I swear, I searched high and low and I couldn't find one.

I didn't immediately fall in love with Plug In Baby as I found the it to be a bit too loud and shouty but not long after the riff just clicked with me and now I love everything about the song. It's a crowd-pleaser and it's played at practically every gig, and so we arrive at the one of the reasons why I created this thread - to have a place to put this:

Twenty live performances of Plug In Baby synced together, taking you on an epic journey of hairstyles, screaming, guitars, and Matt’s sexy face.

Hi,

Basically I play songs in my head and analyse them, obviously you can't totally isolate the instruments without the master tapes, which are out of reach for most of us.. I like to work out how the music in the song interacts with lyrics and how the instruments are being played. I'm not sure if anyone will be interested in this but if you are, let me know, I would like some help in all this :)

Info from Wikipedia

Released 5 March 2001

Recorded 2001 at Ridge Farm Studios, Surrey

Length 3:39 (Album/Single Version)

3:18 (Radio Edit)

  • Song starts with some guitar screaming
  • then 0.06 the main rift kicks in :)
  • 0:11 Bass and drums
  • 0:30 guitar gives way, leaving vocals vocals, drums and bass
  • 0:58 Bridge, just guitar and drums, before heading to chorus
  • 1:30, Matt hits high notes, then comes in the rift
  • 1:46 back to vocals with the third verse
  • 2:11 back to bridge
  • 2:43 Matt again hits high notes, especially in last three lines
  • 3:05 No more vocals, just guitar, bass and drums
  • 3:24 guitar slowly ends

I think there's a few reasons why this song is so great, imo, it's the bridge. The way the drums increase the tempo of the song, to set up the first line of the chorus. The way the bass interacts with the main rift, then as the guitar stops, and the rhythm section takes over. It's a well constructed song, with a great rift. I think Chris' bass playing is great too :D

Sorry, if this has been posted in the wrong category or if there's another thread. I know there's a thread already for Plug In Baby, but it's just comments of people saying how much they like the song. I would like this thread to discuss what makes the song so great :D
