  1. I'm gonna agree with Jobby and say this will likely be a very polarizing record. Though I think everyone will appreciate Muse trying something completely new after a very by the numbers Drones (which had a few great tracks regardless). I loved the better pop songs of the last 12 years or so (SMBH, UD, Dead Inside, Panic Station, IBTY, Etc) and I think Muse has a decent knack of keeping them fairly ageless which I appreciate. I hope the unheard pop tracks on this one can do the same(because god knows SH won't).

  2. Wew finally some fun. I've gotta say, I wasn't at all hyped for this album but those clips did get me going. It looks like this will definitely be more of Muse experimenting rather than going through the motions for the first time since 2nd Law, hopefully it ages better than 2nd Law did. As far as the snippets go:

Algorithm: Man that electronic bass drum sounds booming, I love the tension it seems to build up. Super excited about that one.

The Void: I mean it sounds like Kavinsky who I really like, not much to tell about it other than the 80s style but considering synthwave almost never does me wrong i'm excited. Pretty much exactly what I wanted

Propaganda: Holy shit the robot voice and the verses are super jarring, but you know what? I fucking love it. I love Prince, and this is so on the nose. Matt sounds sexual in this.

Get Up And Fight: Man it already sounds like the cheesy Queen song, not excited.

Break It To Me: I'm.....curious? It's clearly calling Bulls on Parade for the instrumentals but the Justin Timberlake comparisons for the vocals are apt. This could end up good or bad, I have no idea.

Blockades: Sounds fucking epic, like a rally to battle or something. Excited for that one.

  3. Goddamn I wanna play this riff every fucking day of my life. Not a huge fan of the chorus because of the backing vocals(wish they would stop with the "ooohs" and "aahhhs"), but I love the verses. Is this gonna be Muse's 'After Laughter'?

  4. Its not a bad song but I'm still gonna have to moan.

I wanted them to do something out of the blue with these new releases because Drones was a let down. They said it would be heavy and it wasn't. But from what I've heard of this apparent "upcoming album" so far has been such a let down as well. I heard out of three songs, one would be heavy. Which one is meant to be heavy? Or did they change their mind?

I still look forward to the new album (as always) but I certainly won't be going to a rip off UK tour. It's going to be full of douche bags. 2nd Law tour was bad enough.

Thought Contagion is heavy in comparison to 2nd decade Muse standards.

  5. You know, Drones had its faults but at least it had a few tracks that are challenging listens. Reapers, the Handler, The Globalist, they fight back a bit. TC did that a bit. Dig Down and Something Human are soooo inconsequential. Its barely engaging, and I think it's down to the structure of that songs. It's so ABABABB.

  6. Was at the show. Matt sounded strong tonight and though it was the standard set the performances were very good. Dig Down isn't a good opener though, and A New Kind of Kick definitely brought weird vibes with the crowd.

    EDIT:

Damn, maybe it was just the quality of the periscope but Matt actually did so much better with The Handler vocals tonight. He actually belted the end and then went into this extended falsetto moan thing. And the falsettos before that sounded pretty on-point. Still wasn't perfect, but he at least made the effort this time.

I was in the crowd and I was definitely impressed by Matt's vocals in the Handler today. I was worried he's stumble after playing PiB but he nailed the falsettos.
