jefmartin
I've seen the band in Anaheim in 2010. Good act and all but smashing a guitar is quite lame and a weak expression of testosterone. The crowd numbered in the thousands and I doubt that there was one man there with any stones or testosterone whatsoever. Pathetic

Pathetic Um, lots of bands "smash" their gear, Muse just happen to be one of them and happen to be damn good at it. Lots of people like it because it brings energy and emotion to the gig. Not to mention Pete Townshend used to think of it as auto destructive art (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). Btw during the 2010 gig in Anaheim Bellamy just threw the guitar. It didnt break and he used it two days later. (Once again correct me if I'm wrong but I'm quite sure I'm not).

Jobby
Sometimes it's just a genuine expel of emotion. Sometimes people can just get really into the music and do crazy things. I don't understand why people have a problem with it. "Oh it's wasted money", "Other people could put better use to it". Bollocks, they earned the money, they can do what they want with their equipment. Also it's very rare the equipment is broken beyond repair anymore. Spin26
The Glitterati was thrown god-knows-how-many times, and it didn't meet its demise till it got dragged off a tower by a curtain
sebby aka pup
He hasn't purposely broken a guitar in years. Yes he has. Check out Stockholm Syndrome in Perth last year. If that's not Bellamy purposely trying to break a guitar, then I don't know what is

kueller
lol Santa, Santa 2.0's neck Trasher All in the past year. The neck was it. He never broke Santa, it was an accident. He throws his guitars a lot, but I don't see him trying to break them. Matt definitely can smash a guitar.

Matt definitely can smash a guitar. He has broken the original Santa a couple of times. Whether it's on purpose or not Personally I don't think he's trying to break them, but then he doesn't really care if they do or not

What I was saying is that you won't see him trash a guitar like on Hullabaloo or something. He just doesn't care enough to at least toss them around. dan.
Throwing one everywhere doesn't mean 'purposely break'. He does it a lot knowing that 99% of the time it'll be fine.

Will_
Whilst it gives me a slightly hollow feeling inside to see guitars like that get thrown around, it does really add to the energy of a gig...
MartinSM
I don't care as long as the guitar lives. It adds energy and power to the gig, even when it's overly planned and not just Matt in the heat of the moment. The Manson's are pretty tough anyway considering what Glitterati lasted through. Went through the drumkit tons of times with barely a mark, smashed into the pyramid stage roof several times, only out for a week or two at most...then gets killed by a bit of cloth. batterypoweredbaby
This is why he needs a rubber guitar/one with a built in trampoline. It can bounce back and smack him in the face as punishment for trying to smash it.

Dominic.
A rubber guitar would not work very well because unliked woods typically used for building guitars such as Mahogany, Ash, Alder, rubber does not possess very good tonal qualities that the aforementioned do. For example, Alder produces a broad spectrum of tones while Mahogany produces a more beefy low mids sound. Another reason is because the neck needs a lot of support and strength due to the tension placed upon it from the strings that rubber simply would not provide, whereas standard guitar necks use a hardwood such as maple with a metal truss rod that is used to strengthen and correct any bow in the neck

Hyper
The Guiness Book of Records has Matt's name as someone who broke the most guitars in one year. Those guitars were cheap. I think now he throws a guitar when he is not very pleased with something, like if something is not working properly. In Kiev once he practically threw the broken amp into the crowd.
