    Album Eight: Simulation Theory

    I'm optimistic about the album. I somehow came to like Dig Down quite a lot, I find the first part relaxing and while I used to not like the woahs, hearing Matt do them live completely changed my perspective and I now really enjoy them even in the studio version. :chuckle:

     

    So I've got 4 songs that I like so far and SH that isn't bad but that I don't really care for, and there has usually been a song like that on every album.

    Pressure : 7.5

    Thought Contagion : 7

    Dig Down : 6.5 or 7

    Something Human : 5.5

    I kind of agree with him. What makes these songs epic is their sound and they would be pretty generic or boring if you took away the electric guitar, synth etc. We like acoustic renditions but that's partly (I would say mostly) because we already like the song in itself, I'm pretty sure that if we had heard the acoustic version first we wouldn't have cared for it much.

     

    For instance, I love piano Cave, but if I'm honest it's mostly because I just love Cave and I have it somewhere in my head when I hear the piano version. I think if I'd heard the piano version first I wouldn't have given it a second listen.

     

    And yeah, PIB would simply not be PIB without the fuzz and the power it has as it is. Same with New Born, Bliss, etc. I can't even imagine what Micro Cuts or Showbiz would sound like.

    Really liked these performances, even if Pressure needs a bit more polishing. TDS sounded quite powerful and SH more direct and natural than the studio version; the chest-voiced pre-chorus was suprising but not bad at all, this might be a good way to bring some variety in the song itself by alternating between head voice and chest voice

     

    Edit: Matt playing the Stockholm-ish post-chorus guitar part was amazing and so powerful but the transition into the second verse could be smoother

    If you signed up with the no purchase thing, you should have got an email confirming you’re included. I got one the day it was announced saying I’ll be getting my code on Tuesday.

     

    Edit: I also got a confirmation email for registering back when I first signed up for it back in August

     

    Sorry, what do you mean by "the no purchase thing"? Are you saying you don't need to preorder anything from the store to get early access?

    Listening to the instrumental and really liking it like that.

     

    When I listened to it the first time my headphones were not completely plugged in and I could only hear the instrumental and the backing vocals, and I think the chorus sounded amazing and more powerful than it really is.
