  1. I'd anticipate Matt's album. I think he'd be interested in doing something outside of the constraints of having to make songs for a band setup. I think he'd love to make a full dance or electronica album and that could be fun. Chris and Dom, meh, we'll see. Don't see Dom as much of an artist, he tends to bring technical reliability and a relaxed personality to the band more than that.

  2. I just find it frustrating when some sort of 'objective' plateau is reached in music or other media and people call it good because of that, but when I experience it I'm like, "okay, I get how this is interesting, but not how it's enjoyable."

     

    I mean this was a lot of peoples reaction to Drones the song and it's an explanation I found very acceptable (it was a damn sight better than people going wtf is this shit have muse converted I hate change), but it's frustrating when it's my reaction to stuff people hold in such high acclaim, like most of The Dark Side Of The Moon for example.

  3. I would like to meet Matt, Dom and Chris and ask to them : which songs do you consider as the worst you have made? I think we would be surprised!

     

    Matt answered this question once and said he thought Execution Commentary was his worst song. I think he was just answering random twitter questions or something.

     

    Your English sounds fine by the way, there's just a couple of grammar mistakes, doesn't sound too weird.

    And there's another part of me that thinks, "Can I really call myself a Muse fan and member of the Muse board for seven years if I can't do this?"

  5. Dear god imagine my surprise this evening when listening to BBC Radio 2 at work and amidst a flurry of standard contemporary tracks old and new I suddenly hear the line "Kiiiiiiiilllled Byyyyyyy Droooooooooooones".

     

    Yes I am not joking, the track Drones was actually played on the radio, and Radio 2 at that. It wasn't even during a special Muse feature or anything like that. Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Dido, The Eagles then bam, the sound of a choir of Matts fills the restaurant kitchen. I can only assume the DJ saw Muse had a new album and played the title track without screening it himself beforehand, but even that is unlikely.

     

    Anyway, just thought i'd share that with you all :LOL:

     

    That's pretty cool and weird! You should stick that in the "Where have you heard Muse?" thread over in Muse in the Media. :)

  6. Nice, positive thread idea.

     

    Showbiz: Raw, angsty, teenage emotions are appropriately embraced. It's loud. Matt's voice, while annoyingly nasal at this stage, is given loads of room for expression, and songs like Unintended showcase Muse's potential range. As a debut, it shows plenty of promise.

     

    Origin of Symmetry: Fuzzy in every positive sense of the word. There's no stance with OoS. It hints at political and apocalyptic themes in places but there's nothing explicit, nothing to tie down the songs with a message. The songs are fueled with a raw desire to be as big, loud and dramatic as possible, but there's enough virtuoso talent behind them to convey images and meaning. The boys wanted to do both, and simply didn't care about tying them together somehow.

     

    Absolution: For the most part it again balances an awareness of themes and images with a desire to create big, good songs. At the same time there's an indication of maturity, things are a bit more reined in and deliberate, and some of the ideas are made more concrete, but rarely does that take away from the passion of the songs.

     

    Black Holes And Revelations: Muse at their most successfully eccentric. Pop hit, Funky R&B, electro blitz, lullaby, latin groove, battle anthem - it's all there, and it's a massive showcase for their skills.

     

    The Resistance: The symphony. There's other great songs, but the symphony delivered.

     

    The 2nd Law: With the symphony out of the way, The 2nd Law feels transitional. It's a bit like a collection of lots of little projects and ideas that Muse had for going forward that they ran with. They continue to try to spread out and experiment more, tapping into more genres and trying on new masks. It's not always successful, but unsuccessful projects can be learned from.

     

    Drones: It feels natural for Muse to make a concept album, even if concepts haven't always been their strong suit. They've clearly realized a bit of consistency is needed in their work and it shows they're making an effort to maintain a consistent sound and message. They pay attention to the strengths of their roots and try to reinvent them.

  7. to be fair, kid A is weird as fucking hell. Never liked that one. Give me OK Comp any day of the week. Hell, I even prefer Hail to the Thief

     

    Nothing wrong with disliking it, personally I think it's excellent, but you wouldn't go around saying any of it wasn't songs or 'real music' would you? Sadly those people evidently existed in their droves.

    Edit: oh, erm, 'why'. The contradiction in the lyrics is great, it comes across as personal, and it's very delicately delivered for a Muse song. Hoodoo is so underrated.
