Changes AKA How the new staff team are going to spoil your fun

Like some sort of team of people who have extra power, and who know what they're doing, and can moderate the rest of them musers...!

No, that's too mainstream. I mean like an alternative team who can sort out the cool kids from the squares.

that's because most of them are fangirly people who can't take a joke. and i'm a MMuser.

I disagree. I don't consider myself "fangirly" and I found it offensive. I thought it was really quite rude to post that sort of thread on Muse's own forum. How do you think the band would have felt if they'd seen it? How would that make you feel if it were about you? What if, for example a group of people on the forum started a thread against a certain poster saying they should leave and never post anything again- how do you think that would be tolerated by the mods?

Yeah it's a fine line really. Can't censor people who genuinely don't like something the band has done, but threads like that would be provocative enough on another band's Other Bands forum, let alone Muse's.

It's a good thing that we're all talking about this now in a constructive way. It'll help us all understand each other better and hopefully people will feel less like they have to stay in their safe little corner and can enjoy the board as a whole.

:yesey:

To be honest, I thought this thread would be full of mud slinging, with (admittedly) two groups blaming the other. I'm glad it's been civil and that it shows both sides are to blame.

Please cut down on the rudeness.

Banter has such a bad rep. Seriously, post in there and be persistant...loads of lovely boardies post in that section. Eventually someone will reply. :yesey:

I agree. Most of it is just stereotypes. But it is up to current members of the entire message board, not just Banter, to try and make the forum a bit more friendly just by engaging other random people in conversation. It is a discussion board after all.

To me the perception has been this:

Banter - The cool kids club (perceived as elitist by MM)

Main Muse - n00bs (perceived as "Muse can do no wrong" asskissers by Non-Muse)

That is also true.

I think the problem is that you are right, in the sense that those types of people do exist and do post. However, you can't let one rotten apple or two be the judge for the contents of the whole tree.

Please cut down on the rudeness.

Whoa! What's with the anger?

I don't think that post was rude. Rather, it was a joke that crossed a line.

Not all MMers are fangirly, just like not all Banterers are assholes. People do know this. However, it doesn't help when some of the more active posters in those sections tend to act out those stereotypes. Like I said before, one bad apple doesn't mean all the apples are bad.

I have to wonder, is there anyway to have an "airing of grievances" sort of thing on here without it becoming personal? I know that there are some posters who need to be called on their shit.

Ok, here is my input. I was a regular here for a while. But to be quite honest, after the Australia leg of TR, I didn't come back for a long time. It's common knowledge that Muse had a "typical" set list, and then varied it up in Australia. But what made me stop coming here was when a few people who mainly post in Banter (*I am not generalizing, it's just a fact*) came over to Main, and especially to a particular gig's thread, and completely bashed the band, bashed anyone who liked the band, and spewed some of the most disturbing vitiriol I had ever seen. Now, I realize that emotions were running high, but it disgusted me.

Now, I'm not saying that everyone has to throw roses at Muse and declare that they have scentless feces, but I do feel that there needs to be a certain amount of respect given to them ON THEIR OWN FORUM. A logical and reasonable discussion about their music and the direction of the next album, tour, etc. should be highly encouraged. But even those people who have been referenced in the previous comments about loving OoS but not liking anything since, can have some common courtesy for the band and the fans that still like the band.

+1!

I left the boards and only recently returned to keep updated on interviews and news about their new album :p

I'm not angry. That was my stern face ;). I found it rude and so did another member. He was trying to provoke others, so I asked him to stop.

As a regular board member, I would directly address the person in the most civil way possible at the time it happened. No use dragging up old issues all at once. If that doesn't work, then ask a mod for assistance. I have found threads on other boards where all those grievances are done in public and it just intensifies the cliques even more.

The erosion of any barrier or animosity between any two parts of the board is most definitely our number one priority. We want people who regularly post in the Muse parts of the messageboard to feel welcome posting in the off topic parts and possibly we want people who only post in off topic sections to feel that the Muse parts can still provide some interesting discussions.

It may be that this is already the case, of course...

pfff good luck there. been trying that for the last 5 bastard years

If you could make actual Muse fans feel more welcome and that they aren't in some sort of minority for still loving Muse, that would be a step in the right direction. So many people have been scared off by the negativity towards the band that we're supposedly all here to appreciate.

"you could make"

tall order. do you have any suggestions as to how to make anybody feel what you think they should feel? :) no really...this is an honest question

the MM v. Banter thing is so rediculous in my opinion. i don't go to banter, but most of my friends that i've made here post there, while i post in MM (when i do post anymore) and there's no feeling of persecution.

the folks in banter go to gigs too...and they have opinions about the gigs just like anyone else.

and if people from MM want to post in banter all they have to do is introduce themselves and dive in.

easy peasy :yesey:

just leave the :srsb33f: behind

We can post our ideas in here, correct?

In that case, I have a couple of ideas that might not go down well:

#1) In "Other Muse Topics", get rid of the PMT, PDT and PCT. Just have one large "Sexy Pictures of Muse" (title can be worked on) thread. Do we really need three temples when there can be one cathedral?

niall, i read your response to this...and as a former pct regular i do have some suggestions. like with the international thread, it might be a good idea to standardize the titles. when the posts hit 10k the mod for that section could take poll suggestions, but as it is now those threads are still a bit confusing to new users or those just looking for pictures. (does still seem a bit pervy :eyebrows: not that pervy's a bad thing ;) )

also...as with the muse app, which has a section just for gig pictures...could we maybe have a thread just for photos/videos of recent gigs? as it is now, posting pics in the gig thread, they get lost really quickly in the pages of discussion going on.

:)

oh and thank you! (edited for politeness  )

I imagine they wouldn't give a shit. At worst, they'd find it funny. I don't think they take themselves as seriously as a lot of people want them to.

Didn't necessarily mean the band, but their management perhaps or both. They might have some interest in this place.

pssst...

it was a joke.

or are those not allowed

i think the mods just want to do a good job, right? a good site is something to be proud of :yesey:

Yeah, I know you're joking :p but I'd be interested in a serious answer if anyone 'in the know' can tell me. I'm just curious. I know it might be nothing to do with anyone senior to the admins.

Actually, didn't Chris mention in an interview or somewhere that he thought a lot of people who post on the boards clearly don't like the band and the board is full of whingers?!

Yeah, I think he did. Why wouldn't they have a look on here from time to time and Chris's kids are probably old enough to look on here too, which is why it's especially important that all the 'speculative' talk about their private lives is not allowed and the board has done an excellent job of that I reckon.

I agree that standardizing titles for the pornogenic threads is probably a good idea. New people have NO clue what PMT means, and sometimes they're here for ages before they ever ask. Some of the titles are perhaps a bit too "inside jokey".

Also, there will probably be some reorganizing of some of the forums in Main Muse that will allow for gig pictures and videos to be more readily accessible and more consolidated.
