Got notified of this thanks to muselive's RT.

Muse are one of the artists nominated for another Q award. Cannot paste the original link for Muse page, but the general info is here:

As we’ve already mentioned quite a lot, the year 2011 marks Q’s 25th birthday. To celebrate, Q – in association with our good friends at BlackBerry® – is launching a nationwide vote to determine The Greatest Act Of The Last 25 Years. The winner will be announced at the Q Awards on 24 October.

A clichéd response for a Muse fan perhaps, but I think Radiohead are more worthy winners of this one. I hope Oasis get nowhere near it and Nirvana are in there somewhere.

Arcade Fire, Damon Albarn, Jack White are all worthy too imo.

They're probably gonna win cos of all us lovely hardcore fans. :p:LOL:

Nah, don't think so. There's some way more obsessive fans around (see result of last NME poll for greatest singer). I'm voting Muse number 1 though, no competition imo.

LOL, no that's only during the NME Sexiest Male award when all of the creepy PMTers vote, when it comes to real awards muse fans are nowhere near hardcore....tsk tsk tsk

Voting for Muse though! :D

I added Depeche Mode as #2. Why doesn't anyone ever include them in any polls!? Sadface. :$

Because DM have existed for over 30 years. This is the bands of the last 25 years.

My personal TOP 5 is:

Radiohead

Nirvana

The Strokes

The Prodigy

Damon Albarn

...for me, these are the artists of the last 25 years that changed the course of modern music

and I added RATM there...wondering why they arent there

and I dont really understand why Jay-Z and Eminem are the only hiphop artists there...

Nope, wrong answer. The Cure is on there and they have been around since 1977.

Some bands, while starting their careers prior to 1986, produced some of their best work during the last 25 years.

It's a stupid poll if they haven't made clear the differentiation.

I think The Cure are a great case in point - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Disintigration. Elvis Costello is worthy of a nod according to the same logic.

Wouldn't put Muse at number 1, although they definitely deserve to be up there. It's just a shame they tend to play things safe at times. I'd probably put Radiohead at number 1, based on the sheer amount of great material they've put out there over the past two decades. Don't think anybody else comes close really.

I'd slap The Prodigy in there, as well as Arcade Fire.

if The Strokes don't deserve to be on there then there's no effing way The Flaming Lips should.

Really? What have The Strokes done? I admit I haven't heard an awful lot of them, just a few scattered singles, but every single one of them just gave me the impression that they're just a standard middle-of-the-road rock band. I haven't been contradicted by people I know who have made the plunge into what seems to be regarded as their best album, Is This It? Also, they've had very little cultural impact really, from what it seems like to me. Then again, I could be wrong. I'm giving the Arctics a reprieve from this because, after all, they did do I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, a song with massive cultural impact, perhaps Last Nite had a similar impact in its time? As I said, I don't know. Also, why not the Flaming Lips? They've made two of the very best albums of the last 25 years in The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots, while gaining the reputation of having one of, it not the very best live shows in the world. Seems like they deserve a nod.

Is This It? is one of very few albums released immediately before 9/11 that is still remembered, and as one of the best albums of the decade, no less. While I will admit to you that they may not have had such a cultural impact as some other bands, they still consistently put out some of the best songs of the past 10 years (in my and many other people's opinions). Is the poll about cultural impact? if it is then perhaps I'm wrong. As for the Flaming Lips.....I dunno. Maybe they deserve more credit than I'm giving them.
