I’m well aware.
-
Matt sounds better when he gets plenty of rest between gigs. Not that strange.
-
Don’t think so. I mean only by fans.
-
I definitely think that setlists and deep cuts matter a lot when it comes to people who actually buy the releases. I honestly think that Zepp as a live release would have sold much more than Rome.
-
Honestly I had no idea what to write. They were clearly so uplifted by their genius work that nothing could bring them down.
-
top quality memes from reddit who just learned that you can edit setlists to say whatever you want
Update:
-
No. I doubt that Matt would say “that was from our upcoming song The dark side” and I doubt he would write it on the setlist, so how exactly would anyone know it was that song?setlist.fm said that there is 'the dark side' outro after stockholm... Is it true? -
To be fair the song wasn't THAT relevant in 2003 before the meme.
-
I mean there were people who thought that songs like Stockholm Syndrome were an attempt to be more mainstream and polished.
-
Never understood that. I mean, yeah, it's not Citizen Erased or Stockholm Syndrome, but does that mean it's not good? lol
Is it really that hard to understand? It's a love ballad by a band that by the time were famous for alternative rock with prog-tendencies. Rock fans in general aren't as varied in their taste as they like to think.
-
You'll be glad to hear that that was pretty much what most [of the vocal] people on here felt as well. Matt's lyrics have [mostly] gone to complete shit and the lack of subtlety was definitely something a lot of people mocked the band for, even outside the fandom. I mean just look at that cover...Gonna go ahead and kill any good will I've acrued on this board by saying that Drones has my least favorite songwriting. Maybe it wasn't as bad as I'm making it out to be, but I'm none too keen on the idea of a concept album by a band that has no grasp on subtlety. (We get it the nAME OF THE ALBUM IS DRONES PLEASE STOP SAYING THAT!)Apparently Mutt, the producer of Drones, actually told Matt to dumb down the lyrics.
EDIT: Here are some relevant reflections from people http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?p=11706329#post11706329

Controversial opinion: The people who love Thought Contagion would adore most of the Mania songs if they had Muse's name on them.
-
And when the tracklist is revealed, I'll be sure to quote Matt on how the Drones Tour was supposed to represent the heavier side of the band.
-
Production that doesn't make me want to rip my ears off.
Vocals that aren't so obnoxiously overdone they make watching paint dry sound more enticing.
An attempt at fusing modern rock with top 40 influences that doesn't come off as 100% completely pandering and nauseating.
Guitars that sound like guitars.
And, for the sake of Young And Menace, having a chorus that isn't literally chipmunk squeals and randomly places bass hits which somehow takes up the majority of the song.
Most of that applies to TC imo. I mean TC was specifically bashed quite a lot for the lack of guitars that sound like guitars, was it not?
And pandering by trying to fuse modern rock with top 40 influences? Isn't that exactly what Matt has said he wanted to do?
And overdone vocals...well...
You keep comparing TC to one song that doesn't really sound anything like the rest of Mania though, bland as the album may be.
-
Don’t see what would make TC any better.
-
Is it though?
-
Which is exactly why some of us are still hereThere are good albums and bad ones. But just because there is, let's say 2 bad ones from an artist and the rest is great, won't stop me from listening or liking the artist
I'm not sure what you're trying to say though to be honest
-
The problem is that the fans/listeners/audience is too demanding these days! "Make a rock-album!" "Serve your older fans!" "We want songs like on OOS/Abso!"
The only place you see those kinds of comments is Facebook though.
And yes, I demand more than 6/10 albums from any artist I listen to. It can't really be "too" demanding though. If I don't like something, that's not gonna change just because I was a fan of a band's earlier work *shrug*

Reddit is decent imo. I hear people complaining that it downvotes anything negative as well anything positive, depending on who you ask. In reality it totally depends on who’s online at the moment. But I hate the whole voting system in general.
Oh and the memes are absolutely terrible.
-
Eh, there was loads of hate for both Dig Down and Thought Contagion on most places, including Facebook, YouTube AND Reddit.Honestly you'd be surprised that this is a Muse forum at times. I frequent many forums over time and I've never been on a forum that can so fervently hate what it was made for. I go to a couple of muse discords, and see Facebook posts from groups I follow, and go to the official reddit, and they all seem to love Muse as I do. Everywhere I went I saw people loving Thought Contagion but come here and it can be intoxicating.I'm incredibly excited to see what they'll do with this album. It's not as good a year musically for me as last year, no, because last year I got Alt J, Killers, Nothing But Thieves, Royal Blood, Chvrches, and Imagine Dragons, all of which with incredibly good albums imo. This year has my two favourite bands, though, Muse and Arctic Monkeys, so who knows what tomorrow will bring
But yet you come here? Why?
-
If you turn to 30STM to save the year in music you’re already doing it wrong if you ask meI meant for MuseI listened to the new 30STM album today...was absolutely horrendous and the final sign of it wasn’t already obvious that Jared Leto has permanently disappeared up his own backside and thinks he’s Jesus.
Listened to the new Alison Wonderland album that also came out today and that wasn’t much better...been a rough week musically besides a grain of hope this new Arctic Monkeys album can be something awesome!
Dig Down Contagion/The 3rd Law is an album that we already know will most likely disappoint us
-
I definitely think they’re doing it because of long-term exposure. I just don’t think it’s a good thing. If anything it just makes people bored of them.
-
Yeah that was basically my point.
-
I know you're not, but I really don't think Muse would suffer commercially from taking a break. As long as they're backed by a huge label, it doesn't matter if people forget about them, because they will show up in your feed anyway when the new single is released.I'm not saying I don't think they could use a break (although they're at an age where that might be problematic on its own) just that we're in an era where people's memories are getting shorter and shorter. Or I guess, rather, attention spans.
Speculation on future gigs/tours

It's okay, I'm just a bit grumpy because I've got a deadline at midnight.
