  1.

Looks like Easily will be played, or at least they are rehearsing it! B-side of bh&r that they've never played... can only be Easily! (Or Soaked but no one is calling for that)

    http://www.irishnews.com/arts/2017/08/18/news/dig-it-muse-talk-vital-and-embracing-the-single-life-1113636/

Very jealous of those going, & hope some good vids or pro shots show up- Enjoy it guys!

  2. You're aware that the loud volumes at gig distorts audio quality for those present as well, right? Not to mention that the mix is totally different depending on where you are at the gig. Or maybe you just can't tell when Matt's struggling? Because that's what it sounds like when I listen to the video which tells the following:

    1.

    (
) struggles to reach the notes twice in a row

    7s (
) ends the line early to avoid sustaining it which he's obviously struggling with

    12s

    (

) sings the high note in falsetto to make it easier, which he barely did a single time last tour.

    27s switches to falsetto again

    32s and again

    41s and again

    50s (
) doesn't sound objectively bad, but that's a telling sign he can't hit the note properly, and it sounds a bit funny as a result.

another sign of his struggles, the fact that he's missing cues, and the note isn't exactly pitch perfect as you describe it.

Here's a third video that shows the exact same thing:

I mean, he has a pretty obvious tell which is that he jerks his head to the side every time he struggles with a note. So the performance is far from embarrassing as someone described it, but also far from pitch perfect and free from struggle like you described it. He struggles throughout most of that song, and that's just a fact.

Wow, thanks for finding all those vids- now I don't have to go thru any trouble to relive my gigs - all I've gotta do is challenge you so you can do all the work for me! Much appreciated!

   ;):p

  3. Or maybe being in the heat of the moment in the middle of a crowd with amps blaring at you gives you a skewed perspective of the sound :p

I wouldn't say it was worse but DI and The Handler both definitely had the same struggles as the arena tour - husky falsetto, bit short of breath and struggling with the higher chest notes. If you watch videos back it's pretty obvious, the audio was really clear.

Lol, my ears work quite well thank you. By your logic, the opinion of those actually at the gig counts less than those hearing a recording filtered thru machines that degrade & distort quality. Sure thing, I guess we should skip going to gigs & just rely on a band recording.

  4. He did way worst, probably embarrased himself and dropped it for the next gig

Um, wrong. Don't know if you were at the gig, but I was& it sounded pitch perfect from the first few rows- in no way did he struggle. I was happy to get DI in place of UD bc I'd already seen UD before & the acoustic seems to add nothing. Same with Handler- great as it is, I've already seen SS live. Handler was also great - none of the vocal struggles from videos I saw from last year. So maybe the audio doesn't translate well in recordings in general?

  5. It won't happen in this case, but how would the board feel if Muse did a complete surprise album drop sooner than their normal cycle?

Not worth discussing since a whole surprise album just isn't happening. They said they've got 3 songs recorded & that lines up with the amount of time spent in studio in London. So it's only worth discussing the timing of releasing these 3 songs. By what Matt's said, it'll be one single at a time, which makes sense nowadays, & may as well try something different from the dying album-every-3-years format.

    So I say-

1 song now (early May at this point) played on US/Can summer tour

2nd song August leading up to R/L

3rd song either keep in the vault till album time or release in late fall to tide fans over while they record more or take more time off.

  6. According to this person who talked to Matt at Coachella on Friday, we can expect "a single coming out soon".

    But how soon is soon?

Supposedly Matt said (or the fan hazily assumed) beginning of summer. That can be June 21st in a literal sense, but hoping for earlier than that, like say...oh...May 20th in West Palm Beach! :D

  7. I got my password too!

But now, let's see if that translates into actual tickets. Fine print somewhere says 100 presale tix per venue :stunned:

Edit- yay, got my tix!!! 7th row after pit (hubby's not into standing esp to endure 30STM). Presale tickets gone now for my gig.

  8. So, earlier today, Muse's official Instagram account followed 30Seconds to Mars & Pvris (never heard of them). Strange since Muse IG had only previously followed Matt, Dom & Chris & that's it.

Took a look around & found this, posted yesterday:

You heard it here. A close friend was told by a San Diego promoter that Muse and Thirty Seconds To Mars will be touring together in September! Muse will be headlining, performing in amphitheaters. The tour is 4 weeks long. The only confirmed dates I know of are in Chula Vista, California and the Life Is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas, Nevada from September 22-24.

Muse and MARS are already performing at two of the same festivals in June (Bunbury and Firefly).

I am currently shitting myself, if you could not tell by my username. I don't know anything about when it will be announced or where else it'll be, but if I find out I'll let you guys know. I'm suspecting it will be cut in two parts - east coast in June/July and then west coast in August/September.

Believe me or not, but remember this post.

Grain of salt, & normally not believable, but that 30STM follow today....

  9. You wanna really cry at the sorry state of rock's popularity in today's music industry? Look here, at 4 actual Grammy voters revealing their secret ballots. No one seems to have any awareness of the ones nominated! So is there any surprise at the bizarre groupings in the rock album category?

The Songwriter: I would never vote in that category—you don’t have to vote in all of them, and I try to be honest by voting in the ones I know. But I’d pick Muse. They’re such a big band.

The Artist: I may have heard of James Bay before, but I’m not sure—I’ll have to go listen.

The Producer: I don’t know that I have an album I rooted for out of these, so I’d probably go for Muse. But it seems like the Alternative category is where the rock is. Like shouldn’t Tame Impala be in this category? I’m confused.

The Artist: I guess I’d go with James Bay. He’s a nice dude.

  10. Stereotyping that US is 'commercial' with 'short attention spans'.

Bands do it a lot in the sense that they say something such as 'oh our heavier stuff sold better in country x so we'll probably play some of that there'

It's not a stereotype. It's true. US has other music genres distracting potential concert-goers now, like country & hip-hop. Rock, especially hard rock, has been pushed down to minor niche status. Name an up & coming real rock band that can fill an arena now?- can't think of one. Lots of legacy bands, but no new superstars. So Muse delivers to their public. Can't fault them there.

    And with that said...

    1) It's a crying shame that they are considering dropping Reapers. Being a new song, can't expect restless newbies to catch on immediately, but it's a killer song live! Plus if they wanna look at it from a business point of view, Reapers is the current US single, cracking the top 20 today in Active Rock.

    2) Add in at least 2 songs. 17 songs is unacceptable- if they took the time & money to bring in that huge stage production, at least make it worth the while! Throw the hardcores a bone with a rarity (for US that's CE or Bliss) & maybe another piano song.

  11. They will probably play in these cities for certain;

    Dallas

    Houston

    Denver

    Phoenix

    Seattle

    Vancouver

    Chicago

    Minneapolis/st. Paul

    Detroit

    Toronto

    Montreal

    Quebec

    Boston

    New York x2 or 3

    Philadelphia

    Washington, D.C.

    Atlanta

    A Florida city

    Then of course LA 2.

Maybe a couple Midwest shows, but probably not as extensively as they did last time.

I so wish what you said there was true, but think you're being much too optimistic. I tend to go with what muse s'amuse is saying- just some limited dates in Jan- Feb in major markets before the grueling Euro tour. Sadly, the US doesn't sell very well for Muse- except NYC & LA- & Warner (or whoever is in charge of these things) has given no support whatsoever- no promo on late night or any other shows where much lesser bands have been. That 360 production looks very intensive (translate: expensive) & Muse might not want to lose money by playing to empty arenas. Such is life, & I'm one of the ones who get screwed. :(

  12. muse'samuse is correct about the basketball schedules not being finalized, and that's probably the issue... but what an awful amount of time to wait in a country that tends to forget about things so quickly unless they're shoved in our face every 10 minutes.

Well, here's a bit of good news- NBA schedule will supposedly be out tomorrow, even though it's already out privately within the industry. So then I'd expect Muse US dates by later in the week or early next. I can't imagine them holding it out longer if they plan to have enough time to fill arenas in Nov & Dec.

  13. "So I just bumped into Matt Bellamy at Newton Abbot station (he was waiting outside for his mum to pick him up, bless), so I asked him if Muse were playing bestival and he said "no", I said I thought they were the special guests and he said "definitely not". Said about download and something about a UK tour coming up early next year. Nice guy. Very polite.

So there you have it folks. Straight from the horses mouth. Unless he wasn't prepared to say yes, he seemed pretty adamant though"

boooooooooooooooooooooooooo I was so convinced it was them

Did he say this just recently? Why is he talking about download?

  14. I hope they release the rock version of Dead Inside. I'm sure it was better.

Opposite for me- I hope they release an a stripped down piano version of it, to get full emotional effect. Heard a haunting cover by a French(?) girl, linked many pages ago & was quite moved.

  15. Release date- I called it last Thursday-

(was only wrong on exclusive streaming, tho Apple/Beats might have exclusive tracks or b sides)

    ...

    3) vegardrv upthread brought an article saying Apple/Beats music streaming service will be launched at the keynote address of the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Fran on June 8th. source: http://9to5mac.com/2015/03/05/apple-...g-march-event/

Only problem is that Muse is in the middle of festival tour in June. However, there happens to be a 5 day break (June 7-11) with no gigs. Plenty of time to fly to San Fran & do other album promo in LA for an album that drops on... June 8th! The album will be exclusively streamed for sometime starting that day on Apple/Beats & eventually go elsewhere.

That's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Now back to your regularly scheduled freaking!

  16. OK guys. Don't know about single release date. But we might know the album release date.

    1) I agree that Matt meeting w Jimmy Iovine & tweeting about it out of the blue is a clue. There's something afoot with Muse & Apple/Beats. The guys might be ironing out the details & signing contracts etc in LA so why not rehearse while they're at it?

    2) Don't think anything will happen at the March 9th Apple watch event- the focus is the watch not music. The 1st single will be released eventually in the next few weeks.

  17. (wow, I know it must be near album release time- haven't visited here in years! Had trouble remembering my name & such)

    A few things-

    1) Interview is recent- I'd say done this past Dec or Jan because Matt says they're almost finished & only had mixing to do.

    2) Author is 'Brian McKnight'- doubt that's the r&b singer but also doubt he's German. So there's gotta be an original English version out there- maybe on an American or UK version of this elusive Ticketmaster mag?

    3) Empathy gap- it's actually not a made-up term from Matt & actually exists! This was sent to me by a friend & refers to exactly what Matt describes- http://joshuaspodek.com/js_blogseries/empathy-gaps-series - how people make decisions but then change their minds or lose their nerve or willpower later. He specifically says that refers to his personal life- we can only speculate who/what he means ;)

    Edit-

Can a German-speaker translate the intro 1st page that's not included in translation? Seems to say Drones is due in 'early May', which goes against this '0615' currently going around.

  18. Kerrang magazine's editor Tweeted earlier: "Hearing some rumours about a massive band - a massive, massive rock band - doing a secret show in London next week. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

Now I may be jumping to conclusions here and I'm guessing its going to be a different band but... what if?

Hmm, so this tweet includes 'massive' 3 times... some might interpret him to mean it's something *super*massive... just sayin' :p

  19. This is part of the same interview with Matt that Fabri linked above (originally for Billboard) but with an interesting new angle:

At the end of their record contract, what will Muse do next?

This week it was revealed that Muse have 'no concrete plans' following the end of their contract with Warner Bros. Records. So what next for Britain's last great eccentrics?

Warner bought Muse's six album deal from original label Taste Media/Mushroom in 2005 - meaning that 2012's The 2nd Law was be their last contracted record with them. Speaking to Billboard this week, frontman Matt Bellamy said that the band were 'at a crossroads' and planned to take time off to think about where to go from here.

    http://www.gigwise.com/blogs/85189/at-the-end-of-their-record-contract-what-will-muse-do-next

This is new information to me. I knew of the 6-album contract, but thought it started with Absolution. This says older albums were included. So could it be true that they'll be self-publishing through Helium-3 or is it just silly speculation? Does it even matter?

  20. All old quotes. From a quick search on Musewiki:

"magic mushrooms...comeback" is from Nov. 2006 Q Mag:

    http://www.musewiki.org/Q_2006-11_%E2%80%93_Best_Live_Act

You used to be quite a hedonist. Still burning the midnight oil?

MB: Well, the magic mushrooms have made a comeback recently. We had a day off in Las Vegas so we bought a bouncy castle and drove out to the desert with the girls from [youthful garage rock trio] The Like. We took a load of mushrooms, dressed the girls up in space costumes, and went nuts on this bouncy castle. It was brilliant. Any inter-band romance? [A devilish cackle] No, no, the girls are all lovely... but we're perfect gentlemen.

"Salvador Dali" part is from June 2008 Q:

    http://www.musewiki.org/Q_2008-06_%E2%80%93_Q%26A_Muse

What was the last really daft thing you did?

We hired a bouncy castle in Las Vegas for a party and decided to dress up as aliens. Peoople definitely lost it there. That was the last time I did mushrooms, actually. Dom [Howard, drummer] had a dog mask on and he ran off into the desert, and I ran after him, and for a minute I was actually in a Salvador Dalí painting: if you look at his painting The Elephants I was the little person at the bottom of those elephant’s legs. I’m not really in favour of drugs, but setting aside one day a year for hallucinogenics definitely opens up new doorways.
