Hat Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Whether or not you agree with Muse's direction as of late, how does that make Bellamy a "shit" frontman? Sure they aren't as energetic as they used to be as a whole, but still...he's still way more entertaining to watch than most (or all) current frontmen in rock. chill out man
Tesseract Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 chill out man Sorry, just one of those days. No hard feelings.
ArtsyChick Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I think Axl deserves to be in the Top 10 because he used to be great in the golden days of GnG. But he totally destroyed his own reputation. Now he's just an asshole. My list: 1. Freddie Mercury 2. Jim Morrison 3. Kurt Cobain 4. Mick Jagger 5. Robert Plant 6. John Lennon 7. Zack de la Rocha 8. Matt Bellamy 9. Thom Yorke 10. Axl Rose This isn't my ideal list, but it's better than the actual one. Mick Jagger deserves to be in there. Axl Rose wouldn't exist without Mick Jagger!
Super Sammy! Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I still think Freddie Mercury was the best frontman ever.
CarrieB Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I never liked to watch him. Really just too much. Matt on the other hand...sometimes subtle is better. Okay I've seen more competent frontmen but you like to see who you want to see. The most competent frontman won't have it if you don't like them. And don't get me wrong I love the music of Queen, the show turned me off though.

CarrieB Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 whos more competent than matt? Oh come on! LOL! Everyone knows he's not a brilliant frontman, but for those who love him, he's just what you need.
Hat Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Oh come on! LOL! Everyone knows he's not a brilliant frontman, but for those who love him, he's just what you need. Exactly. He might not be the best one on crowd banter or whatever you call it, and isn't really "there" a lot of the time. But he's still brilliant at what he does on stage, but it's not exactly what makes a great frontman.

Yeah, what I'm trying to say is that Freddie Mercury might have been great at working the crowd but personally I'd rather watch Matt humping his guitar because I didn't find Freddie Mercury remotely attractive, rest his soul, so on paper, objectively, you would say Freddie was the better frontman but who would I rather watch? It's an easy choice. I feel bad now. Poor Freddie. Basically I'm not really into all that pomp and ceremony in any case, so it's stupid me commenting.

Matt is definitely one of my favorite frontmen if we are looking at whole careers. But that has a lot to do with his personality. He could do a lot of things better as a frontman. I'm not sure who I would say is the best actually...no idea.
Dee3Dee Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Basically I'm not really into all that pomp and ceremony in any case. And yet you've insisted on defending Muse the entire tour. Haha, I'm sorry, but there's too little beef in this thread.
Hat Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 And yet you've insisted on defending Muse the entire tour. Haha, I'm sorry, but there's too little beef in this thread. I really fought to let that one go, but you just couldn't
Dee3Dee Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I really fought to let that one go, but you just couldn't Well someone had to pick up your slack.
Hat Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Well someone had to pick up your slack. Hey, I will soon be having a nice undertitle, I better live up to it! And CarrieB better live up to hers...
Dee3Dee Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Hey, I will soon be having a nice undertitle, I better live up to it! And CarrieB better live up to hers... She got my undertitle because people voted like idiots. Stupid Banter.
Hat Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 She got my undertitle because people voted like idiots. Stupid Banter. Fuck you, I deserved it way more than you. I have been posting about this since before you even bothered to check the boards
Dee3Dee Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Fuck you, I deserved it way more than you. I have been posting about this since before you even bothered to check the boards I've been lurking these boards since before you learned to read, so fuck YOU. Also, I'm cooler.
nohopeinfear Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 whos more potent than matt? Chris, obviously
Caff Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I still think Freddie Mercury was the best frontman ever. Me also. I don't care that I don't find him attractive or whatever. He just owned the crowd in a way that I don't think anyone has been able to since.
Meep Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Me also. I don't care that I don't find him attractive or whatever. He just owned the crowd in a way that I don't think anyone has been able to since. Word, can't believe what I read on here sometimes
Caff Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Word, can't believe what I read on here sometimes I honestly don't think it should matter when you're watching live music.
cornelius Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Yeah, what I'm trying to say is that Freddie Mercury might have been great at working the crowd but personally I'd rather watch Matt humping his guitar because I didn't find Freddie Mercury remotely attractive, rest his soul, so on paper, objectively, you would say Freddie was the better frontman but who would I rather watch? Freddie was better.

A great frontman works the crowd, not the cameras filming it. It's impossible to judge a frontman by Youtube videos, it's all about being in the venue at the time.
