"This is what happens when you put middle-aged upper-middle class men in charge."

"The blandness is almost grating"

"At this point I find it a little bit hard to believe that Muse used to be my favorite band. They truly can't go lower than this. Right?"

"Jesus fuck they try so hard to make their music dramatic yet have no idea how to convey emotion, and those chanting choir singers absolutely killed it holy fuck"

"Worst lyrics I've heard in a song ever. However it's the best thing Muse have wrote in a while imo. Also this song is just an olympics song, it's not the lead single from the new album and there is only one dubstep song on the album. The lead single is very stripped back so should sound nothing like this"

"Queen v0.1

Whether you like Queen or not, they were good at what they did. This is a disgrace."

"I'm a Muse fan and this is shit. I want my riffs back."

"Over the top wankery, just like everything after BH&R"

And my personal favourite

"I hope Chris leaves and forms another band"

So yeah...it's not really positive

I've heard more positive feedback the negative.

Emotions were so huge that now I feel like I'm going to sleep on the keyboard...

I love the way they make me feel. I love the way they surprised me. I loved it so much. First I was like awwwwwww, it reminds me Soaked a bit, then (at 0.59)... GOD, I was dead. Seriolusly! A bit like Queen. And then Matt's voice - at the first time it sounds so new! God, how I've missed that! :D

I couldn't imagine better single from them. It fits Olympics so much!

It was way above my expectations.

Race, life's a race

And I'm gonna win

Yes, I'm gonna win

And I'll light the fuse

And I'll never lose

And I choose to survive

Whatever it takes

You won't pull ahead

I'll pick up the pace

And I'll reveal my strength

To the whole human race

Yes, I am prepared

To stay alive

And I won't forgive

The vengeance is mine

And I won't give in

'Cause I choose to strive

That I'm gonna wiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!

Race, it's a race

And I'm gonna win

Yes, I'm gonna win

And I'll light the fuse

And I'll never lose

And I choose to survive

Whatever it takes

You won't pull ahead

'Cause I'll pick up the pace

And reveal my strength

To the whole human race

Yes, I am prepared

Yes, I'm gonna wiiiiiiiiin!

Fight, fight, fight

Yes, I'm gonna wiiiiiiiiiiiiin!

I wonder if someone gave this to Matt in '04 and told him this was the future of his lyrical abilities he would have smacked that guitar into his face a little harder. Repeatedly.

Outside of here, I honestly haven't heard ANY. But i've been looking at sites that aren't hardcore fans or ott fangirls, people that think Muse are okay or just know of them. I've seen a couple "It was better than I expected, but it's still crap..." comments.

Lots of people saying Matt is a retard who should drop all the goofy Queen shit, and a couple of people saying Chris should go solo  No mention of Dom unfortunately...

there's an interview from resistance, i think it was with zane, where "throwing in the kitchen sink" was used to describe the album. yeah...that's why it's a mess...cause it is all over the place.

matt doesn't know what a choir should be used for, much less how to write for one. the backing vocals were horrendous full stop. but then, you've probably read my tweets

the strings continued to be harsh and slurring and every musical layer to that track is treated like it's a solo.

you can do it that way, but it doesn't mean you should. the result is a jumbled mass of noise. it isn't tonally tight. one thing doesn't support the other outside the bass and the drums. even the piano is off.

the lyrics are rubbish, but then that's totally normal so i won't bother with them.

it sounds like usoe, the hah hah hah nonsense is laughable.

the only good bits are when there are no vocals at all.

and i'm not trying to be mean. but there it is.

Amen. The kitchen sink analogy really works well. The Resistance definately was a mess sonically. (Wow, never typed that word before). This new stuff sounds better but the choir sounds a bit out of place. Matt is not a composer. No matter how much he wishes.
