It is dumb that anyone can vote though. It should be restricted to just people who are going to the gig in question. Did the 2010 polls do that?
-
They already did a similar vote in 2010 that didn't do much because it was filled with standard setlist songs already. They had six years to figure out a new method.
I knew about the 2010 polls... I'm just hoping that in those 6 years they've learned to filter the hits out of the results (although ideally they would just leave them out of the list in the first place)
I WANT TO BELIEVE THAT THEY'VE LEARNED SOMETHING, OK :'(

> Fans complain
> Matt asks what Muse can do
> Fans say they could allow fans to pick songs for gigs
> Muse allow fans to pick songs for a gig
> Fans complain
I know this isn't the perfect way of doing it, but at least they're doing something. This is probably just the best they could come up with at short notice. Maybe they will even ignore the people voting for hits, or use this as a trial run for a similar (but better) system in the future.
People will probably still complain whatever the outcome though.
Edit: and to people complaining that Dead Star, Muscle Museum etc aren't on there, it's clearly just the songs they've played this year. Bit odd that there's no Sunburn, but maybe they just forgot that one. All of this is assuming that the thing is even real obvs.

Oh look, we're back in 2010. I'm interested to see how this plays out though, hopefully more successful than the ones in 2010...

An idea I came up with recently that I think would work pretty well would be to do voting in 2 stages.
Stage 1 (when the tour is announced): Fans pick 10 songs, say, from the band's entire discography, including the hits. The top 10 songs then become the staple songs for the tour. The band reveal which songs were chosen.
Stage 2 (a bit later): Fans with tickets to specific gigs are then allowed to pick 5 songs for each of the gig(s) they are attending, from the remaining pool of songs (minus the 10 staples). Then the top 5 voted songs for each gig get added to the setlist of that gig. The band can then fill in the rest of the setlist as they please.
This system would get rid of the worry of fans just voting for songs like Knights, Uprising etc etc as those songs would probably get 'voted out' in the first stage allowing for more deep cuts in the second stage. It also means the 'staples' actually somewhat reflect what the fans want to hear, not just the songs that arbitrarily 'have' to be played at every gig.

Execution Commentary should only really ever have been an instrumental outro to something. Maybe just a live-only thing. The actual riffage is awesome, and as Jobby says it would be awesome if they did the whole thing live (minus the ridiculous vocals of course)
-
Relax guys, this was just a rehearsal for the 23rd anniversary tour
-
It's because they mostly play stuff from the new record, which is pretty boring
Legitimately not sure whether you're talking about Muse or Foals here
-
I'm expecting Coldplay's set to be better than Muse's tbh.
-
They should have played TAB, the lyrics would have been very fitting today
-
Not bad.
I know I shouldn't complain, but I feel like I'd gladly have seen something like B&H or Assassin over one of those Dead Stars. Or even Defector now that I've probably missed the chance of ever seeing it...

Just realised that Riga was the first Muse gig (6th total gig) where they didn't play anything I hadn't seen before. I feel like it should have taken longer than that
-
Haha, I swear I saw it in the 'Never played live' category a while ago in Musewiki and got nearly excited when it got played in Lithuania. Nevermind.
You probably saw that before the tour began
-
Managed to get barrier last night! No big surprises (though CE was great) but at least it wasn't the same set as the London gig I went to I guess.
-
The other night I dreamed that Muse played a mashup of SFA and Hoodoo and for some reason I was onstage with them. (not playing anything, just watching) At the end I told Matt it was one of the best things they've ever done, I can't remember his reaction to this though.
-
Wasn't Riga the place they last played Assassin before the Psycho Tour? You might get lucky.
Though that logic reminds me of the T2L tour when a trumpeter showed up at one of the Mexico gigs and there was speculation City of Delusion would get played because 1. trumpet and 2. the last place it was played before being dropped was Mexico.
Yeah, also the last place they played Cave (at Positivus Festival which isn't in Riga but... same country ) Also it was one of the few places on T2L arena tour to get Save Me... so by that logic they'll probably play Aftermath I wonder if there's a deliberate reason they've tended to play rare songs there or if it's just a coincidence?
-
I'm seeing them in Riga in a couple of weeks and based on recent sets I doubt I'll see anything I haven't seen before (except maaaaybe Defector or Revolt, of which I'd much prefer the former)
I'm trying not to let the fact that they've always done something special for Latvia get my hopes up, as this will probably end up being the time they break that trend

My prediction for Glasto: (these songs, maybe in a different order)

Ah, so we'll be getting a black and white video of Madness from Milan for christmas in about 3 years then. Cool.

'Songs I've seen less than half the time that they could have potentially been played'
I thought this would be an interesting idea, sadly my list was nowhere near as interesting as yours. I need to see Muse more times, dammit. Dead Star just missed out on being included as it's currently sitting at a comfortable 60%.
New Born
Map of the Problematique
Panic Station
Micro Cuts
Fury
Animals
Citizen Erased
United States of Eurasia
Supremacy
Uno
The Groove
Hyper Music

Blackout

gaaaaaah I hate weird gigs like this 'cause you never know whether it's worth going or not
Any word on price? I couldn't see owt.
The facebook post I saw says 55 euros, with some sort of golden section for 70 euros.

This is very interesting. Do we know more details? For example, full lenght show or special gig a la Horse Guards Parade? Broadcasted in TV?
France always loved Muse and is fantastic if they are doing special shows there.
X Ambassadors are apparently supporting so I'd guess it's a full length show. No idea what the capacity could be though... if it's small then maybe this is the small French show Matt hinted at a few weeks ago?

It's weird to hear a US crowd actually react to OOS songs

My best guess would be that they thought they'd be spammed with people saying "where's Starlight?!" Etc. And not including them would leave quite a short list if they're only considering songs they've played this tour. Maybe they wanted to make it look like there was more of a choice. Who knows what goes on in their heads though...
