Strangeseas Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 So this article is not just the savage polemical attack might be construed as. But it is. This article was a such shitty troll, not even pitchfork would hire you. 1.8/10 Now go away.
Arcade Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 http://www.sabotagetimes.com/music/i-just-dont-get-muse/ hillarious, some of it true, most of it not. I laughed especially hard at Marxists' comments on the Trio.. he's obviously not impressed.
Strangeseas Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Just a selection of the responses I’ve had from friends/former friends of mine after having the temerity to suggest that maybe Muse are utter fucking garbage. That's fun. I just pick out another sentence. Edit: I got him wrong. Actually this is his opinion.
futurellama Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 His criticisms of the band are very legitimate.
Gareeh Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Music snobs will be all over this thread agreeing with him /sooooo predictable
sade Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 His criticisms of the band are very legitimate. True. Which is weird, because obviously Matt is a very talented song writer, so it's odd that he and Dom and Chris choose to copy other bands' sounds so carefully. The songs as compositions would be as good without the copycat execution. As for lyrics, never gave a fuck about them one way or another. That being said, these types of articles are annoying when they almost always seem to work on the premise that the writer is some special snowflake, who, unlike stupid people around him, realize a fault in something and therefore is a shining beacon of taste. No, Muse as a band is very divisive and has a LOT of people hating them.
Gareeh Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 In fact one of the comments says Muse fans are just people who lack the intelligence to enjoy/listen to Prog Rock. We're dealing with the type of people who spunk over their vintage King Crimson vinyls.
Strangeseas Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Muse: the guitar solos are stock Radiohead: terrifying guitar solos
kueller Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 His criticisms of the band are very legitimate. They are really, but like most of these criticism articles the presentation was horrible.
Strangeseas Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 They are really, but like most of these criticism articles the presentation was horrible. Wut Arguments: 1. Muse are copycats 2, Radiohead is better than Muse 3. Muse are talented, but Radiohead is still better spiced with a huge wank of Radiohead fanboyism 4. He hates stadium rock/ bombastic rock, therefore Muse sucks
Priad-Luabe Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 why write/post an article of hate? if you don't like something then don't listen to it, clearly this guy is craving attention.

He hates stadium rock/ bombastic rock, therefore Muse sucks The idea of Muse taking from their influences but never being as strong was a bit of an issue for TR and maybe some of T2L, at least for me. He never called them direct copycats though. If I want to get into things I thought he did wrong 1. It's so snobbish it hurts, same with the comments agreeing with him entirely 2. Says most things as fact, even the opinions are loaded with implications of the former 3. His taste is the reason Muse are shit 4. Bands need complex chords, odd time signatures, and deep lyrics to be good 5. Muse should be compared to prog-rock

He never called them direct copycats though. He implied that Muse cannot write songs without some extend of copycating If I want to get into things I thought he did wrong 1. No, Muse as a band is very divisive and has a LOT of people hating them. This so hard.
kueller Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I still think it was a elaborate troll See the Radiohead wankfest in the middle... I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. There's a lot of people who act like that.
Strangeseas Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. There's a lot of people who act like that. But that would mean he's just snobbish and stupid 5. Muse should be compared to prog-rock I agree. That was his biggest argumentative fail. Then again I wouldn't call Radiohead classic Prog Rock.
henners Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 It's like a pretentious, wanky A-level essay which would probably get an A* effortlessly. But then, if The Smiths are his favourite band by the sounds of it, there's no wonder his article has an incredibly predictable and smarmy ring to it.
Travis III Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 A legitimate article with some perfectly valid points. I disagree with it overall, of course, but he's entitled to his opinion. No need to get butthurt over it.
ChrisirhC Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Musers calling someone pretentious and uneducated. Well that's rich.
Strangeseas Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Musers calling someone pretentious and uneducated. Well that's rich. Are you the author?
You.Make.Me.Sick Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 No need to get butthurt over it. Tell that to the author. It's his opinion stop ranting about it like it's fact.
Gareeh Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Musers calling someone pretentious and uneducated. Well that's rich. You just branded all Muse fans pretentious and uneducated. Well that's naive.
