Wonder if Assassin will feature again tonight. I'm thinking hysteria will be back with CE in piano slot, Map and bliss again
If that's the rotations I'm gonna regret attending.
-
I have a bootleg.
Hearing the assassin chants:
"I saw that little hashtag via, today... I forgot to, ah, can't remember how it goes... (jam intro)... have to learn assassin next time, I can't remember it, dont want to fuck it up now.. (jam second riff)... we dont have the funny bass with the weird white string coming out of it... how does it go? (jam intro)... can we do, like, a metal version? Maybe we'll work it out for the next time, okay? [inaudible, haven't practiced it?] we've practiced this one though!"
then US starts
so yeah
fair to believe him really...
-
Geez, with backlash over playing Assassin, imagine what happens if they actually bust out Showbiz or Defector this tour.
"They played Defector!!"
"Should have played it in Brussels those cocksucking wankers!!!"
They didn't promise either of those songs to an audience of 2000 people, though, so...
-
so when would be a good time to play it? 2 weeks later is fair? 3 weeks? not in the UK? Go back to Belfast?
A week ago, like they promised. I was at that Ulster Hall show and considered getting a ticket and going home just in case. Thats how sincere it seemed, you know?
-
This is the night I'm not going to. Seriously hope I picked the right night to go to (I could only do one of the 4th or 5th London show) so no AP and no Assassin would actually be a good result for me lol.
-
Sound is immaculate with earplugs, both in seating and standing second row. Could hear both the big picture and the small stuff, like guitar noodling or vocal stuff. Your milage may vary, especially if you dont wear them.
-
Posted these in the tour thread but gonna post em here too. My videos from tonight of the interesting/rotational songs, with amazing quality of both audio and video (especially considering it was taken on a phone... Albeit a £700 phone.)
Sunburn
Handler
Map
Take a Bow
-
Uploaded some of the song videos I took. Apologies for shaky cam at points, was holding one handed and not looking at the screen for a lot of the time I was taking these. On mobile so dunno how to embed them:
Sunburn
Handler
Map
Take a Bow
All in all I'm amazed how good these sound and look, considering I was just using a stock iPhone 6S with no equipment. I've heard worse official releases ffs!
-
Dildrone crashed into the stage/crowd, lol
-
Got a good video of Sunburn. Hope the audio doesn't sound like potato. Also, if anyone's concerned about it, you can't actually see Matt playing piano from the microphone side of the piano wing (if that makes sense).
-
I've seen each of those three twice and I think AP is the best live tbh, with Sunburn very close behind.
Hopefully AP turns up at one of my next three shows anyway - or they might surprise us all and play more than one piano song... Lol.
-
Sunburn wouldn't be unwelcome but I've had it twice and personally would root for AP or USoE - suspect sunburn is the best of the three live though
-
So... my two cents, having come out of the gig-
- the scale of the stage, and how it's used, really are impressive. It has a lot of little flakes, none overused, all adding to the overall impression. One of the best I've ever seen.
- the crowd was really impressive. the casuals loved plug in baby, starlight etc. On other songs like Handler or Citizen they were soaking it in more I think, which isn't bad either.
- moshing looked really difficult considering how condensed the GA areas are. Wasn't easy to see how much jumping was happening but there were a lot of fists pumping at least!
- the Setlist. dear god the Setlist. that was one of the worst on paper and easily the worst in person. Saved only by Citizen for me on uniqueness (Handler, Mercy and a few other staples are good but I'm gonna see them four more times - the rotational songs are what I'm judging this on)
- band was on top form. Bellamy struggled a bit on all the predictable highs but being fair I've never heard him nail Stockholm and I'm not too bothered whether he hits madness or whatever, considering how bland the song as a whole is in that case. Musically, couldn't fault them.
- hullaballoons were fun during (I think) starlight. Nice moment of crowd/band fun.
- is it just me or does the merchandise always look awful? I wouldn't wear any of it. Can't think of any time I would, either. Very weird.
-
Hmmm. Dear oh dear.
EDIT: get off your phone and just enjoy the show
Lol. Subjective innit, I enjoyed the hell outta UD and Mercy. It's possible to do both! Left during Harmonica anyway.
-
Globalist overly pompous and annoying live, definitely just ten wasted minutes there. Should leave and beat the rush at this point!
-
At Manchester, just before Uprising began I saw Matt holding the mic and I couldn't see the guitar on his back, and, having not seen where UD had previously been played in the set, I thought for one horrible moment that UD would be played and TAB would be dropped.
I could've still been having nightmares now
I'm not gonna lie, when I realised UD meant no TAB I was very sad. Though this is why I'm doing four more, I guess... Also the crowd gets perplexingly into They Will Not Control Us, they're extremely animated, even up in the seats. Bizarre.
-
Really?
Yeah! It's a massive song live and I always really enjoy hearing it.
-
This is my fault, I really wanted UD :/
-
Madness reaaaally needs dropped, it's so out of place after Dead Inside earlier in the set.
Also CE was absolutely fantastic, obviously.
-
Sitting here at the O2, the scale of the stage really does blow you away from afar. Interesting that a large section of the upper tier is curtained off, also.
-
Hey, I'm going tomorrow - I won't complain if they get that bottom 4 tonight and we get the top 4 tomorrow. Would prefer AP, but Bliss/MOTP/Take a Bow is a bigger draw.
Although I have suspicion I'm going to get Resistance and/or UD. Yippee.
Top 4 was London 1, highly unlikely they'll repeat all of them - other residencies got scattered rares like Butterflies or Sunburn mixed in too so you never know!!!!
-
Prediction for tonight:
Out: Bliss, Map, Feeling Good, Take a Bow
In: plug, resistance, apocalypse please, undisclosed
Hope I'm wrong lol
-
It's more the performances for me tbh. I wouldn't expect much more than Map, Bliss, Psycho, Reapers and TAB at an arena show (sadly) but the gigs where the band looks disinterested are a bummer no matter what imo. Supermassive's one of my favourite things they've done but it sounds completely dead at this point, and Matt looks the same while playing it. Same for Hysteria and Uprising imo.
Well that for me is a result of the setlist problem; they have too many songs they depend on, and they all sound like shit live. SMBH, Starlight, Madness, TIRO, Uprising and KOC don't all need played - they could easily put SMBH and Starlight into a Black Holes Single rotation, put Uprising and KOC (and that FUCKING harmonica) into a Set/Show closer rotation, and put Madness in the bin, and then they'd have three slots to bring back fan favourites or even just lesser played singles or whatever. I think the really annoying thing is how relatively easy and obvious these changes are, and how little motivation there is to do even the first thing about it. But PIB, SS and Hysteria are all on rotation now so at least these things aren't necessarily sacred cows.
-
These setlists are making me feel like I'm sincerely wasting both time and money seeing this band five times next week.

Here at the O2 just as phantogram finished and got second from the barrier on the piano end. I love this stage setup.
Also the security guy ten feet away has a Setlist and I couldn't see what was on it. FML. such a cruel tease.
Also also is it worth staying for Knights at all?
