Bumpypotato
https://soundcloud.com/theoriginofsymmetry/matts-mystery-riff If this is at all accurate, I quite like the sound of it.
canuckmuser14
Hope it is accurate because that is a pretty nice riff. Well done tabbing..

WeirdF
"Not quite". But I guess that means it's relatively close? I can definitely hear some Royal Blood in that riff that was tabbed out though.
The Resistance
the dude who tabbed it is going to going to do it more accurately. apparently that was a quick attempt.

I have to agree with the royal blood reference, the riff it's self sounds like it would be used in a bridge section to either drop in to a bigger riff or a solo, either is fine by me
Shignett1
Why does everyone assume it's a riff and not a solo? Judging by the speed of the picking, the amount of hammer on notes and even that his hand moves around the fretboard so much, I think that 'riff' is a pretty long way off because I think this is much less structured than a riff (with it looking like a solo and all...) It could be but its just seems unusual place on a guitar to play a solo as it looks to be all on A string plus the beginning part repeats its self. Although it could be a bridge into a solo like I said earlier, which to me seems most likely as it would explain the repetition and then the breakdown at the end while moving down the fretboard. I'm definetly no expert though
FabriPav
Not sure that riff is accurate, sounds a bit too high. edit: and quite slow too. Matt seems to pick way more notes.

Maneachicken
There are definitely more notes and runs in what Matt is playing, as well as the shred-like strumming you can see towards the end of the clip. Optimistic signs though. Very optimistic.
Witz
Could be a solo with the whammy pedal if it's all on the A string Good point still what ever it is, it's fast, it's low down on the fret board and hopefully soaked in distortion
Bumpypotato
Looks more like a kick ass riff than a solo to me. I wouldn't be too surprised if it turned out t be an intro, à la Assassin/Stockholm Syndrome.

Alec Ferris
Yep. Either an intro or a breakdown of some sorts Any of those would be fine with me. As a first taste goes, it's certainly more promising than Unsustainable.

Maneachicken
I don't think we can expect the Treasure Hunts to the scale of BHAR and The Resistance again. What did we get for The 2nd Law other than the teaser, Madness and Survival?

Livs
Hmmmmm Maybe its in a different tuning? Or the timings wrong? As a guitarist myself, looking at Matt playing, and listening to the soundcloud riff, its not right. I think its the timing thats the major issue, and the bends are not as sharp. They look more like vibrato to me
Maneachicken
Just think the sound cloud clip is far too basic for what is going on in the vid.
Bumpypotato
It's the picking that definitely doesn't match.
Witz
Just think the sound cloud clip is far too basic for what is going on in the vid. Yeah that was my thought, what matt's playing looks more shred like. Let's hope it's some mellodic metal type stuff e.g. SS, Assassin etc.
Spectrum IV
https://soundcloud.com/theoriginofsymmetry/matts-mystery-riff 1. No 2. Seems he's playing a melody along these lines which suggests Locrian mode root-root-m3rd-m2nd (x2) root-4th-m5th-root m2nd-4th ... Guitar is not my thing though so feel free to correct me.
