  1. Yeah it really is how you use the tuning. I mean an album full of pentatonic riffs in drop D would get old fast. I remember that's one of the biggest reasons AM by Arctic Monkeys was so dull for me — every song was centered around the same kinds of pentatonic riffs
  2. Ok hopefully this won't get taken down. So I rearranged the track (much like someone previously did, very well) but also added some subtle bits to the drum part to the first half to try and make it a bit more interesting. Let me know what you think.
  3. See I thought that at first. But then I remembered "I'm gonna win" and "eura-SIA." Then everything was ok. It's up there as their worst but at least it has company.
  4. I took a shot at editing the track. I really liked the arrangement that was posted yesterday but I added some subtle percussion (I tried to be tasteful in adding something to the track) in addition to some rearrangements. I think it spiced up the first half a bit...let me know what you guys think: https://www.mediafire.com/?41y6bnzdd926ynl Sorry for not having it streaming, Soundcloud immediately blocked it.
  5. Explorers Unsustainable Unintended Big Freeze HT&ILY (this may be controversial but I always thought Matt sounds incredibly whiney on this one, even though the instrumental is pretty great) really can't think of another tbh. I pretty much like every track from OoS to TR.
  6. I don't dislike the 2nd half because of the chord progression so much as the uninspired vocal part...sure he hits some notes really well but there doesn't seem to be much direction or climax in the melody there
  7. I find myself enjoying the first half now. The lyrics are generally pretty good in that part! I just cannot for the life of me get into the second half. I loooove those muted notes on the guitar and piano in the second chorus. The octave singing in the third chorus is great as well.
  8. Agreed. The first half has grown on me immensely since I first heard it, but the second half (especially in Matt's seemingly random vocal lines, no matter how good some of the notes are) just sounds so half-baked. The lyrics don't help either. There's just no clear direction for any kind of common melody in that part, and the song just doesn't come to a solid conclusion or climax because of it. The song just kind of dies () out as that part drags on.
  9. The delivery of "I've give you everything" is so awkward. It just doesn't line up with the song. I agree that it needs a hook, or at least some climax like "I need your love"
  10. I just think the arrangement of the instrumentals is so sparse that it makes it hard not to focus on the lyrics. Honestly if the drums and bass were just a bit busier this would be so much more interesting. The track just does not leave any impression on me
  11. Ok so many listens later I think I just need to sleep on the track. It's refreshing to hear a track with more dynamics (as opposed to Psycho) but it doesn't really leave an impression on me. That being said, I felt the same exact way about Madness at first. I love it now!
  12. The only thing worse than fans complaining that the song didn't meet their expectations are the people who complain about those fans..
  13. Even the guitar solo's tone is exactly like that of Madness'. Very upfront, intentionally sloppy, fuzzy sound. Still good though
  14. that greatest guy line is pretty bad but nothing touches "life's a race." growing on me though! waiting for it to come out on itunes so I can leave my dorm room though haha also Bliss came up on autoplay after the lyrics video and then it kinda brought me down lol. same keys though!
