Origin Of Symmetry - Micro Cuts to replace Hyper Music (as much as I like Hyper Music I just think Micro Cuts is better single material).

Black Holes - City Of Delusion or Assassin to replace Invincible

The Resistance - MK Ultra EP to replace the Exogenesis EP, I Belong To You to replace Undisclosed Desires

Showbiz and Absolution were perfect.

:stunned:

I just think it stood out more on the album than Hyper Music, plus it's always been a song I would've loved to see a video for. There's nothing wrong with Hyper Music being a single per se, I just think Micro Cuts would've been better and maybe more well suited.

What do you mean when you say well suited?

Because it would certainly be an awful single. Standing out =/= Being a good choice for a single. :p

this may sound weird, but i kinda like having only 'commercial' songs commercialized :)

i would've puked if i saw citizen erased on some mtv/viva/vh1 channel between kanye west and katy perry videos. TiRO, starlight, SMBH, invincible, uprising, UD etc., those are the songs that have a certain "single" aura (lets face it, primary objective of singles is to draw people to the band and are mostly picked out for being most mainstream and radio friendly).

and then once you notice a band and dig beneath the surface, you discover gems like showbiz, space dementia, microcuts, citizen erased, megalomania, blackout, ruled by secrecy, assassin, city of delusion, hoodoo, mk ultra, exogenesis etc etc

not sure if this makes any sense to anyone else, but oh well.

A bit elitist, but still one of the most sensible posts in this thread.

Micro Cuts, Space Dementia, Megalomania etc would have been shit singles, and no one in this thread would probably have heard of Muse.

I'd go as far as to say even the first four albums had a good selection of singles. For The Resistance if you switched Undisclosed Desires with MK Ultra I'd think that was fair.

If you mean for the actual core group of fans then yes.

From a more business standpoint I think they made the best choice in having UD as a single.

With singles bands normally pick their more accessible songs to gain more fans and listeners. It's not just putting your best songs in single format (although it doesn't mean the best songs can't be singles, B&H is an example).

Long complex songs like Citizen Erased wouldn't work too well. They're just not very appealing to most people, at least until they start checking out more of the band and find those gems.

tl;dr, what weedkill said
