DeadStar01 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Does anyone know of any professional luthiers in dublin? I don't have a hope in hell in making a guitar by myself (failed in woodwork and metalwork ), and google isn't showing up any results for luthiers of a modern style, most of them seem to focus on design rather than actual attributes :/ So anyway, yeah, cheers to anyone who knows anything, thanks!
hooglebug Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 design rather than attributes!? what? what kind of thing are you looking for exactly? i dont know of any luthiers in dublin but i know of one here
DeadStar01 Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 design rather than attributes!? what? I mean, they focus more on the appearance of guitars than features like pickups and in-built effects. And where do you live?? I don't mind travelling a bit out to find one
hooglebug Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 people generally dont focus on in-built effects as its largely useless. a relatively small amount of guitarists would find it useful to have something in a guitar rather than on the floor. and any luthier im sure would use whatever pickup a customer asked for. im in yorkshire - a bit too far out i imagine hehe
DeadStar01 Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 Yeah, yorkshire is quite a walk But like, I can't find any left handed guitars with a non-locking kill switch, so that's one thing I'll have to get someone to install, and there's the pick up change I want done (s-s-s is a bit shit). It'd be pretty handy to have a delay switch on board. I kinda hate having to stand in front of pedal layouts all the time btw
hooglebug Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 well thats kinda the point in getting a custom guitar - you get what you want
Neil. Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 deadstar i know a few, but i doubt they're what you're looking for. They only do specific types, namely, semihollow ones. I was going to work with one who's a friend of my neighbours to do a sort of MoC-JackWhite hybrid, but it fell through. My suggestion would be to go out to xmusic and ask them. If my memory serves me correctly, the guy in charge of the guitar section is called steve. They're mega mega mega helpful, and i'm sure they'd know someone. Plus, it's an awesome shop anyway. edit: or, if you know EXACTLY what you want, just get hooglebug to make it. you wont need to see progress, cos all the stuff he's done so far has been handcrafted from imported exotic win.
Phill Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Sounds like he just wants a couple of mods done to an existing guitar.
Neil. Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 if its simple stuff like pickups, i could do it., otherwise, that place xmusic is the way to go. http://www.xmusic.ie
DeadStar01 Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 Wait, X Music can do altercations!?
Neil. Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 they've a repair department, but it depends on what you're looking for. They can be pricey, but do good work. I had my bridge repaired there a while ago. what have you in mind?
DeadStar01 Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 I was thinking about getting the kill switch put in first. Do you know if they'd have a non-locking one themselves or would I have to get the parts first or would they help me find one? And yeah, Ste's a legend
Neil. Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 i dont know. i dont work for them. I doubt they'd do it, but i'm sure they'd know of someone who would. A Killswitch is pretty easy to do, but bare in mind that you're going to get ripped off pretty much anywhere you go in ireland.
cheddatom Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Wait, X Music can do altercations!? I wouldn't go in to a shop and ask for an altercation.
DeadStar01 Posted October 27, 2010 Author Posted October 27, 2010 I wouldn't go in to a shop and ask for an altercation. Sorry, typo
