Zolic Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I'm bored so here's another of those silly lists, what's your top five Muse live-intros? I think mine are: 1. What's He Building? --> Dead Star or New Born 2. Space Odyssey --> Map of The Problematique 3. Classical Piece (don't know the name) --> Intro + Apocalypse Please 4. We Are The Universe --> Uprising 5. Dance of the Knights --> Knights of Cydonia The Classical Piece-->AP is the one at the Tokyo Bay NK Hall 2004-gig. (the one which says Rozy) I didn't take Dracula Mountain since it's actually them playing, although it was great
polandspring Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 What is this space odyssey intro? I can't say I've heard it, is there a link anywhere?

Jobby Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 They've barely had enough intros to make a top five list 1. What's He Building - Such a tension builder 2. We Are The Universe - Love the little robotic voice 3. Bellamy running around with a camera (Earls Court) 4. Space Odyssey - Cool effects with the satellites but it goes on a bit too long for my liking 5. Dance Of The Knights - Meh, didn't really work imo.
Dominic. Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I was never really keen on Dance of the Knights either
Clunge Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Intro + Apocalypse Please and Dear Star. I can think of nothing better than for the lights to go down and then Matt's guitar kicks in alone playing the D-chord build-up for the Dead Star riff (i.e. Earls Court 2004, V Fest 2008, etc). The longer that chord is held and strummed, the better.
kueller Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Have they ever actually used Dead Star as a sole opening?
Bs Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 The longer that chord is held and strummed, the better. Me likey. Sometimes something simple can build the tension so much. I remember seeing Feeder years back, and the little intro riff was played really quietly and palm muted for what felt like a good couple of minutes just getting everyone even more excited until the song finally kicked in. Love a bit of stuff like that. Edit - I was talking about Just A Day and for some reason forgot to include the song title! Muse have so many good song intros like that though to be honest. I remember at Wembley in 2010, Hysteria finished, and while the feedback was still ringing out, from the very first DUM DUM of the drums, I almost wet myself, instantly recognising them from Citizen Erased. Dead Star's intro chord is kind of similar to that for me.
MartinSM Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 One of the Dead Cuts performances started with Matt just playing the first chord and slowly struming faster and faster into the song, and it worked so well. That Wembley 2010 Hysteria>CE transition was superb. 1. What's He Building 2. We Are The Universe 3. Riot/Protestors March 4. Space Odyssey 5. Earl's Court intro
Anxyous Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Space Odyssey is definitely my favourite It's Ligeti's Requiem; Kubrick just used the music for the Odyssey...
Clunge Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Have they ever actually used Dead Star as a sole opening? Late 01 they did and a few times in South America 08.
Dominic. Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 It's Ligeti's Requiem; Kubrick just used the music for the Odyssey... I'm just quoting what's been said on the video and earlier in the thread! I haven't actually seen Space Odyssey in yonks and probably can barely remember it since I was too young. Which kinda makes me want to watch it now...

Do watch it.
FingerFud Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Falsetto Intro -> Bliss ( Hullabaloo DVD) Man With Harmonica -> KoC ( V 2008) What's He Building In There? -> Dead star/ New Born Kaos Pad solo -> Supermassive Black Hole ( TITP 2010 ) Manson Delorean double neck intro at the start of Uprising ( Wembley 2010 ) These are not in order but they are my favorites so far.
Dominic. Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Falsetto Intro -> Bliss ( Hullabaloo DVD) Manson Delorean double neck intro at the start of Uprising ( Wembley 2010 ) ?
kueller Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 We Are The Universe What's He Building In There Space Odyssey Stadium Sirens/Protesters No Intro
Jobby Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Falsetto Intro -> Bliss ( Hullabaloo DVD) Manson Delorean double neck intro at the start of Uprising ( Wembley 2010 ) I think I remember someone saying something before about a Bliss falsetto intro on Hullabaloo and I still have no idea what they or you are on about. Also, it's not a Delorean. I didn't realise this meant intros to songs as well so here's a revised list: 1 - What's He Building 2 - Citizen Erased drums 3 - Dead Star chord 4 - Jimi jam 5 - Odd little thing (5:34) I know it's used as an outro in this case but it was used as an intro as well.
FingerFud Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Well, the Falsetto intro is the wee sort of guitar riff that Matt always plays at the start of Bliss before the big drop where the bass and the drums come in. The Hullabaloo one is my favorite out of every single live version of Bliss they played since OoS came out. And isn't that what Matt calls his metallic silver Manson??

And this is the Delorean Wembley 2010 was this, and AFAIK there was no double neck intro, just the riot protest

And what i meant is the very start of Uprising where Matt uses the bottleneck to create the sounds that they keyboard makes at the start of the song. I just couldn't remember what that was called.

Why do you call it the falsetto intro if it's played on guitar then? Mind you, I have seen it called the 'Hyper Chondriac Music intro' before which is equally

FabriPav Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 5 - Odd little thing (5:34) I know it's used as an outro in this case but it was used as an intro as well. That's the Vuilstamen riff [YT]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuTn321ETUY[/YT] Here is played as an intro to Stockholm, just after the Micro Cuts outro (used as an intro too, ) From Musewiki: Micro Cuts outro + Vuilstamen Riff + Stockholm Syndrome + Negative Creep riff + School riff + Endless Nameless riff It works well

And what i meant is the very start of Uprising where Matt uses the bottleneck to create the sounds that they keyboard makes at the start of the song. I just couldn't remember what that was called. He's just using his finger on the top neck which is fretless actually. No use of a guitar slide needed. Watch some of the live videos of Resistance for a better idea where he does the same thing but on both necks at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSZnVyp-vj0 Skip to about 1.34 and you'll see what I mean... Or, about 1.43 onwards here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8KSwazSzuE
