  1. Well, your opinion is that we should stop expression our opinions, because it won't give results anyway :p

And exactly, you haven't been on the board, and when you get back you instantly start again, JUST like the "complainers". I don't see how you are any different :p

The difference is, I come on here to enjoy Muse, likely many other people on here who don't dare comment. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here.

And btw, I did see the thread before, just didn't have time to comment, just felt like it tonight, and my comment is just as valid as anyone's. Why should a thread be full of people having a go, and then when someone more positive comes on, they are shot down?

  2. Nah, Hysteria, TIRO, SS, RBS, Interlude and B&H. That's okay for a 7 year old album.

Though, it's a bit sad when you think of these songs that has been dropped. They are a LOT. Really, even you Carrie. Just think about all those songs that they don't play anymore, and then say it doesn't make you a bit sad. :(

I wouldn't say I lose too much sleep over it. I have too many more important things in my life to think about, and I can always listen to the songs on CDs. It doesn't make any difference to my enjoyment of Muse which songs they play at gigs.

Nor am I changing my argument. Things aren't black and white, just one thing or another, it's a mixture of considerations. Who knows Muse's reasons for what they do, I only go by what they say and attempt to be logical about the rest, but I seriously doubt whether endless moaning is going to get anyone anywhere.

  3. Then why keep playing songs like UD, GL and Resistance that barely gets any reactions at all?

Well maybe they just like them. I think they do get a reaction, they're just not rocking out songs and of course they're new songs, so Muse are more likely to play them this tour.

  4. "I think it was Jo Wiley who commended Muse on the fact that they don't indulge themselves, they play the stuff that she felt people wanted to hear, which is the hits."

Your words. Now how is it? Does Muse play what THEY want, or what the people want to hear?

Wouldn't the polls be a good proof of what a lot of people want to hear?

No the best feedback is what they get from the audience. Muse want to play songs that please the audience. And if they get good feedback for songs such as Feeling Good which they do consistently, they are going to keep playing Feeling Good. ;)

Remember their comments when they first played Bliss I think it was? Something like "oh five people want to hear this". I wonder whether they trusted the polls. Afterall there was nothing stopping people from voting in relation to gigs they weren't attending.

  5. Yeah, only around 20 people wants to hear Muse's older songs...99% of the gig attenders has also never heard of Showbiz or OoS.

No of course, you're right, that's not true. That does them a disservice. I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of people who would enjoy hearing old songs but I was referring to the people who find any opportunity to complain on here. It's always the same minority.

The fact is Muse will perform what they want to, so endless moaning seems pretty pointless to me. They already know that some of the fans on here are desparate to hear old songs!

  6. Well, it's like the people who answer to setlist complains with "I thought the setlist was good.....I like them for whatever they play".

It kinda loses its point to judge something if you don't have any demands. It's like reviewing a movie and then finish by saying "But I would give it 5 stars no matter what".

That's not the point though. The point is that some folks take every opportunity to rehash the same old arguments over and over again and it gets very dull. I like to hear some of the old classics as much as anyone but Muse aren't some tinpot little band who organise their setlists around 20 people. I personally happen to like their new stuff just as much. Some don't that's up to them, but Muse will move on whether or not a small minority of their fans don't want them to.

  7. Basically I think people are overthinking it. Yes I agree that Matt wants everything perfect, and fucking up is a bit of a issue for him, but more than that, I think that he's going on what he wants performed when he goes to a gig, which is the hits. He said it about Prince. He was so pleased that Prince played all his hits. I think it was Jo Wiley who commended Muse on the fact that they don't indulge themselves, they play the stuff that she felt people wanted to hear, which is the hits.

PS The next tour will have an extra ingrediant of course - new songs!:D I can't see anything to complain about that and am happy to wait and see. I can't see the point of bemoaning the loss of the old, life moves on!

  8. PS Matt has said he feels more in touch with the audience when he's front stage than playing the piano. That has nothing to do with whether he has his eye's open. It's about feeling the vibe and reacting to that. Accept his interpretation!

  9. or too gay...that might be it

    Pathetic!

I'm not too keen on the music from Adam Lambert from what I've seen of it, I haven't really looked into it too much I must admit. I didn't like his performance of Starlight and though his voice is nice in Soaked his performance to me appears a bit fake, it doesn't match the intimacy of Matt's performance.

I get the impression that Adam uses his sexuality in the physical presentation of his performances but there's nothing wrong with that and it may just be who he is. So did Freddie Mercury incidentally. So do the Scissor Sisters. So do loads of straight performers. It may not be everyone's cup of tea though. Personally I like a lot of performers who happen to be gay, but I haven't warmed to Adam Lambert. Some of that maybe the overuse of his sexuality in performances when I don't find him attractive to look at, but I would say the same for a straight performer. Subtlety is so much better imo and sexier! :D

What is pathetic though is to make negative judgements of someone just because of their sexuality which seems to be the case here. It's rife unfortunately. :(

  10. Matt's is more intimate which suits the song and his version appears to contain more genuine emotion. Adam's is indeed too polished and over the top. There's also a bit of emotive vocal in Matt's interpretation that Adam doesn't even attempt, don't know how to describe it, but the bit without words.

I would imagine if the same poll was carried out on an Adam Lambert site the opposite result would be achieved though.

Actually just adding, listening to Adam Lambert's version actually annoys me! He destroys it. It's not a fucking show tune. He seems to me to miss the point of the song entirely and just uses it to show off his vocal. I wonder what Matt thinks of Adam's version.

Mind you, saying that, if Muse had recorded it officially, we don't know how close it would have been to the raw version.

  11. for ages the resistance was my favourite album, then I realised that Absolution and OoS were superior. Now it is my least favourite.

I really like Exogenesis, MK Ultra and Undisclosed Desires

I like Uprising (but only with the riff outro)

    Unnatural Selection is OK

and I really don't like resistance, I belong to you and united states of Eurasia any more

    and I hate guiding light

Well I had all the other albums before The Resistance, loved Muse on that basis before joining the board, and I really liked the Resistance when it first came out but I didn't realise it was my favourite (I have difficulty deciding a favourite) which now I think it is, well at this time, anyway.

On joining the board I remember my favourite song at the time was Space Dementia so I'm, not coming from hearing The Resistance first and then going back to listen to their previous albums.

I have also increased my love for Uprising and USoE as time has gone on, and I've always loved IBTY and Exogenesis and Resistance and Unnatural Selection. I don't know, the whole album just works on a lot of levels for me.:)

I even don't mind Guiding Light though I would never list it as a favourite. As part of the journey through diversity the album offers, I think it works, and I like the lyrics, though I have to admit I do still sometimes wind up the window in the car when it comes on.:chuckle: That's my own stigma/embarrassment about the old cheesy glam rock thing though, it still touches me and even so I wouldn't assess the whole album based on one song.

  12. You inspired me to re-read Farmer Duck! Still in my bookshelf from when my children were small! I'm such a hoarder! I never realised before but it's almost a Marxist revolution reinterpreted for two year olds! That's no comment on Matt's intelligence btw. Better put it back before my family think I've gone bonkers!

Actually, I've mentioned before but the book I would like to recommend to Matt is The Crysalids by John Wyndham. It is one that I read at school and found quite inspirational, though I read a bit of it recently and found it a bit basic. It's just the theme I like though. :)

  13. Guiding Light is about a person cheating on their partner.

    - her pure heart stumbled into him & now crumbles in his hands

    - she left him so he can't hurt her anymore

    - he is loved by numbers of groupies

    - it's making him numb so he's losing life's wonders

    - he & his girlfriend touch like strangers detached because

they both know he's been screwing around

    - he hopes for the best but has no guiding light

to stop himself acting this way

I really don't think Guiding Light is about cheating. I think it's simply about a disintegrating relationship. I think "Loved by numbers" for instance means when it feels like it's just a routine rather than genuine feeling, nothing to do with groupies. I also think your post is inappropriate and weird, sorry. It was probably you who attempted a similar thing on Muselive in a more direct fashion.:stunned:

  14. I can see where they're coming from but humour is difficult to convey and tbh Matt didn't exactly look like he was ready to laugh when they performed it at the O2. It's quite confusing rather than humourous, but I do think it has some really touching lyrics and I don't dislike it. I think I'm intrigued by it because it is puzzling.
