I'm not Matthijs but I have Lumix TZ10 aswell which has a very fast burst mode (10 fps iirc) which is like cheat mode so long as the light is half decent. Problem with that is all you get are low quality jpegs and the zoom is limited. Other than using that i've just done my best on shutter priority with a high ISO when using my compact.

[spoiler=examples using lumix burst mode on speed priority (rather than image priority)]

burst mode? never shot a gig with burst mode on but I see why it'd help. I have ~7GB of space left in my laptop, so I'd have to borrow some of my brother's disk space on his PC if I shot so many photos. :noey: I will try both shutter priority and manual during the opener and see how they compare. Thanks for the info!

p.s. The UK equivalent of my camera is the TZ27.

The TZ10 is a very good camera. It's the person using it who makes a good photo. These were done with the canon powershot SX200 (not using burst) which I think is pretty much the same...

I love the piano pic!

And yeah, as I'm meeting more Musers, I'm realizing it's not that difficult to take sharp looking gig photos. Anyone can take a decent photo, so I feel even more compelled to explore what sets some live gig photos apart from others. The creative power of Muse, I guess. :D

Here are some photos from the San Diego gig, the latter photo was given an Instagram filter:

My biggest gripe with the Fujifilm was that the autofocus and zoom were very slow. Noise was also a problem but nothing I could do about that when shooting in low light, I guess.

Pics taken with my new Lumix camera, cropped but no other editing:

The autofocus was pretty fast! I'm not sure why I didn't try zooming in more.

oh and I was able to just barely sneak in my DSLR at LA 3. :shifty: I'll post a couple of pictures up whenever I decide to go through those RAW files.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how often do crooked horizons example poor photography?

IMHO a crooked horizon can work very rarely. Usually it's just sloppy shooting or going for the cliché diagonal horizon, neither of which makes me think of good photography.

So I'd say 8 or 9 out of ten. I have seen very few crooked horizon photos that I'd actually consider good.

I like the one I left in the spoiler, after some contrast correction etc it could be a very cool photo! In its non-edited state it's a bit bland though.
