Muse Talks About Live Show “Madness” & How Matt Bellamy Might Become An American

I'm sure wanting to spend more time with your family without being constantly jetlagged wouldn't be an awful reason.

It's not like it erases the entirety of someone's past...

I would assume there's probably awkward legal issues, as well.

I remember hearing how even now Matt would still be taken aside at airports and stuff, even though he has a family in the country. Might be one of the reasons.

Once they lose their British accents, I'll be really, really sad. :(

Well Matt's singing voice was never very accented to begin with.

Don't know why people are taking what he said so seriously, I thought it was no more than Matt being Matt. And joking a bit to connect with the American listeners, as he was being interviewed in the US...

Even if he did apply for dual citizenship for sure it would just be for convenience. He strikes me as someone who's proud to be British. I remember a few years ago, he was still with Gaia, that he said he missed England and they were thinking of moving back to the UK. Don't really think he'd wnat to live too long away from the UK, even if he did have the option.

Agree with everything you said! :)

I remember reading of a few different times he was taken aside at airports over being mouthy to airport security and talking about bombs... so it might have more to do with that, really.

I still assume there's legal issues. And if they were to get married, doesn't that change citizenship as well?

Or is that just a myth about mail order brides?

Nope, I'm afraid he's talking very seriously this time. Some people may think "maybe it's because his wife is american..." that is true, but that is not everything.

It has to do with the thread I started yesterday, http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?t=88953

Well, all I can say is that I wish MUSE to stay sober, to be wise (as they have always been), and to be strong, very strong.

And by the way, MUSE if you ever read this, know that it's not too late! It's NEVER too late to do the right thing!

 what the fuck.

Well yeah he's been taken back by security a lot (I remember the story of him being questioned around 2006 and he was a bit nervous cause he had a promo of BH&R with him). The recent ones though showed him a bit more upset over the fact he had a family in the US and everything and was still treated suspiciously.

Didn't Matt live in Italy for a while?

Italian accents are ok, too. *g*

Well Matt's singing voice was never very accented to begin with.

But those interviews!

Very valid points!

The airport thing makes sense, too, as does the whole family thing.

I have to say though, I've been to LA twice, and I thought it was one of the most overrated cities I've been to. I wouldn't ever move there unless I'm forced to. :p

I really don't think he'd lose it anyways. Not for a very long time.

Who rates LA highly anyways? I mean it has some fun things in it but I've never heard anyone speak very highly of the city itself.

Why the freak-out over Matt wanting to apply for a dual citizenship? His gf is American, of course he would do that.

“People with more money tend to not rock out as hard. I’m not sure why that is.”

He does realize he is saying that as a millionaire?

I haven't heard anything about being taken aside in airports in a good while. When has he mentioned that?

He did mention it very recently. I'm not sure which interview, may have been the Telegraph one, but he said that he still had to go through extra security procedures, despite the fact that he now has an American son.

If that's the reality, and not just a bit of bullshit to make the interview more interesting, I don't know whether it would make it more difficult to get American citizenship.

You never know, they may think that becoming a famous musician, hooking up with an American actress and having a baby with her is all part of an underground terrorist plot!

I'm still pretty sure it's not all that hard to get American citizenship.

Matt's talked a big game over the years, but hopefully the FBI doesn't have a file on him over song lyrics and overdramatic interviews.

Then again, my boyfriend has been thrown out of places due to that "Destroy Demonocracy" shirt (which I assume he just finds amusing, since he's not a fan...)

Anyways, if they get married, wouldn't that make him a citizen if he wanted? At least, he'd get his Green Card.

Maybe that's what he was really hinting at. :p

:yesey: I thought he was referring to marriage when he mentioned the whole citizen thing.

I sincerely hope that that is all it means!! I know Matt says things that don't make a lot of sense when he is being interviewed, and I understand it must be annoying to keep being stopped on your way back to your family....but...please don't go the whole hog and become an actual American Citizen!!:(

People that live in LA. :p

Not really. The biggest LA haters come from LA.

I hate West LA which is where Matt lives. East side all the way. :yesey:

I still don't see the big deal about Matt's citizenship.

I don't get it either. I mean, he still has a house in London. It makes sense to get an American citizenship, there's a ton of hassle that goes into all that green card crap. Those things do expire. And for the Anglophiles, Matt can still hold his British citizenship if that keeps you all happy.

Also, I remember Matt mentioned that he was questioned at an airport about his views of the American government. He answered honestly and I think that's what got him in trouble.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is over, either.

There's not much difference if he has citizenship here, or just stays here a lot.

And it would be a lot easier for him, especially if he can't learn to keep his trap shut at the airports.

I don't feel excited about the idea. It's not like we're going to "own" part of Muse, or anything... and it's not like we'd get more gigs or longer sets.

So, I couldn't be assed about it.
