Cyfo_Diaz Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 wow, I love the prep involved in that build, templates etc. I'm more of a cut first and "oh shit thats wrong" later kinda guy. Those buttons are very cool looking. What have you used to hold the sides and top on?
Dominic. Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Looks great! Amazing to see how shiny the mirror is after all that tape Is it jsut me though or in the first picture do the strings not quite align with the pole pieces?

What have you used to hold the sides and top on? i used to be too, the templates take a lot longer, but makes a much neater job. i used Gorilla glue shiiiinnyyyyyyy thanks matey Looks great! Neil. Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 yes quite badly too, i was gutted when i did but ne going back with the mirror correct me if i'm wrong, but couldn't you eventually replace the neck on it so that they would align? I think i'm right in saying that if the pickups/body is correct, replacing the neck is not a major deal by comparison.
IntelligentAl Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Headstock pics? Does it have the auto tune thing?
Phill Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 correct me if i'm wrong, but couldn't you eventually replace the neck on it so that they would align? Would be easier to replace the mirror top and re-route the pick ups a few mm lower.

Does it have the auto tune thing? nope, i've done nothing, still the old laser neck and headstock. i really have no needd for an auto tune thing, and they're not really sold as stock items now Gibson own them Would be easier to replace the mirror top and re-route the pick ups a few mm lower. not a bad idea Phill. i have leftover material...when i got 5mins

musecasters Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 Wouldn't be too bad I reckon, if you can pop the old one off in one piece you could use it as a template for everything but the pickups! well the holes are in the wood behind any way so i can drill a small hole through the back, and let the router do the hard work :-D i can't see it coming off in one bit, might have to router it off :'(
Phill Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 You'd be surprised. I got the tops off mine a couple of times. First one that was really shattered was an absolute nightmare, had to keep bashing a chisel between the wood and mirror and working each section off, but the other one from my XY mirror guitar came off pretty easy. It might have snapped into 2 or 3 pieces down one of the cracks all ready in it.
L32 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 That guitar is amazing. Don't know if anyone asked this before, which program do you use for the design? Waiting to see the cover with your guitars.

Waiting to see the cover with your guitars. its a signwriting program called Flexi expert, only cus its what i use at work You'd be surprised. I got the tops off mine a couple of times. Phill Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Haha yeah chambering is a good call. If you're worried about contact for the mirror, route a loads of grid lines so there's still plenty to glue to.
