    God forbid anyone has a different opinion to you. As someone who bought the album the day it came out and pretty much shitpost on most things Muse do these days, I find the above amusing. I can't really tell if you're doing a meta joke of Citizen Erased lyrics or if you're just really stressed about something and using this as a pressure valve. 

    I have to say I'm really happy we finally have someone who witnessed the recording of OoS to tell us what really went down and that they people who literally wrote and recorded the album are lying to us because they have a 20 year grudge against a synthesiser track. Are you really sure you're not doing a meta joke of the Citizen Erased lyrics, it would be epic if you were.

    In all seriousness, there are a couple of reasons. For a start, Origin is my favourite album of all time and one of my favourite things in life full stop, has been for 12 years now. I’m naturally hesitant to say the least about the idea of it being significantly retouched in any way, rather than a simple remaster (which we already had and was unnecessary but harmless and fine). Especially when, after listening, I already reeeeally don’t like the result after one song. And, like I said before, personally I don’t really like the way it’s being billed so far. I do get the vibe that it’s being marketed as an “updated” version of the album that’s how it ‘should’ve’ sounded. Yes, the original will always be there, but is that now gonna get left in the dust with this album’s changes becoming the ‘canon’ Origin, especially for the band and younger fans? Is it gonna change live performances of the songs? When I talk about loving something from the record with another fan, are they actually gonna be thinking/talking about the newer version?

    Basically, this is something I’m incredibly attached to and I’m getting a bad vibe atm that it’s being somewhat invalidated, or at least at risk of it, by a very different band who wanna retroactively mould it to fit something closer to what they would make now.

    If there wasn't the word remix in the title, you might have a point. I've seen other bands re-release albums with different tracklists substituting b-sides for album tracks. There's not even a cd release of this so I don't see this an attempt to rewrite history. The original still exists as something you buy and listen to. The marketing spiel is just that, spiel. It's just another cash crab to keep the coffers from emptying out before the next album. I've lived with this album since the day it was released, so I'm happy to see the band muck about with it just as they had been when they toured it live where the songs seemed to change from gig to gig.

  3. I quite like it as s an alternative. Bass has more oopmh and the vocal layers are a lot clearer. Looking forward to hearing the rest. There's a weird arpeggio like keyboard track in the last chorus of Darkshines that gets drowned out, so I'm looking forward to see if it has been restored in this version. Not sure why some folk are throwing their toys out of the pram, the original version still exists and is commercially available. Just a shame it costs £300 to listen to the remaster because the band bundled it only with a limited supply boxset....


  4. I for one am looking forward to hearing what genre they'll half heartedly dabble in. The last four albums they kind of set out a theme but never fully committed to them. In fairness, there's only so far you can take the idea of an album based around the Stranger Things intro. Muse were always a band born out of 90s influences, that's the kind of retro they should have went for.

  5. Glad I spent £4:50 renting this rather than spending £100+ on tickets and travel . Simulation Theory pretty much stands as an indictment on Muse's stadium tours. It just seems like more effort went into Matt's jacket design than the music itself.  

    So many songs are now just Matt walking around stage pretending to be a popstar. Matt does really have zero stage presence when his guitar is removed. Watching Matt slap hands with the front row while being minded by his handler is just next level cringe you'd expect from your one directions of the world. 

    The visuals here are just boring as well. When Matt finally does something cool with his guitar, the camera is more interested in the stage extras doing distracting coordinated dance moves. Also Murph looked so inanimate in this movie, I've seen a few YouTube clips where we seemed to move with more fluidity. Not sure why this is letterboxed either, a Muse show is something where you want to use the whole screen. This probably should have been 60 FPS to give a bit more motion. And I really hope they didn't spend too much money on cgi Matt Bellamy pretending to be Harry Potter taking on Murph because that looked fake and cringe as shit. And somehow they want people to fork out £120 for a package with extra tat. I can't help but think of Muse as business people rather than musicians. 

    One enjoyable part was he video for the Void  because there was no visuals, no dancers and no fucking backing tracks.

    Muse have hinted/promised at a lot of things that haven’t come to pass or have taken a long time to come to fruition. A lot of it gets forgotten because that’s life and it’s very rarely a big deal. There was an initial demand for Zepp to be released because it meant pro-shots of modern Agitated, Yes Please, Futurism, Fury in its original key and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, combined with the fact that it was a very unique show because of all these happening at once and the 2nd encore. In the years since, we’ve had all that (bar Fury) and more from other shows, plus Futurism. So, if we’re not missing out on anything, what’s even the issue? You’re not paying for anything, they’re just putting a special performance of a few songs out to keep fans entertained. They don’t owe it to us, nor do any of the other artists or people trying to keep people entertained atm, so why feel the need to point the finger and say “pfff, well x person did more”? Of all the times and cases, this really isn’t the one to whinge about. Full gigs or no, it’s more unique/special than the Radiohead content you reckon they should be aspiring to anyway. It’s literally the only thing left from that gig that we haven’t seen anything like before. If you’re yearning for Micro Cuts, Dead Star et al, Youtube’s a click away.

    The answer to all your questions is that this is a Muse forum and if we can't complain about inconsequential things here, where can we go (I refuse to go to Reddit). My original post was pretty ineffectual before you paid it more attention than it honestly deserved. I could argue more but I never intended to troll someone into getting so irate.  I apologise I've upset you and will think not just twice but three times when posting here.

    It was Tom Kirk that hinted/promised that the full gig would be released. That's where the expectation came from so this release is a step down from that.  I'm not sure if it's true to say that fans have been explicitly asking for just the 2nd encore for 7 years either. And yes there have been times I've been underwhelmed by gifts and as I've done here, not pushed it directly into the givers face.

    So you say that £120 is not exactly extortionate but then say £60 is massively expensive. Odd... My point is that a lot of fans were priced out of the collection due to its marketing strategy especially those in less prosperous parts of the world. Personally I can easily pay £120 but I recognise I'm lucky. £120 is a lot more expensive for fans in Brazil or Mexico than it is the UK or US.  It's not unreasonable to gripe that Muse should have released OOM the same way they released the last four albums, with a tiered release structure. This gives greater access to fans, and  it puts more money back into Muse which rewards the hard work that went into the release. The only people who would lose out are people like me who would have one less thing to moan about.

  9. The problem with OOM could have easily been fixed by also releasing a CD only package for £60 at most. Not everyone is interested in coloured vinyls or paying for them just to get access to the new material. This is something that other bands do for such releases (and Muse do with their new releases), so I'm hoping Muse or their marketing come to their senses and re-issue a less extravagant package in the near future.

    Muse aren't obligated to put anything out, ever. I get that. But as a fan, I'm sick of Muse missing open goals.  I agree it's not really valid comparing to other bands, but Radiohead have been on a roll lately making their music and art available for all via their Public Library, whereas Muse seem to throw out a single pro shot (or less) once a year and puts Origin of Muse behind an expensive package and limited release. After 19 years it would be nice to get more than a bone and I'm more interested in Muse's music than laughing at them wearing funny sunglasses ... In terms of gratitude, I express it by buying albums and attending gigs, not by refusing to share my opinion when I don't like what they're doing, on a board that they might only occasionally browse. It's hard to excited about a Pro Shot of Panic Station...

    Plus it's a discussion board, if people didn't moan, and others moan and people moaning, this board would be dead...oh wait...

    My memory was that the first part of the gig got more attention given the setlist included Fury, Futurism, Microcuts, Hyper Music, Dead Star, Yes Please and Agitated. You can dress up Panic Station in costumes but it's still Panic Station...

    I wish I was a bigger Radiohead fan, they're getting regular uploads of full gigs into YouTube...

  14. I'm talking more about Music rather than physical media. 95% of fans aren't collectors so packaging the vinyls with the CDs have made them unaffordable for some. 

    Take account that hours after I made my post, Radiohead launched their public library sharing quite alot of music, videos, artwork for free which puts the creativity up front rather than the physical media with a scare supply. Nothing stops Muse from doing something similar.

  15. While I'm happy some new material has come out, I'm sort of disappointed by the lack of era specific live material. For those old enough to remember, Muse made their reputation as a live band before gaining critical or commercial success. 2000-2002 was the peak of their live performances, Matt ad-libbed like hell and was too young to worry about his voice,  and it's not reflected in this compilation bar from three or four Astoria 2000 songs.  Granted, a lot of this stuff is available on youtube but it would have been nice to have a properly mastered CD containing highlights from Eurocockenees de Belfort 2000, Bizarre 2000 and La Route Du Rock 2001, or even a DVD considering how expensive the boxset is.

    And no Plus in Baby acoustic? Come on!

    HAT, I meant the rest of OoS was recorded during late 2000 and early 2001, nothing less, nothing more. That time period.

    The recordings of Bliss and Plug in Baby are quite different to the live versions that preceded them, hence they were re-arranged in studio. Listen to PiB in the video I linked from late 2000, or even read the comments for that matter, it sounds like the album version, not what they had been playing for most of 2000 prior to the Bottril sessions. Yes, the band tried to capture their live sound for the OoS sessions but that's a different issue to how the songs are composed.

    I don't think we're disagreeing here but you're mis-interpreting a lot of things I've written.

  17. Okay here's the timeline (which is quite clear on the musewiki page for origin):

    October 2000, Muse go into the sudio with Bottrill. PiB, NB, DS, Bliss and possibly some other song, are recorded while the band were high on Mushrooms. Some songs like PiB and Bliss are re-arranged from the versions the band had being played live.
    Late October 2000, Muse go back on tour with PiB played with the OoS album arrangement rather than the showbiz tour arrangement.  
    Refer to: 

    Late 2000-Early 2001, Muse return to the studio with John Cornfield and remix (not re-record) the songs from the David Botttrill sessions owing too many overdubs and poor mixing. The rest of the album is recorded and mixed during this time.

    I honestly don't see where there is definitive proof of OoS demo's being left on the cutting room floor though I think it's a great shame there is no disc with the 2000 era live performances of OoS material but alas youtube has plenty of that material anyway.

  18. They are the recordings on OoS but different mixes with a couple of overdubs. The late 2000 live versions are based on these. You can find the club Quattro Gig on YouTube and listen for yourself.

    The other MM is  the 2nd single release which should be available somewhere on YouTube. There's also another take on one of the showbiz b-sides.

    For Bliss PiB and Newborn demos, there are numerous good quality live versions  widely available.  It's a shame the live versions aren't on the box set, I'd much prefered remastered versions of those as opposed to reading 2011.
