  1. that looks gorgeous, I'm jelly! I wish more shops here in Texas carried Cort/Mansons Yeah I agree, I think I'd just slap a Holy Diver in there though if I got it. One for Muse, one for Sludge metal
  2. Yes, just replace it. Also could maybe use a cleaning, so try that first...though I'm not sure exactly how to go about that This happened with my custom I made, and it would always only play both pickups at once rather than actually switching them. Replaced it and it was fine.
  3. Been a while since I posted guys, but the rousing discussion of MBC-1 dings has shown me the way back Mine has quite a few on the back of the neck and some on the headstock as well as a a patch where the matt finish has worn off (my sweatand hand placement mostly) by the volume knob and right by the lower horn. Now the biggest thing that's happened recently is that those terrible pots finally broke on me. Well the volume at least. So now, because I didn't measure correctly and realize I needed a longer shaft pot, I have to deal with not having one there to fiddle with (which is a-ok, I rarely do) and just have a new working one hidden away in the cavity, always on 10. Also I turned the tone knob from treble roll-off to bass roll-off... Or I think I did, the MBC-1 is wired way differently than I had thought it would be, while also NOT being wired that differently...? picture spoiled for potential gore and crimes against MOC humanity, though personally I don't care about having a beat up guitar with dings and stuff. Character and all that jazz
  4. I like it just fine same here actually, I'm saving up for a trip to Nashville so hopefully after or as a Bday present I'll get it for myself. Hell I like my black one so much I might just sell some other gear to get the purchase
  5. I have the same issue. Cleartone and Elixirs have helped make them last about a month or so, which is FAR longer than D'addario's (even though I LOVE the sound of fresh ones) and makes them just not economically viable. Been meaning to try out the coated D'addarios however, I hear they're good Also been gone a while so I got lots of catching up to do with threads here, Jazzfest was 2muchfun. RHCP is insane to see live.
  6. I'm so interested, but the ONLY reason I dont think it can for me is because I perfer a slow fall for the OctDown riff but a fast one for the OctUps. just me tho Probably gonna give in to the GAS for it tho
  7. I don't know how you guys tap with your index at all, it's so foreign to me. I remember tryin it out and everything sounded so off because of it. different strokes I guess, as long as iy sounds good who cares
  8. I know this is late but coming from someone who taps a lot (I play a lot of PtH:$) I've taken it to be easier to hold the pick normally, and using the middle finger (and the ring finger if necessary which is often the case for protest) to be honest though, it's most useful if you are going from playing to tapping relatively quickly. I'll never be able to hold the pick in my hand then produce it like I see Matt do live when he's playing reapers. I've tried and I always end up dropping it or something:facepalm:
  9. I feel so left out, Only seen them live once because I was lucky enough to win tickets . The only song I wish I could see a live version of is Coma but I don't think it has or will be played live. one day I'll be able to attend each show!
  10. What kid of tape and where did ya get it? Also after messing around with a bunch of different kinds of strings on the MBC-1, I've settled - Cleartone 10s are the best I've felt and heard.
  11. Truth. I'm such a consumer whore because I know for a fact I'll end up buying the MBC-1RS but the problem is do I buy it before or after my Eastwood airline I want to buy later in the year Jack whites guitar has been a huge GAS for me since god knows when, and this is basically it.
  12. depends, I put one in my talman for 7 bucks - that being just the wire and button. Making one and wiring it isnt hard but I'm gonna assume that companies consider labor etc etc. Kind of a shame really, I think I'd take a 30-40$ decrease in price for no killswitch. ...That being said I feel like the odd one out and enjoy the kill button sometimes though I've said it before it comes in handy for when I play stuff....EXCEPT when I'm tapping. I def agree though, it looks a little out of place on the RS model... I've gotten so used to seeing the top horn bare, unlike before when it felt like every inch of matts guitar was used in some way. The TOM bridge I get though, I've never been a fan of those personally, but I certainly don't want them to stick a floyd or anything else bulky (since I played for the majority of my years on a floyd) Jesus christ, that's insane. I think I'll have better luck just turning my Matt Black into a glitter from someone around town, jeez.
  13. I was checking Manson's store site Might put the money down, I'm excited. EDIT: jeez, 70 bucks over the black MBC-1? Was that the original price of the MBC-1 or what EDIT 2: I feel even dumber because I remembered it was 499. Damn, Now I have to ask myself if the extra 100 american dollars is worth it for the paintjob....
  14. I feel like I'm one of the only people who doesnt give a hoot about the logo, but I do agree it looks better without it. If I cared about every logo any of my guitars had I'd never have bought any of them, I just care about how it plays and sounds for the most part also am I blind or is the MBC-1RS not showing up on the site? I might just be blind... does it show the final price for it as well?
  15. Well alright! looks like I might have to... Does the area feel much different? I might have a go at it with some finer grit sandpaper
  16. Here's how I hold my guitar when I'm playing, I play while standing primarily so it's almost the opposite for me, I often am lost when sitting down as to whats more comfortable The only difference is now I play with the guitar at about the orange line - up from the red line I marked. I tap often so its a little different for me, but it's what my left hand is most comfortable at when riffing and playing. Doesn't look the coolest but function over form. Also, it's literally a comfort thing about everything, yeah? dont force yourself to be uncomfortable, just try out a bunch of different ways to hold/play/fret and from there do what is easiest and lets you play better. kinda a generic thing to say, but it's true - 60% of your tone is from your playing style and how you fret/ and pick the strings. Getting your timing right like Matthijs says will help immensely too
  17. Modding is half the fun of having a guitar! I'm 90% sure mine is just on the fritz because I play too heavy also on technique, you're doing better than I was after what, only under a year of playing? so thats great! just adding on to what Jon said (since his post is pretty much what I would have said) is it also looked like your left hand was straining to keep the thumb behind the neck. While this is proper classical technique, it's not required as heavily otherwise, and it's mostly about comfort - Though it's very handy for long stretches. Make sure your left hand is relaxed, the playing felt and also looked a little too rigid and robot like.
  18. thats what's happening to mine too the only problem with mine is that my hands were gifted to me by Jotun, so they're big - when I get energetic with playing I'll touch the pot and the sound will cut temporarily. Need to get a CTS pot with split shaft so I can install it without feeling bad....
  19. If you give me a day or two, I might be able to get a good friend of mine from the old UG gang to draw a quick diagram up of it, he's quite the electrical afficionado and has helped me many times. by the way, has anyone figured out what songs Matt uses the MBC-1 on in the record? or do we all just assume he either used only his Mansons or just only very specifically used it for a couple parts?
  20. My bad You should be golden. I didn't use a soldering guide, so I would google around, but maybe one of the other older members have one. I was just told to heat the components and not the solder directly - but I also only half follow that rule which is heresy but still works! What do you have the push pull for? neck pickup? I'd help with everything but that since I'm extremely unfamiliar with how to wire push/pull.
  21. If all shes doing is installing pickups she shouldn't need to replace wire, assuming the pick ups are new - but yeah if replacing pots too it shouldn't be too bad to get a foot or so of wire. I had assumed she was only switching out pickups at the moment
  22. I'm happy I don't need to anymore since I got a new practice amp So you're liking it? I coulda sworn I heard some tones from the new one at 2016 NAMM and immediately was turned off.
  23. Got my EVH low friction pot today. Turns out its a solid shaft so I gotta buy knobs FOR it I didnt even think to look because I'm so used to not needing to. Guess I'll install it for now, even though it looks terrible....
