  1. I started work in the pouring rain. Riding on bike in pouring rain (I couldn't see properly) + epic wind (slow, hard going + struggling to stay in a straight line was scary with all the traffic. :(

It was really hot on the way home (but the wind changed direction + I'm going up hill )... It's very hot now :(

I started work when it was bloody hot :( I was melting away as I did the job... To be honest, I wanted it to rain, I wanted to wear the enormous yellow raincoat

It's not that hot here now though, it's cold if anything...

  2. People think I'm weird for preferring the cold :(

then again, I haven't really experienced much less than just below 0, and that's only been for a few hours in mornings...

No, I'm the same :yesey: I much prefer the cold.

Thank God I finished work earlier - it's just started pissing down with rain

  3. Wow, MIA is headlining the Boiler Room? That's a bit...anti-climatic and out of place :erm: I would've guessed LCD Soundsystem would have headlined it. At least this BDO they were clever about timing the Boiler Room/Green Stage headliners, last BDO Fear Factory played 45 minutes of their set before people even got away from Muse

I remember seeing a crowd of about 300 people for Fear Factory, if that...

  4. I finally had to make the tough decision and replace my eftpos card today. I'd had the dear old thing since 2003. I feel like I've lost an old friend. :(

I thought they were usually only valid for 2/3 years... 5 at the most?

    That's what I thought too!

My card has an expiry date...

Maybe you just had an invincible one! :awesome:

  5. That's fair enough.

But the Commonwealth, to me, is such a random collection of countries that no longer have very much at all in common. I think the days in which we refer to the UK as "the home country" are long gone. The only thing I like about the Commonwealth is our increased medal tally in the Commonwealth Games!

I'm more interested in strengthening regional relationships. If we did ever need saving, we'd have a bit of a wait if we were relying on the UK.

It is a bit, but it's just a safety net, really. The Commonwealth, United Nations, League of Nations, European Union, so on, so forth, they all were/are just a collection of countries that, at the end of the day, would always 'be there' for each other. UN and LoN, not so much (seeing they've failed so many times), but it's just that extra safety net. We'll probably never need them, but it's always nice to have the option.

That's true. At least our country isn't in too much debt yet. I think we're lucky that we're so small for that reason - there's not enough money here for other countries to borrow, and our economy appears to be coping at the moment (for all I know, we could be in enormous debt and our economy could be collapsing like crazy) so we don't need to borrow.

This is why I never took economics or politics. Waaaaay over my head... I leave it to people like you and Jo who know a hell of a lot more about it than I do

  6. Because we're trying to be Australia?

:noey: we'll never be Australia. We're just not big enough and we don't have enough people.

I'm in favour of us becoming a republic, actually - as long as we get to vote for our head of state (which was the thing Australia fucked up in their proposed republic). I just don't think the British royal family is relevant to us in this part of the world anymore, and I'd like to have a head of state that actually lives here and gives a shit about us.

But John was so starstruck when he got to meet the Queen that he's ruled it out for as long as he's PM, so that's that.

Well, the royal family is relevant to no-one anymore, really. Their lives are thrown all over the magazines, they want to put William and Kate's wedding in 3D, ffs. Okay, for that reason, yeah, break away from them, the royal family lost any kind of power when Diana died. Now it's all just about the publicity for them :noey:

I just don't like the idea of being a republic because we don't need to be that way. Although the queen is simply just a figurehead these days, at least we know if we screwed up anywhere, the UK would be right there to save us. If we became a republic, they'd still do the same just because it's right to do, but they wouldn't have any kind of obligation to do so. Under the Commonwealth, we're basically safe, no matter what.

I don't like that we'd be vulnerable, basically. At least it'll never happen :yesey: well, not any time soon, anyway.

  7. Ooooh I love Jelly Tip. Not totally convinced on the Choc Bar. I had a Bubble o Bill for the first time in about ten years the other day. I have so much love for that ice cream!

I used to always get them. We used to get given $1.50 to buy an icecream, and they were $1.40 at the time I think :p that was when I was about 8/9 though. Been many years since I've enjoyed an icecream, to be fair :(

Saw Zombieland tonight. Fucking hilarious. Loved it.

The one thing I thought was terrible about the movie was the awfully abrupt ending...

  8. As much as I think JK is a bit of a wanker at times, I honestly don't see anything wrong with that proposed law...:wtf::erm:

These are examples of things that people regularly need time off for, and things you wouldn't normally need to go and spend $30+ to get a medical certificate for:

    - Colds/aggressive hayfever/flu

    - Ladies on their monthly

    - 'Mental health day' (which is a poor excuse really, but I think we all do it...)

It just makes it a bitch to even consider having day off. And Richard makes a fair point here...

I think it's terrible and encourages employers to trust their workers as little as possible. It could also be argued that it invades privacy.

...that privacy would be invaded too. Your boss would basically know everything about you. They're giving far too much power to bosses these days, with the 90-day trial thing, the medical certificate dramas, and whatever else has been proposed (as I don't really follow it)... Silly government.

  9. It sounds very unlikely that these miners are alive. If the gases are too dangerous to enter then surely the atmosphere where the miners are trapped isn't either? I think the reporting on this has been weird.

Like I said to dad tonight, I really do think that they're putting false hope in a lot of people. Okay, maybe 2 days ago there was still hope, but it's looking a little unlikely now... Sure, they're not going to say on the news that they're goners, but they're still talking as if they're alive and well down there... All I can hope is if they are gone, that they just went to sleep and peacefully passed.

Also if National get this change through of being asked to provide a medical certificate after one day of sick leave I am going to be fucking mad. All they want to do is erode all the labour rights of every New Zealander.

That's just ridiculous! It's all a bloody money thing to him. What's worse is that next year, he'll probably still remain PM, just because people like him. I'm certainly not voting National.

  10. I am actually worried that the piano section might go altogether for the next tour as bellamy doesn't seem to be interested in playing that instrument live anymore... or that they will do what they did during this tour which 1 piano song from the new album + FG. It will be a real shame when you think of all the amazing piano songs they have in their catalogue.

I wish I could be proven wrong but I am not holding out my breath for it.

It sucks how much Muse change in only 3 years, eh? 90% of the BH&R gigs didn't have more than 2/3 piano songs either, compared to the Abso era where most of the gigs had a minimum of about 3 songs + B&H solo + CE/TaB. Quite sad :(

In their defence, yeah, it's hard to get a crowd going with a piano, but a slow section of Starlight, UD, Resistance, GL, FG etc. ain't exactly mosh material either (despite what Muse seem to think of Starlight). It's much easier to impress people with a piano than a guitar, though.

  11. Seeing this seems to be the 'tour' thread at the moment...

That is possibly the weirdest/worst encore I've ever seen Muse do, but it's the only time I've ever seen Muse close any kind of set/encore/show with a slow song. I'd like to see more of this next tour - closing an encore with a slower song. Problem is, you don't get intimate at a Muse gig these days, they're just too big.

  12. I hope that Matt gets a piano that stands up again, then we can cut this "I can't see the crowd" shit that we've been getting all tour. And I hope they finally play a god damn decent piano song - IBTY and FG are two of Muse's easiest piano songs and Cave, he didn't even play half the time

Plus, Space Dementia is totes an awesome opener/closer. No more of this 'MUST PLAY PIANO SECTION IN MIDDLE SET' shit either. Plus, standing piano means less awkward NB piano to guitar transition :awesome:

Ah, how we all hope, but we know Muse will just scrap the piano altogether next tour and Morgan will play everything.

  13. To be fair, I'm not fussed on this whole Paul Henry thing. :p people are going on faaaaaar too much about it. Well, the ones who are all, "WHY IS HE GETTING FIRED OMG END OF WORLD" kind of thing. I bet 90% of the people complaining he's gone never even watched the morning show  I don't even know the name of the morning show!

  14.

Shit, really? That sounds dramatic. Hadn't heard anything about that.

I think it's calmed down now, but Wanganui/Palmerston North area has been hit pretty bad, mainly because it's so hilly here. It's normally a 25 minute drive from here to Wanganui, it was going to take up to 3 hours apparently...

And now I'm annoyed because the cosplay coat I wanted to order is no longer listed on the site I was going to get it from. Even though I've had months in which to buy it, I just never got around to it.

    My friends do cosplay! :awesome:
