Jackplug
Jon, stop trying. You're wrong. The characteristics of an eBowed note and a sustained/loud note aren't the same, at all. BUT. It came;
cheddatom
Looks nice. Every PRS i've played has sounded shit though.
Samcoma
Very good looking guitar! -Tom: Which PRS have you tried? Some of the SE versions? The ones I've tried (CE) have always sounded great.
cheddatom
I don't know they all look the same to me. I tried whatever they had in academy of sound stoke a year or two ago. A couple of them were £500ish and one was £1100 I think.
Jackplug
Mine sounds fantastic. Has alot of character. I can't stand boring bland sounding guitars. It's very lively sounding. The ASAT murders it though.
cheddatom
The one's i've played have this kind of dull sound to them. They sound fine acoustically, it's just the pups i'm sure. If anyone has seen the Chevelle live DVD, he's using a PRS of some sort and you can really hear what i'm talking about.

cheddatom
It's pretty good on the albums! But yeh, not much variety or anything. Anyway, he sounds miles worse live than he does on CD and I put a lot of that down to the PRS mainly because the ones I tried sounded the same. Yeah on the albums he sounds pretty good, but I'd definately agree live. That may have something to do with his amp set up live though but I'm not sure. cheddatom
I can't remember what amp set up he has but I thought it was something with real potential like mesa.
Samcoma
Not sure I thought it was a Marshall set up he was using.
haze015
Jon, stop trying. You're wrong. The characteristics of an eBowed note and a sustained/loud note aren't the same, at all. not true. the characteristics of an ebow and resonant feedback (which doesn't always break into a harmonic) is exactly the same when holding a note. though what jonno is talking about is complete nonsense, don't even need to pick or use yur volume control for any of this, just like using an eBow, if you are playing loud enough, just hammer the notes and it'll work as what is actually going on is very similar. Neil.
another point, would you rather use an ebow and play to the crowd, or, turn your back on them to do something far fiddlier that doesn't sound as good...

Neil.
a little easier? a lot easier... we could sit and argue all day, but instead, lets laugh at other things. Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBuo41qYOgw
haze015
a little easier? a lot easier... not really, i rarely use my ebow because it's that easy. but i use the amp quite loud and have an overdrive on at all times, the guitar feeds back quite easily. haze015
did you miss that? no, just don't want to be told that something can't be done or is difficult to do when i do it every fucking week at practise!
haze015
And what happens when you can't crank your amp? No feedback. luckily for me i don't have that problem. the amp only gets used at rehearsals or gigs, doesn't even get plugged in at home anymore. What about recording? I know I can't always crank an amp when recording because of clipping.

the_man361
I always manage to clip mics. What about recording? I know I can't always crank an amp when recording because of clipping. sounds like your preamp might be quite high gain, you should be able to crank amps right up.. what mics are we talking about here, sm-57's? they can take a battering SPL wise, so maybe you'd be well off looking into a -10/20dB pad?
