seanmincham
I think the guitar sampling in the track is it's redeeming feature, despite being a genre that has been done to absolute death over the past year it still feels distinctly Muse-esque. MattGuitar
Don't think that Muse is trying to enter dubstep, but rather try to apply some of it to their music. Muse usually experiments with something new in their music and it usually comes out fine. Don't think that they would purposely put out something poorly done. Tofu
Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing how they play it live. I don't care if Muse are being revolutionary or not. I like them because I like their music, simple as… are they behind? Maybe, but we've only heard 30 seconds of the dubstep part. It's hard to judge an entire song based on that. Dee3Dee
I still say that the dubstep is just the middle section of a heavy rock song.
Riveon
I could be wrong but didn't they say there was a RATM + dubstep sounding song? In which case I'd say you'd be right.

CarrieB
I still say that the dubstep is just the middle section of a heavy rock song. Perfectly possible. I think it's only going to be a small section. They've put it out now for shock value I think.
Bumpypotato
Most likely just an awesome breakdown section. I've said it a few times already, but it's not really even dubstep.
mobytoss
I've been gagging for Muse to replicate electronic music through heavily processed guitar for the last 2 albums and I'm glad to see them finally doing it in the dubstep section!

The second law trailer (dubstep part) sounds like RATM+Dubstep to me.

hyper_chondriac_muser
A musical style isn't a fad simply because it existed before Muse used it. I honestly think that's pretty much the extent of the dubstep influence or element on this album. I doubt it'll be more than this little clip, either as an interlude, outro or mid-filler. They included it in the trailer to catch us off guard and totally by surprise, which worked (definitely for me, anyway). Who can honestly say they were expecting that? I'm even questioning whether it will appear on the album, however nonsensical that sounds, because it's almost TOO out there, lol. They have wound us up before, so gotta take their antics with a pinch of salt, hehe.
Hat
because it's almost TOO out there, lol. SMBH was way more out there
hyper_chondriac_muser
SMBH was way more out there At the time, SMBH was ridiculous, but the fact that it started with a guitar riff - for me - saved it from veering too far out of the 'rock' genre. This is Muse's take on dubstep. I never thought I'd ever be writing that sentence!
Hat
It isn't very close to dubstep though, and it's still very much Muse.
hyper_chondriac_muser
It isn't very close to dubstep though, and it's still very much Muse. My exposure to dubstep is limited (and for a reason), but that's the first thing that came to mind when I heard it kick in. It's too similar to not be an influence. It is, however, still somehow Musey, which I like; they've managed to produce something that shouldn't suit them and make it work well.

Not too different, no, but mixing it all together with the wub-wubs, robo-voice etc takes it to a different level for Muse. Surely you can't honestly, hand-on-heart say you heard it for the first time and thought it wasn't in any way surprising. For the record, I've given one Skrillex track a listen... it terrified me .
