Ridiculous things people have said to you about Muse

Muse is actually quite popular in my school (mainly because Uprising, KoC and SS have all been played at our school concerts. Me doing the two latter)

That's really cool. My brother played a string version of Resistance in the beginning of the year with some other bands for this Tri-M concert. Two years ago an alumni member from our band played Plug In Baby, also.

Muse is a screamo band

I've gotten close to this.

If you've never heard of a band called Skillet; they're very heavy, use a crapton of power chords, they're almost metal (they MIGHT be, I haven't heard much of them).

I pretty much hate them, mainly because of how heavy they are, and one of my friends was like "Uh, you can't use that as an excuse cause you listen to heavier stuff than that! Like Muse!"

Then 3 people agreed with her.

You guise, when some one makes fun of Muse it turns into some srsbsns.

I heard:

whiney , matt is gay (belldom), they use auto tune *gasp*

THIS IS WRONG AMIRITE?

Muse are pretty whiny. Why does it matter if Matt is gay or not? He probably isn't, but who knows. They do use autotune.

One of my friends who is one fo those people who trys REALLY hard to be 'different' says that Muse is pop.

Muse are pop.

You know this how?

Well, I think it's logical to assume they use it at least a little bit here and there. Obviously not very obviously. Whether they actually do for anything other than effects I've got no idea, though, but all the same, it's not the end of the world if they do. Sometimes a quick subtle fix for an expressive but slightly out-of-tune performance is better than 40 takes.

Maybe.

Said to me recently: "Arent you a bit old to be so devoted to some boyband."

Yeah, I mean, I remember Matt saying how he likes to keep the mistakes in the recordings instead of relying on the computer to fix everything. Of course that was around 1999, but still. But I'm not ruling out them never using autotune.

What!? Someone said that Muse are pop!? Muse, popular in the charts, with their catchy three or four minute songs. Songs that are easy to listen to, pop!? Blasphemy!

Muse are definitely pop.

Eh, they've got pop songs but that doesn't make them a pop band

They do make popular music but I wouldn't call them pop. Pop-rock is fine though. To me, 'pop' is more for generic songs that basically sounds like 1000x other songs just with small tweaks here and there. Basically the same, catchy recipe is used to most songs. Ideally with no defined instruments, very flat and computerized vocals. The music is often sold as a product together with a pretty face towards the youth generation.

Why do people make up their own definitions of pop music? Pop is short for popular. Popular music. Music that is popular. It's what it says on the tin.

As far as I know, pop-music and popular music ain't the same thing. While popular music refers to music under all genres that generally has a wide appeal, pop-music is more like I stated in my previous post.

Hai Stephen I am just stalking you. <3

Eva? But I was just stalking you... err.

We should take this paradox somewhere else ;)

So when any band becomes popular they're automatically pop?

When a band makes music which is popular, then yes, they have made pop music. Christ

Pop music is popular and catchy and generally quite simply structured, which applies to the majority of Muse's discography, though obviously excluding some. (Micro Cuts, Execution Commentary)

But Micro Cuts and Execution Commentary are both catchy and simply structured :p
