  1. I don't particularly care for Rodney Hide, but if Don Brash tries to bring back interest on student loans, I'mma protest in the streets.

As previously stated, I'll only ever pay the minimum needed, and if that barely covers my interest, then so it shall be

  2. It hit in northern Japan, but it's probably similar to Lyttleton and Sumner here - although they're the worst hit areas, it's probably very difficult to get to those places to get any kind of reports. Sure, Christchurch got hit bad, but the epicentre is always going to get the most damage... Tokyo is huge, it'd be very easy to get reports from there.

  3. Thank God that most of the international search and rescue teams have 'finished up' here and can go and help in Japan. Sadly, a lot of them are probably physically and emotionally destroyed from here, so this will perhaps be too much :(

Tsunami warning for here too, I don't think that'll amount to much. Well, I'm hoping like crazy, anyway. Last thing the world needs right now is tsunamis everywhere.

  4. Putting interest on student loans wouldn't do anything. People still are only ever going to pay the minimum requirement through PAYE and fuck off overseas without paying it (legally at least for the first 3 years of repayment holiday). Some people might be responsible and then want to pay it off as quick as possible but that's barely going to make a dent.

Although I know that debt is something I hate, at some point in my life I'm going to get a mortgage, I'll probably end up getting a credit card (although I'll avoid them like the plague) and I really don't think paying off my student loan will ever be a priority. I'll just pay the minimum until it's finally paid off when I'm 60 or something :p

  5. Now, I know that I may have said that the looters are terrible, but this is just...I don't even know:

The comments from some people is embarrassing, especially on the photos. While I have no objections to name and shame and these people do deserve punishment, the amount of torture and death threats is saddening, especially when it wouldn't surprise me if some arsehole has simply posted a Facebook profile of a person they don't like (and they'd have to cop it - you can message most people, even if they're not your friends).

I haven't explained what I mean very well, and I'm not defending these people, but they're the least of people's worries at the moment, and I think wishing torture and death upon them is a bit far. I find it a bit upsetting, if anything.

    edit:

And on refreshing the page, I found this: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Christchurch-Looters-Should-be-Hung/195428723815558

It's just going a bit far, and I think people have better things to focus on.

  6. Something I can't get over with this earthquake is people are getting arrested for theft and burglary  seriously, people are already destroyed enough, why go and make it even more difficult?! Then there's the hackers who are stealing money from people trying to donate. :noey:

You'd think that people would at least have some sympathy for what happened. :(

  7. Hey guys. I'm moved in now, Wellington is amazing. Finally got my internet sorted after four days.

Hi Angus :awesome: I went into uni today to go get that sorted, my laptop just will not retain the settings I have though  I managed to get on once, and then I tried again and it failed :(

  8. I think Massey starts a week later than Vic, so perhaps our breaks won't fall at exactly the same time. I'll probably be home for most of the breaks, although that might change once I get there.

Nah, we both start on the 28th. However, breaks are probably at different times due to trimesters as opposed to semesters. That April date is probably more convenient but more likely to be in a break...

  9. When are you going down to Wellington?

Not entirely sure yet, depends when Vic/Massey breaks are. Not too fussed on going down during them because people will be going home during that time. Probably the weekend of either 19th/20th March or 2nd/3rd April.

  10. Move in on Sunday! Slowly packing my important things away.

I wanted to add in another maths paper for my first semester so it would easier to swap to a double major or degree next year if I decided to, but the online add/drop courses doesn't have it in the list. Might email them, but I could just wait til I'm there. Would I need to contact studylink about that if I do add it, or is that just if you drop out of a course?

I've literally packed nothing  sure, I'll be coming back home on most weekends, but I still want to have most of my stuff over there in case I do decide to stay on the weekends... Living without internet will be hard :stunned:

I think they only need to know if you change your course entirely, because on the Studylink website, it's only got listed what course I'm in, as opposed to what majors I'm doing... I might add computer science as my second BSc major, and as stupid as this sounds, I didn't take a paper this semester/year because the exam was on my birthday

  11. Fucking StudyLink. I have to apply for a limited full-time student loan because I only need two papers to graduate, but I don't think I can get course related costs if I do that. Which I need. Maybe I'll just take an additional unnecessary paper so I can get a normal student loan. Or just not read any of the texts :indiff:

Edit: I also hate how when you email studylink questions, they just reply basically cut-and-paste from the FAQs section. If that was helpful I wouldn't be emailing you! Also they have a shit website.

I feel like I'm going to end up in the same situation. I can feel that I'm going to end up chucking on a double major, which would leave me with needing 2/3 more papers

Vodafone did that to me earlier. I said few questions, and I swear, LITERALLY, they must have read three words in my email. The reply was completely irrelevant to what I was asking! I even did the customer survey to show my disgust :phu:

Pity, I'd heard Vodafone had amazing customer service :(

  12. make sure to get a community service card - some dentists will give you discounts with it. those were the days of $6 to see the doctor. (granted i don't pay a thing to see the doctor here and all my contraceptives are free).

I got my card in the mail today! :awesome:

  13. I've got a gif now:

    johnkeystruts.gif

    Oh dear :noey::p

It's awful, isn't it? I don't mind it too much during the day, but the fact that it doesn't drop below 20 at night is unbearable. Still 23 here right now.

We were so lucky today, it was so cold and I was so happy  I didn't care that I was freezing while I was working outside today, I was just so pleased to finally be able to work outside and not melt away! :chuckle:
