No problem, it took me ages to figure it out on my own so I'm glad to help out. I only work in PS, so I don't know about any other programs...

I got it through illegal internet connections... Let me know if you want the download link because it's kinda screwed up when you try to google it...

This is the way I do .gifs...

First you need Adobe Photoshop, CS3 or higher. Then you need Quicktime 7 or higher.

Open Photoshop and in the first drop-down menu you'll find Import>Video files to images or something like that... When you click on a movie file (it has to be .mov) it'll open it and then you'll be able to play the video. Once you find the 'moment' you want to .gif to be, press shift and play the video, pause it where you want your .gif to end. Remember to hold shift while the part of the video that you want your gif to be is played. Once you're done with that, click OK. Then to save your .gif, click on File>Save For Web Images (or something like that).. there, you'll be able to view your gif. Save it and it's done! (Just in case, the first time you open your .gif, and it stops at a sertain moment, it doesn't matter, it'll work when you post it on a page.)
