  1. This might amuse/appall you. Had a slight incident after a social where one of the guys wanted me to keep an eye out for a girl he'd boned and wanted to avoid. Only trouble was, he could only remember that she was blonde and "hot". Jokily mentioned this in a facebook post two days later, and then found myself shouted out for jeopardising his chances with the "slits" Feel free to sing the I Was Right Song.

  2. I've actually ended up going back over some of the Ash stuff I've got after you mentioned them. I always forget that the actual music is pretty meaty (much more than the pop-punk they get lumped in with) and most of it still holds up pretty nicely :)

  3. Amen to Pan's Labyrinth. My parents let me watch it when I was 12 (so I missed a lot of what made it so great, though it left a big impression on me) and I don't understand how it didn't give me nightmares afterwards.

  4. Did things sort out with Gregor in the end? I reckon a firm no when sober should have him backing off.

  5. Not to bad, knackered but getting by, and the wind's gone down at least. Just trying to keep on top of work and make sure my bank balance is OK.

I'm kinda jealous of the Rome film, but can't really spare the cash (and I've no idea where the nearest screening might be) so I'm gonna go see Gravity instead :)

  6. I think some guys from history society are keen :) so I should be going sometime next week. Pity I can't see it at an Imax, but I'm damned if I'm not watching at a cinema.

I figured Hitchcock must be like that for a lot of people, not sure if I had that with any particular director as a kid. I've been catching up on the classics recently and started appreciating various tricks a bit more. Meaning to go over some other films at home like Pan's Labyrinth and Casino Royale when I go back for Christmas and see what else I notice :)

  7. No one will see Gravity with me :( someone actually used the words "most average film ever" after seeing the trailer!

  8. Hey, how's Glasgow? It's bloody cold down here already, how's the weather up there?

  9. He's one of those directors that you always take for granted, if that makes any sense. Like, he's so highly praised that I'd never really been interested in his stuff before (which I'm regretting now). Once you start paying attention properly though, his genius really shows

  10. I just couldn't stand The Happening if I'm honest. Futility's one thing, but the film just wasn't my thing. Still, The Birds was absolutely brilliant.

  11. The thing that struck me most about The Birds is how much the ending reminded me of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There's no real victory, escape is the only option.

Why did I come to a town with so many seagulls?

  12. Hey, you heard the new track from A Perfect Circle? I need to listen to it some more to make up my mind about it.

  13. I think everyone in Aber's come down with that, it's all snuffles and coughing over here. Imagine Scotland would probably be the same.

And yeeeah, it was fairly awful. Felt very, very ashamed of myself, but it seems the chocolate made up for it :chuckle:

  14. It always feels crap, just think of it as part of finding your limits. Last year I threw up all over my room and it was so vile that I had to sleep on the sofa  bought a load of chocolate to apologise to the housemates for the smell (never, ever eating chilli before a night out again). Glad you're liking Glasgow though :)

I think I've finally cracked using my time properly (fingers crossed). Just trying to finalise dissertation setup and get an essay done early so I can go boating. Got in a cheeky blast of the river Wnion in between assignments on Tuesday :D

  15. Yo, how's uni treating you? BTW about that post- we've all done far worse, trust me ;)

  16. I think I might see it at the arts centre soon, if I can get some friends keen :) I think the one that got to me worst was Marion's smile, the feeling that she's accepted it.

  17. Just realised I reposted that Pelagial message a while back. Sorry about that, how's things with you?

  18. Not gonna lie, Harry's arm was a picnic compared to the rest of Requiem for a Dream's finish, for me. I think the endings for Sarah and Marion hit me hardest.

  19. Pi really unnerved me, it just keeps unsettling you. To the point where Angel by Massive Attack becomes relatively comforting and normal-sounding- and then they pull that rug from under your feet too  I was already bad with needles in film and TV, but then the drill? I mean it was great, but... aargh  Think I'm gonna watch Requiem tonight, just gonna grab a hanky before I do.

  20. I'm borrowing the two today :) I'm not sure what the references in 12 Monkeys actually are, so I'm gonna have to rewatch it after Vertigo. My to-see list is huge just now, which is the way I like it

  21. Ah, wow that's cool :) I'm gonna borrow Pi and Requiem off a friend, hopefully I can get hold of them this evening. Been meaning to watch Vertigo ever since I saw Twelve Monkeys, as everyone keeps telling me that there are loads of references to it in that film (presumably the bizarre relationship aspect).

  22. Ah, sweet- what sort of stuff does he play live? I kind of want to experience it for the first time with the film, if that makes sense. First time I heard "Lunar Industries" it was on the (great) advert for the (diabolically awful) Alien: Colonial Marines Game and I had no idea where it came from until Moon came along and broke my heart. I'm planning to watch Aaronofsky's films in the near future along with some of Hitchcock's (Dial M was perfect, can't fault it in any way).

  23. Biased? In what way? I'm pretty much on board with his stuff (Moon broke my heart into little pieces and I listen to soundtracks a lot when doing coursework), just need to track down some more of his stuff :)

  24. Definitely. I've come away from this feeling like I need to listen to way more soundtracks :)
