  1. Ya, I get how to do it now Just a bit awkward on my fingers for some reason
  2. Just realized what you said, at first I misread and thought you were saying what was said before (1st finger on 8th fret, barre with ring finger across B, G and D) Your method is somewhat easier, but it's still gonna take some time to feel natural like other chords
  3. And you can form the chords that way quickly? In time with the song? To me it's fiddly and a squeeze
  4. Am I just being really stupid here? Whenever I try and barre for these chords, the barring finger seems to deaden the 8th fret e string, they're like root 5th Major barre chords, only the fingering is reversed, which makes it hard for me
  5. I did try that, it's dead awkward, and I'm not a total chord n00b, I have no problem with barre chords, is it just one of those things that will take time to get down?
  6. So it's just me then >.< I just find my 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers get squished a lot when forming those chords, so much so it's damn near impossible to form them in time, do you finger them like this? (from e to d) 1st finger, 2nd finger, 3rd finger, 4th finger?
  7. So, I've been learning Invincible lately, and parts of it confuse me, or rather, the tabs do: 1. In the 2nd verse, is it just power chords? One tab says so, and the only decent cover of the song on Youtube does too (I think) 2. The 2nd chorus, the chords that the tabs indicate seem impossible to form: E|-----------8---------| |-----------10--------| B|-----10--10-10---| |-----12--12--12---| G|---10--10-----10-| |---12--12------12-| D|-10-----------------| |-12------------------| A|---------------------| |-----------------------| E|---------------------| |-----------------------| Is it just me, or are those chords not fingerable (Yes, that's totally a word ) by regular human hands?
  8. It usually takes quite a while for backing tracks to start roaming around the internet, Supremacy's is only around a year old, so I doubt there will be anything floating around already. I did a rough cover of Supremacy with a MIDI keyboard for the orchestral parts, sure, it won't sound exactly like the real deal, but it's better than nothing. Obviously you won't be able to work out every last violin, trumpet etc, but if you really need an orchestral backing track, you should be able to work out enough to get by
  9. Haha I meant besides the obvious Whammy option, but I suppose you're right in saying it's pointless buying a synth just for a more realistic sounding MOTP sound. Is there anything else worth noting Matt uses the Clavia for? If i was to buy one, or something similar, what else would it be able to do, that would justify buying a synth?
  10. Aha, I'm not too familiar with his live setup besides the obvious (whammy, FF etc) How much are they? If they're uber expensive is there a decent, cheaper alternative that can be used for MOTP?
  11. You saying he uses the Clavia live?
  12. This might be a dumb question, but I don't suppose there is a VST synth modeled on the Clavia is there? And which vocoder did you use to do this?
  13. How does Matt get the MOTP effect live? My guitar teacher reckons he mimes to a backing track, whilst it isn't hard to mime to, that's ridiculous as the tone is different for almost every performance. So, considering Matt doesn't just settle for using Guitar Rig/Whammy like us regular folk, what does he do?
  14. Say what. The effect isn't Matt running his guitar through 2 synths? He said that's how he got the effect in an interview..
  15. That sound is kinda horrible, but could be desired in certain situations I guess, if you're looking for that disgusting glitchy sound..
  16. Never really tried Whammying chords, not in a funky way, I've used pitch shifting to change them long term in a song, but not for wankery like Matt does. The 5 sounds more like my kinda thaang, what's the price range on 'em? And I hate to be buggy, but what's either of your verdicts on the tone in that video? As if it is mainly the Bad Monkey, I'd probably go for it when I start getting my pedals
  17. Whammy 4 doesnt work with chords? in what way? Is it true the 5 has no dry output? What's different with the DT? I use my Spider's additional (non-amp) EQ a lot, so I've grown to have EQ quite high up on my priority list. There is a cover of MOTP on Youtube, in which I love the guitar tone, the guy says he uses a Digitech Bad Monkey, I cannot quite tell, but would you say the Bad Monkey overdrive is the key to this tone? Also, why does everyone seem so fixed on having a tuner? I can tune fine by ear..
  18. Why does barely anyone on here have a Blackstar? A guy on youtube who does a lot of decent Muse covers uses a Blackstar, so that gets me leaning in that direction.. pedal wise what do you advise for a basic setup? I just want decent overdrive, fuzz, whammy (4, 5, or DT?) EQ, delay, and a phaser
  19. Don't really know much about amps, my Spider IV is the only amp I've had besides the 15w practice amp I got with my first guitar. I want something that can do decent clean tones, but also whack out heavy-ass distortion.
  20. Lol yeah, hence me saying if you wanted to pay for software, but who does that? I never knew they were going so cheap, sadly all my cash is going on a decent setup (new amp, few compulsory pedals) as I'm tired of my Spider IV..
  21. Ya, though if you want to pay for your software used for sequencing it, that's more money. And can you really get a whammy for £100ish? I was looking for one a while ago and it was nearer the £200 mark..
  22. Hmm, it could be a simple sequencer if you aren't looking for the whole deal, like, I can get the MOTP effect going on Guitar Rig with just an analogue sequencer and a pitch pedal. Not Both pitch-shifting patterns used in the song, but still, the basic setup. If it was purely for sequenced pitch-shifting, the pedal could just have a screen showing the positions of the individual sliders that control the stage and pitch. Something like that could be reasonably priced, though I guess it may turn out to be a one trick pony, largely for small budget Musers.
  23. Just googled it, it's named a harmonist pedal, it doesn't look significantly better than most other intelligent harmonizers, certainly not capable of running an MOTPesque effect all by its lonesome. Matt or someone really should bring out a pedal that does the MOTP effect, so people don't have to fork out on a Whammy and Cubase, or Guitar Rig etc.
  24. Ah, I was a bit confused there, so this Boss pedal can do a pitch-shifting effect, all on its own, similar to the one in BF and MOTP? And I swore I read somewhere that Matt didn't actually coin this effect, that others have used it before him. I don't have any evidence either way, but I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere..
  25. aha, mybad, how did I misinterpret it? And did he really use a Boss pedal for Big Freeze? The effect sounds almost identical in nature to MOTP
