Gigs and Tours shake up

As the new Muse tour has been announced, we shall be making a few changes to how the Gigs and Tours forum is organised on the board.

Gigs and Tours forum will be splits into two new forums. It might sound a bit drastic but we think it'll be the best way to organise all the threads people want to have in an easy manner. One forum will be just for individual gig dates with one thread per gig, and the discussion here will focus only on each gig itself where attendees can share their photos with others, arrange meetups, and so on, and the names for these threads will be standardised so they can be sorted by date and are easily searchable. We've already started making the threads with straight forward name newest tour dates.

The other forum will be for more general threads, eg. discussing setlists for the tour, threads of speculative gigs and rumours (these will be moved to the other forum when confirmed), running commentaries on performances (don't worry, sexy plane isn't going anywhere), MuseBay, and so on. Pretty much anything goes as long as it's discussing Muse live (but not muselive).

There won't be any changes in what can and can't be discussed, but the reorganisation will help keep different kinds of content and discussions in a more accessible format. These changes have been discussed for a long time by the staff based on the feedback we received during the last tour and from the survey we did last year, and this was the best solution we could find, but we welcome any additional feedback from board before the changes are made, including names for the new forums (all we have so far is "Gigs" and "Tours"...) At the moment Bootlegs will remain unchanged.

Where's the discussion if you seperate the opposing sides?

The point is to take the general stage/performance/setlist beef out of gig threads and contain it in a more purpose-built discussion area.

It just stops, with all due respect, the likes of you and me going mental in a thread for a gig that has just happened that we didn't attend and perhaps tarnishing the memory for people who were actually there.

The old NIN forum used the very same model and it worked really well. People would only really post in the threads of the gigs they went to and otherwise confined their views to the gigs and tours discussion area.

I'm probably going to do this this evening to give us some time to get the threads into the right forum, will stick with the names "Gigs" and "Tours". Kinda boring, so some suggestions would be great.

Sensible idea :) - though at one point on the board, the object seemed to be to reduce the number of forums rather than increase them?

Standard thread headings seem boring but do make threads easier to find.

Would it be too much of a job for mods to update the first post in each thread with useful info/FAQs etc as it becomes available? That would be helpful to many people I would think :)

Yeah streamlining the forums would be nice but when we have ever growing numbers of members with a wider range of conversations happening we need to accommodate it. One day if solo projects happen we might need like a separate Matt/Dom/Chris forum or something, as an example.

I was thinking of doing that. At least, adding a link to the musewiki and muse.mu pages for each gig, and links to the venue page which normally has all the travel and T&C stuff :)

Don't worry.

There's likely going to be some setlist groaning in threads by people who went to the shows and got bog standard/short set lists.

Even with how the band played at SF Outside Lands and of course Reading/Leeds, I still get a bitter memory every time I think about Sacramento on September 28th, 2010. That was honestly the WORST Muse gig I've ever been to.
