  1. LOL you replied to me on your own profile! :D I almost did that a couple of times too!

I showed one of our video production interns the videos for "Ulysses" and "Leave Before the Lights Come On." He liked the film grain and cinematic qualities of both and got thrown off with the ending of the latter video.

We need to change the state of local music videos, if that's what they can even be called. I never watch OC16, but from the very little that I've seen of it, it's an embarrassment to local video production. It's like the musicians got their cousin's camcorder and slapped something together just 'cause. But I guess it's tough to produce cool music videos when a lot of the music isn't very inspiring to begin with.

I've heard of Arctic Monkeys. I'm downloading their albums right now. :)

I've been trying to figure out which Muse songs to burn for our intern that showed me the Arctic Monkeys and Strokes videos yesterday. She already has BHaR but she's having a hard time getting into it, though she asked me today which song was used in the Watchmen trailer and she didn't realize she had it. I think I'm just gonna burn all their other albums and some b-sides on a CD.

  2. We have the same favorite tracks on Tonight: Franz, in addition to "Ulysses" and "Can't Stop Feeling" for me. I just noticed today how "Kiss Me Katherine" acts as a reprise for "No You Girls" because they share a lot of the same lyrics. I thought that was neat. Usually reprises are in musicals, but it works for this album because it has that "night out with friends" theme and that story quality to it.

Coincidentally, I asked a couple of coworkers today if they heard of Franz Ferdinand. Strangely enough, both of them confused them with Modest Mouse! "Take Me Out" and "Float On" came out at around the same time and had similar music videos, and I guess that's where the mix-up was...

I had a music discussion/YouTube search session with one of our interns. She listens to a bit of Arctic Monkeys and had me watch their music video for "Leave Before the Lights Come On." I liked how it was more of a short film set to their song than a traditional music video; I loved the clever cyclical ending to the video. We also watched/listened to some stuff from Kate Nash and the Strokes. I'll give her a copy of Tonight: Franz. She'll give me some music from Arctic Monkeys and the Strokes.

Oh man, how could I forget about reversing?! That's another thing I need to work on. Especially with the driveway we have to back out of.

Good luck on your permit! :)

  3. Good job on the Franz recommendation -- I can't thank you enough! They're now my new bus ride soundtrack. Right now, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand is my favorite of their three albums. You may have led me to my new favorite band. :) And about the beach music, my sister was actually the one who wanted me to bring Muse CDs. I guess that's a good sign! ;) Listening to her and her friends sing along to their songs was amusing.

Sorry to hear about your car incident! Hope your parents will see the light and take you to the DMV. You don't want to procrastinate on getting your license... take it from someone who knows because I still don't have mine! I know, lame, right? That's one of my goals this year: to finally get my license. I have my permit, so I've been practicing. I need to working on my turning because sometimes I make wide turns. Also, driving on the freeway freaks me out, but it's inevitable.

  4. Were you aware of this music video? Cool filmmaking... trippy, 70's/80's-ish.

P.S. Noob question: how do you embed YouTube videos? On another message board, the code was , but I suppose it may be different here.

  5. I've been doing okay. I went to the beach on Monday with my sister and a few friends. I haven't been to the beach in ages. As pathetic as it sounds, I barely know how to swim. I had fun, though. We rented a boogie board so that helped. It came out to $6 for a couple of hours. Afterward we went to another beach to meet up with my sister's friends. There, we just stayed on the beach because the waves were scary. We ate, listened to Muse and Beastie Boys and watched my sister's friends roll in the sand. They came up with this game that involved rolling down a sand dune, then running back up, which is challenging when you're dizzy. It was funny to watch.

I've been working on updating my website, something I haven't done in a couple of years! Check it out. Right now, I'm formatting the text in my blog entries. I haven't updated my blog since I graduated. I haven't felt inspired to write in it lately.

    How've you been doing?

  6. "Team Building Exercise 1999!" Funny how he plays himself up for a two-minute event, hehe!
  7. Thanks for those videos! I like how "Ladies of the World" uses the old scenario of being so caught up in a fantasy that they forget they were in an ordinary bar. And "Robots" was the one FOTC song I had in my music library. I cracked up so hard when I first heard it, and remember being blown away by the binary solo, lol.

  8. Thanks again for recommending the new Franz Ferdinand album. I was listening to it yesterday while I was cleaning/reorganizing my room, and again this morning while heading to work. You're right, I do like the single version of "Lucid Dreams" better, but I also kinda dig that electronic/beat breakdown thing at the end of the album version too. :) Haven't gotten around to listening to FOTC yet, though. I'll get to it soon enough!

  9. I'm all right. Staying home today because of a severe storm, I guess our version of a snow day. :) High winds and rain, but not quite a hurricane. My boss called yesterday saying we didn't have to come in to work, and all the schools are closed, so my sister's also home. Plus it's a holiday on Monday. Yay, extended weekend!

  10. My sister also wants to major in psychology. I think I would've majored or minored in it as well if I had a better idea of what I wanted. You could apply it to any walk of life!

GEICO ads in general are just . There were a few good ones, and the cavemen thing worked maybe the first year they were airing, but after a while, it got old for me. Plus, having both cavemen and a gecko as your mascots makes things a bit confusing.

I'll check out Lucid Dreams, as well. I'll listen to both versions for good measure.

Btw, who's that with you in your profile picture?

  11. I majored in advertising. I was originally going to take up journalism, but I lost interest in it. I kind of lost interest in advertising, too (maybe disillusioned is a better word), which is why I'm doing web stuff now. But every time I see a crappy local ad on TV (which is all the time), I feel the urge to make something game-changing.

I found torrents for Franz's two albums and Flight of the Conchords and am downloading them as I type this. Thanks for the suggestions! I know what you mean -- LimeWire sucks, especially when you want to find good quality files! And a link to the premiere would be great, thanks!

  12. No, I graduated May of last year. Sometimes I miss being a student, but I'm glad to be rid of homework!

I noticed there was a bit of a buzz on the message board about the leaked album! I'd love to hear it. Do you have their second one, as well? How's that one?

Oh, Flight of the Conchords! My ex was (is?) a fan. I don't have HBO, but I've seen some of their stuff on YouTube and I have their "Robots" song in my iTunes, but I should check out the rest of their stuff. Looking forward to the show starting up again soon?

  13. I'm sure the store would understand, too. It's happened before -- when the utility poles in Nanakuli went down a few years ago, I missed a couple of my classes at HPU. One class was the day of, the other was the day after because of traffic.

I wouldn't say a fan, but I listen to Franz. I only have their self-titled album.

Oh, and I noticed you changed your avatar. Who's that in your avatar?

  14. Christmas break extension, lucky you! Unless something catastrophic happens to the Apple Store, Ala Moana Center, and/or my route to the store (the latter would be the most likely), I'm expected to show up to work this weekend. But thanks to the storm and Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK Jr. Day on Monday ;)), I actually have some sort of weekend, the first in a while.

  15. LOL. Yeah, I never post on Muselive but I've downloaded a bunch of stuff from there.

Sorry to hear you're sick. Hope it passes quickly. And stay safe during the storm. Day off tomorrow, yay! :D

  16. Shucks, I'm so sorry the DVDs aren't working for you! But yeah, at least you got the computer versions.

By the way, are on you Muse Live as well? There's a ton of things for download there. I'm sure I saw the Making of Absolution there for download.

  17. London for spring break, really?! I'll be in Miami for work-related stuff during the first week of spring break (not really break for non-students lol), but I was hoping (dreaming?) to fly either to London or New York City afterward. NYC or Disney World sound more realistic, though. London's probably gonna be a longer-term travel goal or summer vacation kind of deal. And yeah, I was totally thinking of Muse when I was considering London too! What's the reason for the trip? Hope the trip pans out and you'll have loads of fun (and more Muse merch lol)!

Ugh, I'm sorry the Hullabaloo DVD didn't work for you! I was afraid that might happen. Hopefully it'll be able to play on your other DVD player. If not, I can try compressing Hullabaloo to fit on a regular DVD, but you'd lose quite a bit of quality. The other thing I could do is get another brand of blank DVDs, since certain DVD players are picky about that sort of thing. Stupid, I know. Do you want me to give any of these a try?

  18. I used to be a Windows person. Not by choice, but because that's what came with the computers I happened to buy. Then I started using Macs at school for video production and page design. I got my first Mac, a PowerBook G4, when I started college. For future reference, college students get a discount. So do friends and family members of employees. ;)

Yeah, someone in Hawaii. I don't listen to much local music, but I knew who she was, and the project that we're working on will potentially put our company's name in the spotlight. :)

  19. Oi. I usually wake up around 9 am on the weekdays. The place where I work doesn't require us to be there at a specific time, so waking up later during the week is something I've been taking for granted haha. It's so backwards, though, because on the weekends, I wake up at 5:30 because I have to be at the Apple Store by 8:45. So at least with this new schedule, things are evened out...

I figured those bands were of the whiny variety. I don't know if those bands are radio staples since I don't listen to the radio, but I'll catch band names online or in magazines and recognize them by name and have no idea what they sound like. I guess it's a good thing I don't listen to the radio at all because anything of quality seems to be hard to find on the radio anymore.

I'll discover music in the most random ways. (Like you and the guy you met, haha!) Like I remember getting my first computer when I was nine, and Weezer had their "Buddy Holly" music video on one of the Windows CDs that came with it. (Of course, now I'm a Mac person!)

We just had a meeting with a popular local singer and it sounds like we're doing a huge project for her. I can't divulge too much, but it sounds exciting!

  20. It's been okay. I woke up earlier than usual because I'm getting into the morning workout routine. That was rough. Until today, I went to the gym after work. But after working out, I get this feeling of "taking on the day," which sucks when you're gonna go to bed in a few hours. :p Plus, my "workout buddy" started class today, so she had to get into that routine too.

I spent about an hour chatting with one of our graphic designers, who's on break from art school in San Francisco. I've been there a few times and love it there, so we were talking about everything from things to do there to graphic design and college stuff. I asked if she listens to Muse. She's heard of them, but for some reason thought they had screaming in their music. But we talked about the concerts she went to, like Warped Tour, Academy Is..., Cute is What We Aim For, etc. I don't listen to any of those guys, but I've heard of them, haha.

  21. Haha, I was just wondering if you had gotten them in the mail yet. Sit tight, you'll get them soon! :D

  22. Are you still in touch with the guy that introduced you to Muse?

  23. 7 months? Cool, sounds like we got into Muse at around the same time, over the summer! :)

  24. Hey, just stopping by to say "hi"! Have you gotten around to getting HAARP yet? :)

  25. I understand what you're saying about musical discoveries. I grew up around music -- my dad had a collection of records; my mom, cassettes -- but since I started listening to Beastie Boys (the first of my favorite bands) when I was around 12 years old, I've really been into music, especially alternative music. I don't think I've come across a band that's had the same impact on me as Muse has, though. I just wish I would've started listening to their music sooner, especially because I'm pretty sure one of my guy friends in high school, who was an Ash fan, was also into Muse. But better late than never, I suppose!

Oh that really sucks. So apparently "emo" is anything that involves an electric guitar? And I suppose the Hawaiian singers that incorporate falsetto in their music are "gay" like Matt Bellamy?

New Year's Eve here was like a war zone as usual, but I remember it being a lot worse. I live in the valley right before Waianae Valley, and whatever was going off over there lit up the entire sky. "Apocalypse Please" was playing in my head.
