TheMuseSmurf
Just spotted this, watching Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince on TV, at the part where Hogwarts mourn the death of Dumbledore... Listen to the music that plays at this point! Tell me, what does it sound like??

TheMuseSmurf
At 5 mins 28, a string based soundtrack starts playing, listen to the chord progression, it sounds like a certain Muse song, and you could certainly imagine it kicking in at some point! Furygirl
Oh I see. Yeah, it does sound like Resistance a bit.
Creamy_Peaches
Sounds like someone was watching Sky Family... And yes I do see the resemblance

It means 'You know when you're addicted to Muse', they've written it in the wrong thread.
CarrieB
It's maybe a piece of classical music that inspired Matt? I love that part of Resistance, it's beautiful and very sad, but yes, in listening to this, I wanted it to kick in!

I love that part of Resistance, it's beautiful and very sad, but yes, in listening to this, I wanted it to kick in! Yeah, Matt was inspired by the soundtrack to "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". I'm sure that in the 2 months between the release of the film and The Resistance, Matt had the soundtrack playing on repeat to give him ideas. Pistol Star
It does sound very similar to Resistance, but, to me, it also sounds similar to Pachelbel's Canon with only one line repeating.
Lott_
I think it sounds like the guitar solo before the piano part in Citizen Erased
drawakangaroo
I think it sounds like the guitar solo before the piano part in Citizen Erased Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw that part the first time I watched the movie.
Lott_
Yeah, that's what I thought when I saw that part the first time I watched the movie. I actually started to sing (in myself) the lyrics: "And tonight. Please stop asking me to descibe"

I love that part of Resistance, it's beautiful and very sad, but yes, in listening to this, I wanted it to kick in! Well, all three of these melodies (including the HP one) are based on the Am scale, so there are bound to be similarities. Same as the PIB riff is based on the Bm scale, so there is a section in Bach's Toccata + Fugue in Dm that sounds like it.

I meant was that the piece in Harry Potter could have been taken from a classical piece of music that Matt had also listened to.
musedan
I noticed this in deathly hallows part 2 today, I think they used the same music in one of the scenes. I mentioned it to my girlfriend, she didn't seem to see the resemblance. It's just a very similar chord progression.
dontask
Nobody mentioned the random mention of Teignmouth at the end of Deathly Hallows one? Apparently Shell Cottage is near there.

Yeah, when I went to watch part 1 with some non-muser friends, when Ron said Teignmouth, I exclaimed "Ooh, Teignmouth!" and subsequently recieved many confused looks from friends and strangers alike. Maybe it was a bit loud. And Yes, I've recognised the chord progressions in other HP films too.
