Would You Like To See Muse Record New Versions Of Old Songs?

For some reason this idea came into my head recently. Not necessarily as something I'd want, but as something that I was curious if anyone else would. Perhaps I'm thinking of Placebo's Redux edition of Battle For The Sun.

Anyhow, love it or hate it, Muse have obviously changed quite a bit since their early days, and although it'll probably never happen, I wondered if anyone would be interested in hearing new versions of old material, whether it be back from their pre-Showbiz days, even through to something from say, Absolution.

If so, what would you most like to hear, and how do you imagine it would sound in a re-recording?

I don't think it would necessarily happen, but it would be interesting to hear what it would sound like.

I'd like to hear what it would actually sound like. I wrote below what I think it'd sound like with certain songs if they were re-recorded.

If they were from Showbiz:

-The Piano in Cave would sound more refined and Matt would keep the notes longer.

-The Bass in Muscle Museum could sound a bit more distorted in the intro.

-Nishe would have the piano in it.

-Sunburn would sounds more refined, especially vocally. The drumming would be more cleaner.

If they were from OoS:

-The piano intro to New Born would sound more like the HAARP intro.

-Bliss could have a guitar intro (like it is live) segueing into synths like the original.

-Plug in Baby would sound more refined, and could have the live outro it had on the most recent tour.

-Citizen Erased would have more riffing in it, and have the "dum-dum" intro, with some quiet sounds in the background.

-Screenager would be piano.

-Feeling Good - Cheesier.

If they were from Abso, not much would really change to be honest.

Maybe...maybe just as live reworkings though. It's so not Muse though. They're constantly progressing and changing, and I'd rather see some innovative new music, at least in the context of Muse.

It's an interesting idea though. I would certainly like to hear a modern take on their older stuff.

They usually leave something for live shows (Osaka Jam, riffs in Uprising, guitar intro and interlude in Bliss) and don't want to have this gems on albums so I don't see them doing it. It's simply something only for people which see them live.

NO!

That said, IF (and this is a big IF) they were to completely re-record an acoustic version of an album, I'd listen to it.

Alanis Morissette did an acoustic recording of Jagged Little Pill to commemorate the 10th anniversary of that album. IF Muse did something similar with Origin Of Symmetry or Absolution, it might be cool.

But why not give us a studio version of Osaka Jam, Helsinki Jam, We Are The Universe etc after they stop playing them? I just think it's silly to just drop them completely with the only recognition of them on youtube and setlist fm...

At least a fan made a pretty perfect version of We are the Universe.

I would actually love to hear an acoustic version of Citizen Erased, or if they mellowed it down kinda like they did with Hyper Music and Hyper Chondriac Music :)

Doubt it will ever happen though but it would be interesting to hear.

Why they had to decide what to put on Absolution - TSP or Fury? The best option was to put both. Why leave Glorious and make BHaR 11-tracks, much shorter than Absolution. There are a lot of decisions where artist feel urge to do something in a specific way. It's simple that fans want as much material from them as they can, but it's great that Muse don't let fans decide about too much and know where is a border of interaction. It makes the band more addictive and interesting.

Well they put both in the Japanese releases :chuckle: And they were both still released at some point, unlike these lost treasures! A border of interaction? I don't get it :erm: So you're telling me because they left songs of albums and don't release some things it makes them addictive and interesting? :chuckle: Ok.

According to some articles, they have said they'd go for more intimate/smaller gigs for the next tour, so I think it would be interesting to hear those acoustic versions live and they would fit into the intimate show. Although I don't believe what they say about the new album until I hear any proof from it.
