I think what Carrie meant was that quote from Chris was basically saying "we were considering doing a b-sides show but scrapped that and decided to do this instead". Hence, we shouldn't expect a shit-load of b-sides at R/L/. That's the way I took it too.

Fair enough, and I did mention that they haven't outright said 'we're playing b-sides'. But I also think it's fair for people to hope we might get at least one based on something he alluded to. It's not an expectation, cos they didn't confirm or deny, I'm just hoping it's a possibility.

The simple fact that Chris brought up B-sides and 'stuff that we haven't played for a long time/older songs that never get a look in' is gonna send up alarm bells, speculation and incessant discussions until the gigs happen. That's just how fans are (Muse fans, at least). ;)

Muse don't seem to have grasped the fact that fans will analyse every single word they say ;)

They didn't say they'd play Exogenesis in full at Glastonbury, just gave hints that they might. The fans analysed every word and came up with huge expectations (not unreasonably) and were disappointed. I'd just urge a little caution in fans building up their expectations.

Personally, I'm going along expecting something different to the TR tour shows but I'm not going to pin my hopes on specific songs because the odd on being disappointed are too high.

For once, I disagree. Why do they HAVE to play their regulars? It's not a tour show. These are one-offs - they're free to do what they like. Just because it's a festival, doesn't mean they have to please the general fans.

You're right, they don't have to play their regulars, but to me they just don't seem to be the kind of band who just show up and play whatever the hell they want. They seem to be keen to please the general audience and their definition of "fans" probably extends well beyond this OOS-obsessed board. I might turn out to be wrong, but I don't see them abandoning that mentality too much, even when, in theory, they're planning to do a special gig.

However, to me, it sounds like they're finally doing something for us older fans and celebrating the Muse of old, not just pleasing the general wave of fans in the crowd that will know their hits and most-recent tracks.

I don't think they said anything in the article about older fans. It's far more realistic IMO to look at this as Muse doing something for themselves.

It's not unfair of us to have high expectations for this, especially when they've said that they will be celebrating an album that like 90% of the people here hold has their favorite. I don't see why they would completely ditch this idea or chicken out (only playing FG, CE, Bliss, PIB, NB) after that interview, unless they really have gone insane after the bullshit that was The Resistance Tour. They wouldn't alienate casual fans, but they would certainly alienate their most loyal ones.

Yes, thank you. That is what I meant.

This is how I see it. Of course fan feedback is likely to contribute to the bigger picture, and it is important to them to please their audience (their whole audience), from what they have said, but it sounds to me like the inspiration of how they should do that is from their own feelings of how they'd like to make it special, and is against a background of their own thoughts and questions on where they should go from here as a band and how they can celebrate their own career. And that's how it should be, I think.

I think if they hadn't kept that kind of insular way of thinking and were hanging on to the words posted after gigs on muse.mu. and trying to do the impossible of pleasing everyone they wouldn't have kept going! (And they may have slit their wrists by now!) I think they need a healthy degree of self determination. That's just what I think. It may not be right of course.

But anyway, saying that I think they like it when fans enjoy their whole catalogue, and know and enjoy the old songs and I think they will be playing them.

I think its going to be great! :D

Well, I know some people are doubtful of their ability to surprise but this is definitely more than enough to get me to abuse my overdraft and head over to Reading for the day! Don't know who the hell with, but oh well!!

A 3D OoS stage? Knowing (yes, knowing!) that CE and Bliss will be played? Maybe Micro Cuts? A slightly more than vague, completely and ridiculously tantalising possibility of Dark Shines, Hyper Music, and DEAD STAR?! (I won't get started on other rarities I hope for) Maybe getting to say goodbye to Feeling Good.....? ;) ha!

ITs been a while since they played them all in one gig to be fair.

It may be a while since they played all those songs anywhere in the world but they played them all at their last UK gig, so to have them as the only OoS songs at Leeds/Reading will mean it isn't special at all but just the same as the last Wembley gig.

Exactly. And they did say that they wanted this to be different to Wembley.

Oh yeah, keep forgetting they didn't play it second night! Took me until the next day to realise they hadn't!:LOL::LOL:

Just goes to show you how much we missed it when it's not being played!

Took me a while to realise they didn't play it or TIRO at Casino de Paris!

Yeah, I don't hate New Born but I certainly wouldn't care if it became a rarity! Then I may actually start to appreciate it again.........if Matt finds his piano stool again that is.

Same, don't hate it either but yeah bellamy needs to find his piano stool and they need to quicken it up a bit... Tbh I haven't really enjoy New Born since Teignmouth.

Of all the many gigs I've been to (2) I have to say New Born is probably one of my favourite live songs. I enjoyed it more at Teignmouth than I did Bliss at Wembley anyway.

But I agree with you that he needs to start playing the piano part again - he's butchering a song that encapsulated all that was great about muse.

Okay, you cynics - tell me it'll be disappointing/might-not-live-up-to-the-hype after we've been told (by Matt) that they'll play OoS in full! :p:D:awesome::pope: Granted Matt is a pretty unreliable source for any accurate quoting, but I think he's being serious for a change!

I can see your points, and tbh I would normally agree that it's Muse, so they just wouldn't give us TOO much to be pleased about, and don't get too carried away/hopeful... BUT this time I'm sticking with my gut - they've made a whole fucking song and dance, in this one interview and in their website 'coverage' alone, about the fact that these gigs will be 'one-offs' and something bloody different! They've mentioned that they'll play some songs that 'will probably never be played again'. That clearly can't mean the same old staples, so it has to be the rare ones that they haven't played in 10 years or so, and don't plan to do ever again - hence 'one-off'.

I'll keep saying it - they shouldn't say stuff that they can't live up to. If it's just PiB, New Born, CE, Bliss and FG from Origin, then it's not a one-off or special show or Anything that they said it would be. It's just the same as flippin' Wembley! So, they have to introduce songs they don't often play. How can we not get our hopes up knowing all that?

I know they're not exactly a spontaneous band, especially of late where everything depends on the light shows and every set is pretty much the same/usual vanilla stuff, but that's all the more reason for them to change it up. That doesn't mean they'll show up on stage and just make it up - they're still Muse, so they'll have a rigid setlist, but it's one that will look very VERY different to The Resistance tour. It should be unique, as they've alluded to several times.

If it's not, they've fucked up big time.

Ok, you were right :D

On the basis of just the NME interview, I'd be cautious, but with the Kirkbot announcement and now this tweet, I'm confident that we're getting some incredibly rare songs at Reading. Hyper Music! Space Dementia! Micro Fucking Cuts

Well he did say 'in its entirety' which is the same thing :p

I know he said probably, but I'm ignoring that bit.

Ignore it if you want, but it's there, and a probability is not a certainty :phu:

And I'm going to stop now, I'm just pissed/jealous because I can't go  :'(
