dekza
I rated each album but I gave 10/10 to Sex Pistols, Jimi Hendrix, White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, Arctici Monkeys, Joy Division, The Doors, Jeff Buckley, Showbiz. Most of these albums I think had an effect on the course of music in its time or at least are the defining album of the artist. For example the Pistols - started the punk explosion. I think the Klaxons should be there with their debut. That was a great debut album. I love Radiohead but I just don't really see Pablo Honey as anything extraordinary to be a great debut album except for Creep I guess And I voted for Showbiz as well, because it's just great. haze015
I don't want to get into beef but...are you kidding me? Pieces of What is probably my least favourite, but other than that it's the best I've ever heard! I feel sorry for you if it's the best you've ever heard. There were plenty of bands doing the exact same thing before (Animal Collective is an obvious one), but better. Oracular Spectacular is just dreadful. For example the Pistols - started the punk explosion Careful with that one. They brought it to the attention of the mainstream audience, the first band with the "punk" label was Suicide, a 2-piece electronica act.

They started the punk explosion, which may be true, I'm not that well informed on the subject. Oh and, Oracular Spectacular has aged awfully in just 2 years

Every band from that period always claims to have been at the 100 Club or the Free Trade Hall in Manchester. The first UK punk band was The Damned - The Sex Pistols had nothing to do with the DIY/Indie label thing that happened as they were on EMI & then Virgin and were always slated as sell outs by other bands (Crass in particular). It's all very confusing and it depends on what you define "punk" as. Suicide are the absolute definition of "punk" though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGLJoXpKo4U

Liron
Kasabian, Arcade Fire, MGMT, Gorillaz all missing from the list.. and plenty of others really :/ shit poll is shit. Out of the choises - definitely RATM and Franz Ferdinand
haze015
Still, no one is saying that The Sex Pistols started punk, just that they made it big. But then you have The Ramones, The Clash etc... It's a bad topic to get onto, that's my point. I've seen arguments for The Sex Pistols having no impact at all in 1977 and everyone was actually just listening to The Ramones, but were "too cool" to admit to it. Never Mind The Bollocks... is an absolute classic though.

Zaphod Chizzlebrox
I can't be arsed looking through the list but if Guillemots' debut album isn't in there it's even more bullshit. I think the point is there's too many great debut albums to be covered in a shitty online poll

I think the point is there's too many great debut albums to be covered in a shitty online poll It's not on there, it's just a list of famous first albums & famous band's first albums, as it'll go around their forums, everyone tries to rig it, NME gets lots of dough from all hits they've received. But yeah, where's: Suicide - Suicide Public Image Limited - Metal Box Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables Soft Cell - Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Boards Of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun Massive Attack - Blue Lines The Rapture - Echoes Could go on for days. Yeah I don't think NME are about to put those two on a poll. Shame, though.
dontask
I think Showbiz is one of the worst debuts to be honest. Relatively anyway. Alot of bands peak at their debut.

dekza
Well usually debut isn't the best album for a band. Only in some cases where it makes them big. I agree that poll has a lot missing. Gorillaz, The XX, Klaxons etc.
