I mean… that’s what we were discussing a few pages back. If they didn’t want to be associated with the right-wing culture war crowd, they shouldn’t be adopting their buzzwords. So either they’re deliberately associating with right-wing populist shit stirrers or they’re incredibly ignorant about the words and images they use. Neither scenario is a good one.

As I said in a previous post, I’ll accept that they’re confused in these confusing times. But I don’t think Vulture is missing the point in their analysis. They see what I see.

It’s just so confusing that Matt copies these buzzwords, catchphrases and symbolisms and then also posts levelheaded CoVid content, BLM support (albeit clunky), pics with Hillary Clinton, etc.

Maybe he thinks things are more complex than just sitting in one camp or the other and loathing everyone who doesn't think like you. (which is what a lot of mainstream political discourse seems to have descended into)

  2. Eh, I usually get irritated by overt, ham-fisted political messaging, but in the music/arts scene it's usually establishment-pushing/left-leaning so Muse's approach to lyrics is feeling quite refreshing in this instance. There's been a lot of pressure, political, social and economical on people recently and I'm feeling the primal energy and no-nonsense vibe they're going for here.

Regarding stuff about the WEF, etc, it depends on how it's done really. The WEF does exist as a international body and does seem to have more influence than people might like to accept (Justin Trudeau for example is basically a WEF plant), and pretty radical plans in the pipeline (you'll own nothing and be happy, is the take-home line), so it's understandable to be wary of it.

Matt has some interesting opinions, and talks about some strange conspiratorial stuff, but I think most of the time he's just entertaining ideas, so I'm trying not to get too worked up about it.

You don't really have to be a "nutter" to see that things aren't quite right with the status quo at the moment, and also to see how massively demonised people are (like Laurence Fox for example) just for airing reasonable concerns and mirroring what the public are saying. We're heading into pretty unsettling and backward times, I reckon. Bring on the album for a bit of respite.

honestly there's something about the chorus that has the same vibe as NSC. Not sure if it's the tone of Matt's voice or the chord progression.

Any idea what tuning the song is in? Sounds like drop-C at least?

Sounds like a low B to me, the chorus starting on a G, so potentially played on a 7 string.

  4. Holy shit that was good. Love the mix, sounds beefy and epic. Can't fault it really, after 1 listen. A bit short maybe, could've done with the bridge and outro being a tad longer. Also I actually like the lyrics which is nice, they feel very relevant. Perhaps the whole thing feels cathartic after the politically polarised last several years in particular.

Would it be irrational to say “pls don’t let LP9 have Covid/vaccine conspiracy lyrics”?

On a more wistful note, there are so many old voices and faces I wish I could be seeing reactions from now that have vanished into the mist 💔

That song sounds amazing. Heavy Dead Star vibes but with an electronic (ST-ish?) vibe too.

In regards to any very topical and political lyrics, I like it when it's vague and generalised, but any ultra-specific stances come off as ham-fisted and cringeworthy, and that includes either side of the Covid debate. Usually Muse are pretty good at dealing with heavy subjects . I also do enjoy Matt's outlook and commentary regardless of if I agree with it or not, he seems quite the free-thinker and an interesting mind.

This is anti-flow. I’m talkin’ WHIPLASH tracklisting.

It’s bad enough on the album, I can’t remember the last time I even wanted to listen to Abso in full, but imagine being at a gig where you’re constantly shifting between fast/heavy and soft/slow on a song-to-song basis like that. Naaah mate, ur alright :noey: I would legit rather see TR in full live purely because it’d make some sense

I disagree that switching from heavy / light or fast / slow is always bad flow. Look at Hoodoo for example, quite a radical change but still works cohesively together. There's more to it.

  7. The last two minutes of it are absolutely gorgeous. The beat and piano might be repetitive but the stuff going on with the strings, choir and synth at the end is one of the most beautiful things Matt has ever written.

Don't think I'm gonna convince you but I would urge you to give this another look

    Agreed.

The point in the track is it has a repetitive couple of layers from the start that are built on top of, increasing in complexity but keeping the hook as time goes on. Brilliant track.

  8. Don't tell me about it... My listening attention span freaking sucks. I really try listening to a lot of music when I can, I really want to, but it's like I'm getting tired of listening after two minutes and a half, no matter what genre the song is. And I hate it.

Then, I listen to 6-minute long drones (no pun intended), noise profiling experiments by the likes of Merzbow, Igorrr or Throbbing Gristles and they manage to keep my attention up. What the heck is wrong with me?

I'd recommend seeing a doctor asap.
