"Definitely the best band ever is Queen"

Matthew Bellamy Muse leader, the band opening for U2, talks about the show, from his new album and his group comparisons with others.

With growth was documented in five studio albums, the British quartet today came to Everest with The Resistance (09), a work completed to strengthen its dramatic character, and in the way, took place awards and a Grammy shaft for Best Rock Album. A band that began in the shadow of Radiohead, is compared to Queen and the route goes hand in hand with U2, has sealed the fate.

However, in communication exclusively with Clarín , Matt Bellamy tries to lighten the backpack.

Muse is a band very popular and known worldwide. What was the reason that led them to accept being carriers of U2? They will perform live for more people than we've ever played in Argentina. I think this is a great opportunity to play against people who have not heard us. U2 concert in South America, as well as worldwide, is one of the best things that can be witnessed. Take this as a further step to make ourselves known to other groups.

Honestly, before the draft curtains, did you like U2? Yes, of course. In my teens, it was a big fan of them. Actually, I think it's one of the best bands that exist now and for a long time. In truth, I have many expectations about the show, watch the concert of them being part delespectáculo.

"The Resistance" has this bombastic factor are classic albums ... We are more determined to speak on matters of a more universal yet intimate. I love making music and keep abreast of things happening around, not only internally.

Just the name sounds like a battle cry. Do you really believe in the strength and attitude? Resistance, revolutions, can make a profound and are the things we're seeing today. I think in the spirit of man is that strength and I think that strength is what leads people to make a difference.

Does the fact of speaking of paranoia, revelations, or ghosts, is a game in your mind or you really believe in these things? Sometimes the mind and reality in which we live are not necessarily separate. I think probably the way we think and feel has a direct effect on the way we live.

The tragedy happened in Japan could be a sign of it ... These natural disasters are not always predictable. People may have thought that such a thing might happen, but sometimes they forget that they can happen at any time. But this tragedy is a full demonstration that we should not think that natural disasters are far away. And this has nothing to do with paranoia.

In the early days, they were compared to Radiohead and now labeled as the new Queen. What do you think about your career? The best band ever is Queen, definitely. I think there are very few bands in the world that they can put aside. They brought sophistication and richness to the music and have the most interesting elements in what might be called "popular music." In short, they opened the door to a musical sound more interesting and rich. I could never say they feel insulted because I have influences from a band like Queen! "

The picture of Matt Bellamy and Kate Hudson together chimentero walked the planet. The actress from "Almost Famous" and the leader of Muse became inseparable and upping the ante: they will be parents. "I do not look like a celebrity," says Bellamy.

"People that looks like it is not busy seeing itself. I meet people who looks like me and I did not adjust, because I have a strict perception of who I am and where I come. I record albums, I'm going on tour, my life is quiet and does not affect me much. And I rely much on Kate, who lives almost since nació.Y that she likes Muse. If not, it could work "(laughs).

Sorry if it doesn't make much sense, I used google translate!

Why? Was that a joke?

It doesn't make very clear sense, but I can get the gist of some of it. Thanks for posting. :)

Yes it was. Not a very funny one obviously

People (me included) tend to over analyse every little word Matt says (i.e the Origin of Symmetry gig) to try and interpret what he means and what that means for future gigs.

I simply went over the top.

But as I'm typing it I was thinking to myself, 'yeah that wasn't very funny.' So just ignore it. Haha.

Thanks for posting. Weird how I've never met someone who likes U2, but hey, they must be popular for a reason.

No worries! :D

Not that it matters but I can't remember Matt mentioning that he liked U2 before. :D But then he could hardly say otherwise! :)

Mind you, you wouldn't have thought he would have liked Abba either! :D

Thanks for finding this! I never read Clarin unless I have no other choice, but now I had to, to see what Matt said. I translated the article myself, so it's less word-for-word and makes more sense to you English speakers (I hope, lol).

Queen is definitely the best band in the world.

Matthew Bellamy, frontman of U2's support band Muse, talks about the show, thier new album, and comparisons between his band and others.

With a growth documented by five studio albums, the British quartet arrived at Mt. Everest with The Resistance (09), a work that reinforced the band's dramatic character, and on the way, claimed prizes like the Grammy for Best Rock Album. A band that began in Radiohead's shadow, is compared to Queen, and goes on the road hand-in-hand with U2, its fate is sealed. However, in an exclusive interview with Clarin, Matt Bellamy tries to lighten the pressure.

Clarin: Muse is a very popular band all over the world. What made you accept U2's support slot?

Matt: They play live for more people than we've ever played for (in Argentina). I believe this is a great opportunity to play for people who have never heard us. The U2 show in South America, like other parts of the world, is one of the best things you can experience. We're taking this step to become known to a new audience.

Clarin: Honestly, before the offer to be their support act, did you like U2?

Matt: Yes, of course. As a teen I was a big fan of theirs. Really, I believe they're one of the best bands today and have been for a long time. I have high expectations for the show, to watch their show and be part of it.

Clarin: The Resistance has some of that bombastic factor that the classic albums have...

Matt: We're more determined now to talk about universal and at the same time, intimate topics. I love to make music and to keep up with what's happening around me, not just inside.

Clarin: The name itself sounds like a war cry. Do you really believe in resistance as an attitude?

Matt: Resistance, revolution can achieve profound changes, and those are the things we're seeing now. I think that the human race has that strength, that drive, that moves people to change things.

Clarin: Talking about paranoia, revelations or ghosts, is that a game in your mind, or do you truly believe in those things?

Matt: Sometimes, the mind and the reality in which we live are not necessarily separate. I think that possibly the way we think and feel has a direct effect in the way we live.

The tragedy that happened in Japan could be an example of that...those natural disasters are not always predictable. People may have an idea that something like that could happen, but sometimes they forget that they could happen at any time. This tragedy is a demonstration that we shouldn't think natural disasters are far away. And that has nothing to do with paranoia.

Clarin: In the beginning, you were compared to Radiohead. Now, you've been labeled the new Queen. What is your opinion?

Matt: Queen is definitely the best band in the world. I think there are few bands in the world that can compare. They brought sophistication and richness to music and had the most interesting elements in what we'd call "popular music". They definitely opened the door to a more interesting and rich musical sound. I could never feel insulted because someone says I've been influenced by Queen!

The shorter article doesn't say anything about the band, it's more personal so I'm not translating it. It just says that Matt doesn't see himself as a celebrity, and that he relies a lot on Kate for dealing with the celebrity thing. Also, she likes Muse, otherwise the relationship wouldn't work.

Thanks for translating the article. That's much clearer. :D

And I think he said in the last bit that he has a strong sense of who he is, which is a good thing. I don't want him forgetting who he is and turning all celebrity on us. Not that he would!

That's one reason the tweets are nice, because you get a little bit of reality amongst all the made up stuff.

The only trouble is, in distancing himself from the relationship PR, he is in danger of losing control of how he is perceived. But the only alternative is embracing it and that would be worse, I think.

Anyway, good article, thanks.

And that's an interesting note... you have to like Muse for Matt to love you :chuckle:

Well, it's safe to assume that Muse is a pretty big part of his entire being, so not liking Muse would probably make things a bit difficult.
