  1. Although it doesn't do a hell of a lot I think the guitar chugs the chorus on at a decent pace. Simple chord progression? Yes, but sometimes things don't need to be overly complicated. Particularly as mercy is one of those tracks with a few more elements than just guitar, bass and drums. And that pace of guitar matching drum rhythm is important in the track considering the majority of the chorus is a long note on one word. Could of been boring otherwise, but in my opinion, it does just enough. Plus im a sucker for synth appregios and some backing keys on these type of tracks.
  2. I must say, I think Mercy is one of their best ever pop songs. It has really grown on me, extremely catchy, more heavy than starlight for all the right reasons and combines a lot of great instrumentation. Fantastic bass line, great guitar in the chorus and a fantastic melody, all backed by the lovely synth appregios. Compared to revolt it's a no contest. No matter how often I listen to revolt I simply cannot get past the mountainous wall of cheese facing me. The bad kind of catchy. I actually also love Dead Inside. First half isn't amazing, but those vocals from the bridge onwards is some of Bellamy's best.
