'Matt Bellamy Hints that Muse could go soft' - The Sun website 8/12/10

The main problem with this "article" and others like it is the fact that they imply the fact that Matt has complete creative control over Muse. Whether or not Matt wants to write "soft" music or a double album filled with the saxophone solo from Careless Whisper by Wham!, it's not his decision alone to make. The band has said before that they function as a democracy, so ideally, Matt wouldn't be wielding total control over the other two that would lead them to go "soft".

it would be argued it's just gunna be more personal like showbiz, because that was exactly what matt did, i think we should just not prepare ourselves for anything, and see what it's like when it comes. it takes muse ages to do albums anyways so anything could happen in between!:D HOPEFULLY hahaha, byebye kate hudson.

A list of stuff to blame ,

twilight

kate hudson

radiohead and its very depressing song , the one the band is most known for.

no change of setlist

and..

twilight again. I am sure the list can go on if you throw in shit youth music.. kidz bop , bloody fuck.

All of those things are completely irrelevant. They've got nothing to do with Matt's songwriting being 'more open and personal'. And parts of Showbiz were 'open and personal' anyway.

The best song writers write about their own personal lives, what they are interested in, what makes them tick, etc. Of course Matt will write about his breakup & maybe about any new relationship he may have, but that doesn't mean that is ALL he will write about.

Let's face it--the reason this article was written in the way it was written was to get certain Muse fans all riled up about a possible 'Yoko Ono' destructive influence on the group, which has no basis in fact at all.

Matt's arguably one of the worst lyricists in rock music

He and Chad Kroeger can fight it out.

I think Chad's probably better as a lyricist. he has all the musical ability of a kipper, but he's a better lyricist than bellamy*

*based on consistency. Matt's had some better ones, but some of them make Chad's look positively insightful, whereas Kroeger tends to scrape the barrel on a rather reliable basis
