(CNN) -- NBC was pummeled by viewers who took to social media after the network cut away early from the closing ceremony of the London Games on Sunday to air a new television show, drawing outrage from those who tuned in for the highly anticipated musical spectacle.

The Twitter-sphere exploded, with "#NBCfail" and "#closingceremonies" trending worldwide, after NBC cut out performances by Ray Davies, Kate Bush, The Who and Muse in favor of a commercial-free airing of "Animal Practice."...

NBC did air The Who's performance at the closing ceremony in late night, following "Animal Practice." But that did little to calm the fury of viewers, many of whom said they tuned in to see the British band Muse perform the official song of the Olympics. "Their broadcast was horrible! No Muse with the OFFICIAL song of the Olympics. Who made that call? @NBC #NBCfail," LoriAndJava wrote on Twitter. NBC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the decision to cut away from the ceremony, though it did appear to warn viewers that it was about to end its Olympic coverage.

NBC's reply to the heavy criticism.

http://superofficialnews.com/nbcs-tape-delay-of-the-olympics-explained-by-a-tv-executive-at-nbc/

“NBC knows what the American people like to watch and what they are mentally unable to handle. We make sure to edit all of our footage so it’s friendly and pleasant for everyone. It’s our way of coming into your living room every night and saying, hello and how are you this evening?”

"But how much more fun is it to have a multinational corporation like NBC make your decisions for you about what you like and what you don’t like and when you are allowed to watch what you want to watch? Our censoring and tape delays have nothing to do with trying to get you to pay the $100 fee, it’s only about love. At NBC, we love you.”

“Here at NBC we take the airing of the Olympics extremely serious. After our cameras record that days events in London, the tape is then hand delivered to another NBC executive 10 miles away in Watford. From there the tape is passed on to the town of Luton. In Luton the tape is given to a runner in Northhampton where they will then make the final 50 mile trek to an NBC broadcasting station in Leicester. There the tape is carefully viewed for authenticity by specialists, edited for happiness and then aired live to Americans for their viewing entertainment."

I'm honestly double-checking the source and the quotes because I have trouble beliving he would actually say that :o

Was coming here to post about it

But you know, anyone doubts that's exactly how they do it..? :p (minus the bit about the tape being taken from one city to another I suppose lol)

NBC, ruining Olympics since forever. To think of the 2002 Winter Olympics and their coverage AND what they did to the men's figure skating final.

Thank feck I have my Eurosport :awesome:

Leave it to the online rage of Musers to get some global attention to the major failure that NBC has been.

Obviously nothing can or will be done now, but the Muse skip story is getting attention in other web articles:

Seriously, f*ck NBC and their terrible Olympics coverage. This was just the big fat cherry on top of an already giant sundae filled with atrocious announcer, even worse interviewers, and 10 hours delayed coverage.

I haven't been able to find a complete version of the Muse performance either, would love if someone has a complete working link.
