  1. Another thing is that it's the first airplay single in years not to feature Queen influences at all.

Or George Micheal's, if you allow me.

You're right. As Tjet and other people have said, I also felt that the song was rather original, especially since Muse has served us a lot of uninspired stuff since T2L (included). Here I might not be completely sure about some bits, but I'm okay with that because the song sounds more original to me than self-plagarism, rip-offs or pointless attempts at various genres. I feel that they had something to say musically, and not that they just put out another song because it's their job and they gotta eat.

Maybe I'm just not picking up the obvious "references" like I did for Queen or U2, but I think chants are common enough to not be seen as a rip-off or "tribute".

And I'm feeling this strange Musey atmosphere of the years 2003-2005 in this song. It kind of reminds me of Dracula Mountain with a crazy circus/rollercoaster vibe. I know it sounds like bullshit but I swear it's true.

Matt's conspiracy-era stuff got him pretty close to Alex Jones. It's a reputation that has never really gone away.

Thanks. I was expecting more than a young man's conspiracy phase but okay.

I'm interested that the 'bitten by' parts seem to be so popular. I think that part is what turned me off the most. It's so repetitive and such an annoying lyric.

I'm loving it, especially the piano part. The first time I heard it I had one of these "yeah that's Muse!!!" moments which I never had since the return of the falsetto in Survival in 2012.

  3. The line is unbelievably clumsy and out of place. That it made it into the final song is even crazier. It's way too careless and blunt for such a sensitive topic. That being said I honestly don't see room for malicious interpretation and it seems clear to me that it's a terrible attempt at denouncing fascism.

I'm not aware of any acquaintanceship between Matt and the alt-right. I know right-wing politicians have used Muse songs but that the band usually turned down their requests. Can someone direct me to stuff showing Matt getting "in bed with the alt-right"? I googled it but couldn't find anything.

Edit: Unless by alt-right you mean conspiracy theories?

  4. I think it has great live potential. Too many woahs for sure, but I like the beaten by bit and the riff. I don’t know if it’s my recording or the mix but it sounds rather messy.

Some parts are cringey but I’d be lying if I said there there aren’t things that I like about it. It’s also strange to hear and judge a stand-alone single without the context of an album. I feel it distorts my expectations.

If Matt does the piano bit live it could be really cool; i wonder how they’ll do the backing vocals. Could be great or shit but anyway I’m longing to hear it.

  5. 日本人ですか?

I wonder how many Japanese and Korean songs I'm understanding while blissfully ignorant of the lyrics. I like Dir en grey a lot but apparently their lyrics are very divisive.

I'm not. I just study in Tokyo, sorry to disappoint you. :p

  6. I wonder how native speakers of English deal with the lyrics sometimes. As a non-native speaker I find it easy to just ignore how bad certain lines sound (not the Rio one though), so maybe that makes Muse more easily enjoyable for us.

  7. In what way is a legit question asking "what was awesome about it" a snarky comment? :erm:

Because it comes after countless other posts where you made it clear that you think pretty much everything Muse has done over the last years is crap and beyond rescue, including the Drones tour. So I doubt you were expecting to exchange views on the merits of the tour, and just lowkey saying that nothing was awesome about it. Maybe I interpreted your post the wrong way and you were honestly asking. If so I apologise for the misplaced remark.

But still, even if the post I quoted wasn't the most obvious example of that, I don't think you can deny that almost all your posts on Main Muse consist in slagging the band off for a reason or another in every thread. We all talk shit about the band to some extent but when it's the only kind of stuff you post it's a bit annoying. Idk, imagine you're talking about a band with a friend and they tell you they don't like it; fair enough. Now if every day they come up and remind you that they don't like it, you're most likely gonna find it annoying. I just wish you'd try and contribute to Main Muse in other ways than only negative comments. Maybe I'm being oversensitive, idk.

  8. What was awesome about it?

You have made so many comments like this that literally everyone on this board is aware that you didn't like Muse's recent output and tours. It's okay, we know that you have more sophisticated tastes, no need to worry about that.

And that's just fine, no one is trying to convert you. But mate, what do you expect? Of course this board is filled with fans that may have liked what you did not. Why do you feel obliged to post these snarky comments all the time? We all know this isn't calling for a real answer and you're not gonna be convinced whatever they might say, because that's like the 1000th time. Cut them/us some slack please.
