Hat
Actually my parents got divorced when I was very young. Was mostly just referring to your mom and I. Okay, that was low. I apologise.
Tim59
Your age is not a prime number. One day you will be blonde and tall. You can stop trying to be Sippe until then. Also, for the sake of not wanting an infraction, Isolated System is da shizz.

CarrieB
There is a definate difference between the sounds of a fetal heartbeat heard with a doppler vs. an adult heartbeat heard with a stethascope, so yeah, it follows that it's probably Bing's heartbeat. I don't think it's fucked up to address and artistically portray the idea that things die out, that energy atrophies. Tha'ts the inspiration for the album, no? I like the hearbeat. It's symbolic. It doesn't mean he's sitting there thinking about his son dying. I quite like that there is some attempt at consistent imagery and bits of the initial concept for the title of the album amongst the songs. And Follow Me does NOT suck. Is it exactly like Muse 10 years ago? NO. That's a good thing, imo. Because if a band sticks with the same thing over and over again, it well, atrophies. Let's not pretend there were not signs and hints of pop and electronic effects in previous albums. We all knew Muse had this kind of thing in them...I quite like their version of it frankly. There are at least 5 solid tracks that have heavy live potential. That's nothing to scoff at. I like the way you have put this. I like all of the post. I did say somewhere that I wondered if the heartbeat in Isolated System is supposed to represent the beginning of life as opposed to the end of life which the song ends with. Somehow it puts the end of life into perspective if you remember there was once a beginning. It makes it all the more poignant. If I was Matt I wouldn't have wanted to use my own son's heartbeat in that context for sentimental reasons, because the connotation would be too painful for me. I would probably search the internet for the heartbeat of an unborn baby that was anonymous to me. But then maybe he isn't sentimental like that. I wasn't asking anyone to compare the heartbeats by the way, that would be rather creepy. Just saying we don't know. I think it's better left open. As musemomof4 has said its the symbolic meaning that is important.

Chagi
So I am off topic pretty much all the time, and I haven't gotten so much as a warning. Will this post change that? Because I can't really take not knowing where the limit is.

Seaking
So the sales figures were lower than either TR or BHaR. I know you are going to spin this to being T2L's fault but: I blame TR. And Sippe is right. TR had a very lukewarm public reception, singles didn't chart well (the ones released after the album) and that all translated to a worse showing for T2L. Numbers show that TR sold well, and sales were well sustained. If TR caused a slump that would impact the following album's numbers, it wouldn't have "entered the top 40 UK albums 5 times in total, the top 10 twice." Yes and then people did something retarded like listening to the album. I'm not saying TR didn't sell well.

I wouldn't call five separate entries into the top 40 and two separate entries into the top 10 lukewarm. And the singles seemed to be well received in the US judging from the chart history thread - although Madness did well there too. Would be interesting to see what the US sales are. UD - 49th In US singles chart. Resistance - 38th in US singles chart. I would hardly consider those "well received".

HomesickSubterranean
Had a nice listen of Muse's whole discography this afternoon and I think The 2nd Law is probably equal to TR now. The overall lack of cohesion and one or two meh tracks kinda brought it down. I love Madness, Supremacy, Animals, Panic Station, and Isolated System. I like Save Me, Follow Me, Survival, Unsustainable and I don't really care for Liquid State, Explorers, and Big Freeze. That being said, I'm not sure about LP7. Muse are a bit unpredictable but I can't imagine hearing more Queen/U2 songs down the road.
mjartrod
Aren't sales decreasing anyway these days? I certainly don't buy albums like I used to in the past and I'm sure I'm not the only one.. I'd say it's more relevant that it reached no 1 again (and in many different countries) than the number of copies sold.
Frakkles
In a world where everything is available online for free, why the fuck are you people debating (on the internet no less) what 'good sales figures' are when next to nobody buys rock albums anymore?
