jack259
Okay I'm after a few pedals... I'm after a fairly Matt-esq type sound, but with my own bit of individuality, as I won't get it exact. I don't have a very big budget, so I'll probably be going second hand, or going for budget brands. I'm not specifically after his exact pedals, but if they match my needs then please name them. I'm after: Distortion (for the all out distortion, on tracks such as Bliss, Hysteria, Muscle Museum and TIRO perhaps. Do not confuse with fuzz, I've got that one covered) Delay (think Guiding Light, MOTP, Hysteria) Reverb (just to add to the overall sound, with the occasional over usage, again, Guiding Light) & Chorus (i know matt doesn't really use chorus but I could do with a cheap one for my guitar grade 7, and he occasionally throws it in) And add any other effects Matt uses that I may have missed out, I'm not entirely sure on the others that he uses, except Whammy, Wah, and Fuzz, of which I've got/got covered The amp I'm using is a Peavey ValveKing Royal 8 (class A, 5 watt valve amp) I'm looking for individual stomp boxes, I'm not a fan of multi effects. Although the two-in-one pedals you sometimes get will do... Thanks in advance
JimboMansonMB-1
Delay: I'd look at the Line 6 Echo Park, very good for the money. Or something EHX, they've recently come out with some great smaller delays like the Memory Toy and Boy. Memory Toy: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Electro-Harmonix-Memory-Toy-Analog-Echo-and-Chorus-Guitar-Effects-Pedal?sku=502713 Memory Boy: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Electro-Harmonix-Memory-Boy-Delay-Guitar-Effects-Pedal?sku=502712 Echo Park: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Line-6-ToneCore-Echo-Park-Delay-Guitar-Effects-Pedal?sku=150388 Distortion: I've always heard good things about the DigiTech Bad Monkey. Are you looking for a real distortion or overdrive as well? You can't go wrong with a TS-9 or 808. Also, I think Visual Sound pedals like the Jekyll & Hyde or Route 66 would be worth a look. Bad Monkey: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/DigiTech-DBM-Bad-Monkey-Overdrive-Guitar-Effects-Pedal?sku=150831 Ibanez TS peddles: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=Ibanez+TS Visual Sound: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/navigation/guitars?N=100001+304262&Ntk=All&Ntt=Visual+Sound&Nty=1 Chorus and Reverb: You can't go wrong with anything EHX, they should also have some good smaller peddles that will cover what you're looking for. EHX Nano Holy Grail Reverb: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Electro-Harmonix-Holy-Grail-Nano-Reverb-Guitar-Effects-Pedal?sku=620031 EHX Nano Clone Chorus: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Electro-Harmonix-Nano-Clone-Chorus-Guitar-Effects-Pedal?sku=150049 Also, if you haven't got one, I'd recommend a phaser. Matt uses one quite a bit and they're just generally fun to have. Check these out: MXR Phase 90 (Matt's phaser): http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MXR-CSP101CL-Custom-Shop-Script-Phase-90-with-LED-Phaser-Pedal?sku=151051 EDIT: Also, the MXR Phase 100. More versatile than the Phase 90, same price, and Matt tours with one: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MXR-M107-Phase-100-Effects-Pedal?sku=151106 EHX Small Stone (My favorite): http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Electro-Harmonix-Nano-Small-Stone-Phase-Shifter-Guitar-Effects-Pedal?sku=150080 Hope this helps! Motp is not delay... Matt doesnt use a Wah.

Thanks a lot, it does. About the Bad Monkey, I've already got one of these but I've never really got a full, thick sound from it, mainly just a tubey overdrive which is good for a crunchy sound, although I'll play about with it. I was thinking the Boss ds-2 maybe? I'll definitely get a phaser too
rust_relic
I've been using the Line 6 M9, Fuzz Factory and Digitech Whammy recently, Can get most sounds with that setup, The distortions and pitchshifters aren't as good as stand alone pedals but the rest sound very convincing. Matt B has been using a Line 6 M13 (the larger version of the M9, same sounds) for TV shows, saves having to drag the full rig in so you can't go too far wrong with that, this picture is from the o2 arena showing Matt and Jason setting it up
Don'tPostThePear
+1 for the Rat. I had a Bad Monkey but then i built a pimped up TS808, while it was made from quality parts and stuff, it wasn't marginally better than the Monkey, i'd say that the monkey is amazing for the price. On the other hand, i could never got a Matt sound out from a TS like pedal, the mids were too much and there were not enough bass and lows. (at least with my bypassed tonestack) (on the other hand, i used an EQ after it with good results) The Rat is much closer to that sound. My modified and slightly fucked up (happy mistakes around the tonestack) RAT is the best drive pedul i have ever made, it deserves a much better enclosure than that unpainted scrap hammond with fucked up drill holes here and there. It is much closer to a matt sound and probably a stock one can't be much different than mine, i think i gonna build the stock version with the LM308 for compare the two. jack259
Cheers everyone I've Come to this so far... Distortion: Boss DS-2 Ibanez Tube Screamer 7 ProCo Rat Leaning towards the TS7, but I'm not sure if it's completely what I want, I guess I'm after distortion rather than overdrive, but I'm not entirely sure on the difference The Rat is probably too much for me and the DS-2 has a attachable remote which could come in very useful. Or I might just get a good sound out of the Bad Monkey... Phaser: MXR Phase 90 Electro Harmonix Small Stone Can't decide between the two, will probably go for the cheaper one which is the Small Stone, although I think I'd rather have the Phase 90 because Bellorz uses it... Delay: Line 6 Echo Park Electro Harmonix Memory Toy Digitech Digi Delay The Memory Toy looks most probable here Reverb: Electro Harmonix Nano Holy Grail Chorus: Electro Harmonix Nano Clone Electro Harmonix Small Clone Or I might just get a cheap Danelectro one as I won't use it much... faptdivers
Why the fuck are you guys recomending the Nano Clone? I think there's a general consensus about it being the worst chorus out there.

I think there's a general consensus about it being the worst chorus out there. I've just bought the Danelectro Milkshake Chorus XD Managed to get it second hand for about £20. I wasn't after anything spectacular, like I said, it's mainly for an exam piece. Why do Danelectro have such stupid names for their pedals? If anything it can detract buyers, I mean, Hash Brown Reverb
