Make Predictions Based on Song Titles

This one intrigues me. Its meaning is probably related to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_of_an_expanding_universe (unless Matt decided to write a song for a fridge), and I'm believing we'll somehow get a concept album.

I'm thrilled :awesome:

Me too. This title raised some eyebrows for me that's for sure. There are at least 4 tracks with a strong and obvious theme going on:

Liquid State

Big Freeze

The 2nd Law: Unsustainable

The 2nd Law: Isolated System

Then the album title "The 2nd Law", and the whole Entropy countdown.

I'm thinking something like humanity eventually expanding so far we bring about a premature end to the universe

Please do! I'm on a frenzy haha - I figure now we have titles and interviews will start soon, it's easier to have specific song discussion in their own threads as with past albums

I agree for specific song threads. The only useless one so far is the "Make Predictions Based on Song Titles", as we already have one :chuckle:

Supremacy- Take a Bow-ish song,with a guitar solo.

Madness-A complex one,kinda Stockholm Syndrome-esque.

Panic Station-A groovy song, including a brass riff and has very good drumming

(Prelude

Survival)-We already know

Follow Me-NSC the sequel

Animals-Heavy rock song, long (about a minute) guitar solo in the end.

Explorers-A rock one,not very heavy and has epic bass.

Big Freeze-Starts with an awesome guitar riff, continues to be a song like Explorers and ends with some soft guitar and piano.

Save Me-Guiding Light the sequel

Liquid State-Has the CE live riff.I needn't say anything else.

The 2nd Law-Unsustainable:The trailer music

The 2nd Law-Isolated System:Some kinda invert of the above, starts with dubstep and ends with orchestral stuff.

Supremacy - The first 1:30 of the trailer.

Madness - This title makes me think of MotP, so maybe guitary with distortion and delay.

Panic Station - They said in an interview this was brassy and 80s-like... Hope they lied.

Prelude - Strings, yeah...

Survival - Queen with camp opera.

Follow Me - Piano, lullaby-style track. About Bing.

Animals - Tribal drumming. Tablas like in the photos.

Explorers - Maybe song weird cross of Exo-Politics and Resistance?

Big Freeze - I'm hoping for something epic here. Synths and guitars and noise.

Save Me - Stockholm Syndrome-esque riff with Unnatural Selection-style verses? (Hopefully)

Liquid State - Pretty much all synth and strings. Flow-ey.

The 2nd Law: Unsustainable - Electronic, Dubstep-style track.

The 2nd Law: Isolated System - Fully orchestrated with choir and all.

Supremacy - The first 1:30 of the trailer, growing into the isolated synth arpeggio that we hear in the trailer. (Think: Trailer)

Madness - The arpeggio moves into this Bliss esque track. It's very groovy, almost RnB in the vein of Supermassive. Guitar is heavy, but not overly complex. (Think: Bliss, Uprising, Supermassive Blackhole)

Panic Station - Madness ends and the groove starts to move away. The synth develops to incorperate the brass before dropping out. Disco, Dance beats, Guitar almost feels like it's been taken from Prince's 'Kiss'. (Think: Crying Shame, MotP, Endlessly)

Prelude - Already know. (Think: Collateral Damage)

Survival - Already know. (Think: Queen)

Follow Me - Incorperates soft percussion and rhodes keyboards. Gentle, like a lullaby, but chord progression isn't conventional. Develops to include Acoustic guitar as the percission builds to heavier drumming and an epic ending. (Think: Unintended, Invincible, Hate this and I'll Love you)

Animals - Heavy. Like a mash of the Citizen Erased live riff, Agitated, Ashamed. Electronic Arpeggios, Tribal drumming. Very Dark Piano Bridge that feels like the lovechild of the edit of Assassin and the Space Dementia chorus. (Think: Citizen Erased, Agitated, Ashamed, Space Dementia, Assassin GOB, Unnatural Selection)

Explorers - Chris's Piano song, similar feel to Easily. very uplifting, a song about soul searching and reflecting on your life. Lots of nice Backing vocals. (Think: Easily, Butterflies and Hurricanes, Blackout)

Big Freeze - Dark. Clean Guitar riffs that clang. Synths, Heavy bass, Heavy drumming in choruses, lots of toms. (Think: Showbiz, Hoodoo)

Save Me - Similar to Explorers, but more conventional, straitforward rock, barely any piano. (Think: Resistance, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist)

Liquid State - Returns to musical motifs in an open, echoey but minimalist way, such as the synth riff, strings, but slower and more flowey. Bass is always moving up and down similar to Falling Away with You's chorus. (Think: Falling Away With You, Exogenesis III)

The 2nd Law: Unsustainable - Dubstep-style track. Lots of Fuzz Factory in the chorus. Robot breakdown that suddenly explodes at the end, very heavy electronic feel like a Justice track. (Think: Supermassive Blackhole, Trailer)

The 2nd Law: Isolated System - Massive. The explosive ending builds into this stompy piano riff like the opening bass to Muscle Museum. Strings swell and grow with arpeggios and thumping bass and toms. Keeps like this to the end, which is a gentle piano outro like the ending of Citizen Erased. (Think, Muscle Museum, Cittizen Erased, Ruled by Secrecy)

if this turns out to be true, I'm going to love Animals:)

Ok, here is my (slightly optimistic) prediction

Supremacy: Movie score style strings, possibly the first half of the trailer- even if its not i still feel that its a orchestral track. Possibly a 2 minute long intro with a synth transition into Madness...

Madness: I'm going by what Matt said in the interview with Zane Lowe, that the two lead tracks form the album start mellow and have a crashing climax. So possibly reminiscent of Butterflies and Hurricanes start with a bit of underlying synth similar to the transition from Madness, with a Rage-esque riff and distorted bass with big drums to end. Bit of falsetto thrown in at the end for good measure. Lyrics about the world on the brink of madness after all resources are diminished

Panic Station: I'm thinking a similar bass and drum sound to SMBH, distorted with a good pop rhythm that holds the song together. Bit of brass comes in the chorus with some funky synths placed here and there. Im thinking low vocals like in Survival but breaking out into falsetto for the chorus. Basically 2012's version of SMBH with some crazy brass. Lyrics about people coming to the realisation that there is nowhere left to run now and the resources are all gone, panic has set in

Prelude: Already know

Survival: YES I'M GONNA WIIIIIIIIIIIIN (now looking at the rest of the titles, the lyrics could fit in with the theme, humans fighting to survive in a world where all the resources have been used up)

Follow Me: Soft vocals, lyrical content about dealing with being someone- not just strangers - who look up to him for guidance. Possibly piano/strings.

Animals: Heavy rock song, vocoder backing vocals, I'm thinking synths taking on a lead role alongside the guitar riff. Also, quite tribal drums (tablas, maybe could open and close with the bongos). Lyrics about humanity turning animalistic as the fight to survive kicks in.

Explorers: Softer vocals with clean guitar, possibly Chris' piano song. Lyrics about wanting to explore a planet after the population has killed each other off in a race to survive. (not too sure on this one)

Big Freeze: Heavy rock song, big drum beats, resembling Apocalypse Please, distorted bass, distorted vocals. Not sure about lyrics.

Save Me: Im thinking Take a Bow style synth, with a big riff (possibly the one Dom said was similar to CE live riff) Lyrics basically a plea for help from other planets.

Liquid State: Orchestral piece, possibly the start of the trailer (similar to Supremacy, not too sure)

The 2nd Law: Unsustainable: Im thinking a spoken interlude- perhaps from the trailer?

The 2nd Law: Isolated System: The Dubstep part of the trailer, with a heavy riff and quite big vocals. Big climax of all instruments going crazy, lots of layers, falsetto, craziness, just something epic that you would expect resembling the end of the world. Lyrics. Hmm. Not sure. Something about the world ending soon. :awesome:
