The 2011 Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA on February 13 and will be broadcast on CBS. Ballots are due from voting members of the Academy on November 3 and nominations will be announced on December 1.

"Uprising" was released as a single in August 2009 and therefore under the Grammy rules it appears it cannot be nominated for any 2011 song categories. However, both the album "The Resistance" and the single "Resistance" are eligible and are listed on the ballot in several categories including rock. Also, three Muse videos including "Uprising", "Resistance" and NSC are under consideration by voters for best short-form video.

Rock acts such as Kings of Leon, Coldplay and Green Day have been nominated and won Grammys in the past several years in various categories including the three major ones: Record, Song and Album of the Year. Foo Fighters, RHCP and Radiohead have also recently been nominated for Album of the Year. Usually a rock album makes the final cut as one of the five nominees.

Is this the first time Muse have been nominated for anything at the Grammy's? It's an achievement on it's own if it is.

Hopefully they get a nomination. :D

Oh I read it too quickly, I see they're not actually nominated yet. I hope they get at least one too.

I haven't heard anything good, that's won a Grammy.

Kid A? OK Computer? The Downward Spiral? The Fragile? Thriller? Lot's of great albums.

Ahhh the Grammy's, kinda like the Oscars, you get publicity but in the long run they mean absolutely fuck all.

Isn't that what all awards are, essentially? :p

They're not nominated yet, nominations aren't announced until December 1, they're just on the nomination ballot among the "qualified" songs/albums for acadamy members to choose from when choosing the nominees... I think this is the first time for that, though...

sheeesh... how many times can one person use a variation of the word "nominate" in one run-on sentence?:$

Uprising can't count, yet The Resistance can?

It has to do with the deadlines. I think the deadline for qualification is around Sept 1 (i.e. this year's awards will be for songs and albums released between Sept 1 2009 and Aug 31 2010)

Uprising was released officially as a single in early August '09, while The Resistance was released Sept 15 '09, hence the split...

Just feel like posting this letter that Nick Cave wrote to MTV refusing his nomination

TO ALL THOSE AT MTV,

I WOULD LIKE TO START BY THANKING YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE GIVEN ME OVER RECENT YEARS AND I AM BOTH GRATEFUL AND FLATTERED BY THE NOMINATIONS THAT I HAVE RECEIVED FOR BEST MALE ARTIST. THE AIR PLAY GIVEN TO BOTH THE KYLIE MINOGUE AND P. J. HARVEY DUETS FROM MY LATEST ALBUM MURDER BALLADS HAS NOT GONE UNNOTICED AND HAS BEEN GREATLY APPRECIATED. SO AGAIN MY SINCERE THANKS.

HAVING SAID THAT, I FEEL THAT IT'S NECESSARY FOR ME TO REQUEST THAT MY NOMINATION FOR BEST MALE ARTIST BE WITHDRAWN AND FURTHERMORE ANY AWARDS OR NOMINATIONS FOR SUCH AWARDS THAT MAY ARISE IN LATER YEARS BE PRESENTED TO THOSE WHO FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH THE COMPETITIVE NATURE OF THESE AWARD CEREMONIES. I MYSELF, DO NOT. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN OF THE OPINION THAT MY MUSIC IS UNIQUE AND INDIVIDUAL AND EXISTS BEYOND THE REALMS INHABITED BY THOSE WHO WOULD REDUCE THINGS TO MERE MEASURING. I AM IN COMPETITION WITH NO-ONE.

MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MY MUSE IS A DELICATE ONE AT THE BEST OF TIMES AND I FEEL THAT IT IS MY DUTY TO PROTECT HER FROM INFLUENCES THAT MAY OFFEND HER FRAGILE NATURE.

SHE COMES TO ME WITH THE GIFT OF SONG AND IN RETURN I TREAT HER WITH THE RESPECT I FEEL SHE DESERVES - IN THIS CASE THIS MEANS NOT SUBJECTING HER TO THE INDIGNITIES OF JUDGEMENT AND COMPETITION. MY MUSE IS NOT A HORSE AND I AM IN NO HORSE RACE AND IF INDEED SHE WAS, STILL I WOULD NOT HARNESS HER TO THIS TUMBREL - THIS BLOODY CART OF SEVERED HEADS AND GLITTERING PRIZES. MY MUSE MAY SPOOK! MAY BOLT! MAY ABANDON ME COMPLETELY!SO ONCE AGAIN, TO THE PEOPLE AT MTV, I APPRECIATE THE ZEAL AND ENERGY THAT WAS PUT BEHIND MY LAST RECORD, I TRULY DO AND SAY THANK YOU AND AGAIN I SAY THANK YOU BUT NO...NO THANK YOU.

This has nothing to do with Muse? Im Nick Cave refers to Anita Lane as his Muse?

;8631633']Ohhh ok' date=' in what way though?[/quote']

in the context of the earlier discussion in this thread. Grammy's being shit and whatnot. Show business vs. Showbiz

if the artist has embraced the rules of show business and it does not hurt his creativity, so be it.

Good point. I can't see how show business has affected Muse. there different they dont play for the showbiz or anything! I would rather they won the Mercury Prize though, I think for musicians (and by musicians I mean people who actually write music, not Bieber and shite like that) that is the most important award?
