bloodymaryiii
Last time I watched Eurovision I was 7 or 8 and I already thought it was ridiculous. the trick is to watch it while drinking and bitching about the dresses with friends It's quite entertaining that way. But muse ....no. just. no.

JoshyBarth
I hope they don't do it..... unless they deliberately take the piss and run into and around the crowd and stuff..... then it would be hilarious!

Jetro
I seem to forgot I even made this thread. Chain of quotes incoming: Muse have sold out enough. Participating in the Eurovision Song Contest would destroy what remains of their integrity. I don't get arguments like this – It's like you 'give up' when a band reach a certain popularity. What's wrong about reaching out to the world? It doesn't make their music any less their music. And unless I really missed something, Eurovision performances are live. They used to be at any rate, last time I watched it, circa 1989... Yes, they are «live» in the sense that they have to sing. But instruments are recorded beforehand. Well some of the songs are certainly cheesy enough, Matt walks around in a glitter suit with ott rehearsed knee-slides and cheesy hand gestures.. Exactly, Matt would fit into that setting perfectly. I don't see what's cheesy about participating in ESC compared to Matt walking around in a silver-space-suit at a large gig with matching glasses. I hope they don't do it..... unless they deliberately take the piss and run into and around the crowd and stuff..... then it would be hilarious! I'm sure they'd put on a good show The only good performance there war Lordi. See, you liked Lordi! What makes you think Muse wouldn't make it enjoyable? (...)it's Eurovision, a place with no talent (...) I give you: ABBA, Cliff Richards, Jahn Teigen (), Brotherhood of Man, Johnny Logan (he won 4 times), Nicole, Herreys, Bobbysocks (debatable), Céline Dion, Sandra Kim, Toto Cutugno, Carola, Linda Martin, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan, Secret Garden, Katrina and the Waves (incidentally my favourite Eurovision song ever), Olsen Brothers, Dima Bilan, Alexander Rybak (you can hate this guy, but you can't say he's got no talent). In Sweden, a lot of people actually take the Eurovision dead serious. It's in the media all the time about what we need to do to win it, and they are talking about international judges to decide what we should send and so on. Tell me about it. and i thought hearing motp on the xfactor was bad enough. The way I see it: The more exposed the world is to Muse, the better. I want them to be popular. For instance, I like that Adam Lambert does so many Muse songs. Obviously he loves the band. if it became one of their infamous mime performace it would be a funny idea. They could in a way that they can do whatever they want with the instrumental part. No matter how many «shitty contributions», it doesn't mean there aren't rooms for any good ones. Eurovision is as serious as we make it. I honestly think Muse would enjoy it. I imagine Matt running around in his silver gear playing impossible solos on his guitar – Dom air-playing the drums, and Chris, well... being Chris, headbanging. They love visuals and effects, and would make good use of the three minutes to perfect camera angles, smoke and pyro effects... I'm getting too excited just by thinking of it. Nice tags, btw. Dee3Dee
I don't get arguments like this – It's like you 'give up' when a band reach a certain popularity. What's wrong about reaching out to the world? It doesn't make their music any less their music. No, it's more the fact that ESC has very little to do with music. It's all about the show and presentation, which is essentially The Resistance Tour in a nutshell. Muse did enough damage this tour, participating in the ESC and pandering to a crowd who most likely wouldn't understand them anyway is just a waste of time and would only be embarassing. Hat
Selling out and becoming popular isn't the same thing. Getting popular for your music is great. Making music to be popular is not.
Jetro
What if they were to release a new album at the time of ESC, and wrote another song to promote it? Getting popular for your music is great. Making music to be popular is not. I think it's a mix of those two, really. For most bands/artists. Dee3Dee
I think I heard somewhere that participants aren't allowed to play instruments live during the final. They never do. Look closely at any performance and you'll see that they're faking it. All about the presentation.
Jetro
I think I heard somewhere that participants aren't allowed to play instruments live during the final. I'm still amazed that many people have yet to realise it. All the songs sound exactly the same, live or studio. That ought to be a major hint. Dee3Dee: Not necessarily everyone is faking it, some really play, although it isn't heard over the backing track. (Rybak, Turkey & Russia 08, etc.)

feeling.free
Dima Bilan it was bad enough they let him participate twice! I guess everyone got scared he'd be there for the third time if he didn't win and gave Russia a bunch of 12's I always thought Eurovision was about new and relatively young artists.. And I see why no one takes it seriously in the UK, the country has to participate every year and there's no escaping it
